it's probably natural for us to be physically attracted to someone from the way he/she would be able to reproduce.

ie.
guys - look for girls physical attributes. (for good genes) (boobs, waistline, beautiful face, skin condition...)
gals - look for guys physical and financial attributes. (for good genes and ability to care for the children respectively) (wash board abs, broad shoulder, nice BO, broad chin, deep voice, deep pocket, intellect...)

So this thus makes the relationship sexual in most situation...

However, love still exist even without sex in many relationships. As we get older, we tend to become more emotionally than physically attracted to our partners. It was found that older couples who remained attached to one another for nearly 20 over years find new purpose in their relationships through challenges they face together... or remain close through constant recollection of past "happy" moments... ultimately... no one wants to live alone.

In conclusion, sex probably does play a part at the start of a good relationship but... Should sex be the main reason for a relationship, it would definitely last as long as our physical appearance would remain with us.
