In any bag I take out of the house I keep painkillers, Imodium and a tampon or two as standard. That way I never get caught without!

Also, at home I keep a spare of any important toiletries or make-up that I’d struggle to go without. That way, if I realise I’m out of concealer I can just open the spare straight away, and order my next spare.

Whilst we’re discussing stress levels, in the time it’s taken me to write this I’ve had to close two pop-up messages about newsletters, etc. I love this site but there are too many pop-ups, which do NOT make me happier!!

Kids know how to use a computer to chat on Facebook and illegally download the latest music. How useful is that going to be when they get a job? ICT at school is about giving the students skills that they will be able to use in their future, whichever job they go into.

And, joereynolds, this is supposed to be a forum for a mature exchange of thoughts. You may not rate a subject very highly but making insulting comments about it is really unnecessary.

ICT at GCSE and A Level does feature networks, hardware, etc. But if our job is to give students skills they will need in the future, we have to focus on the skills most widely used in all job sectors, not just train them with the skills they would need to become IT technicians, so further down the school we do focus on spreadsheets, word processing, etc - although it's not all Office by any stretch of the imagination. And anyone who says that use of spreadsheets is 'secretarial' has obviously not delved into their functionality very deeply at all.

One of the subjects that I would keep is ICT. It is estimated that 77% of the workforce now use IT in their job - and this figure is expected to grow. We MUST educate our students in this field, particularly if we wish to compete with other technologically advanced nations such as Japan and China.

Some of your ideas are fine but I find the idea of students choosing their teachers ridiculous. Students often prefer the 'fun' teachers who let them mess around at the expense of actually getting work done. Productivity would fall massively if students only opted for lessons with these teachers. Additionally, it HAS to be the teacher planning and teaching the lessons who marks the student work - otherwise how can they see where misconceptions are, identify students who are excelling or struggling, etc? Handing over marking to other people will not solve anything.

I think in some circumstances you are right but this doesn't always apply. When I posted it I was thinking about the fact that I am single and although I am being proactive about going on dates, etc I still haven't met anyone - so I haven't got the love life I want!
