So many close games!
And, uhhh, "7 out of 16 picks" is not "just one pick above 50%", its one below... And its their not there in "there crazy fast tempo".
GO DAWGS!

Re: Mariners Spring Training Roster Battles

But the range we gain if it all works out... figgins is a huge upgrade over lopez at second, its at least worth a try.

Re: Three Points that Make the Mariners Contenders in 2010

Saying the A's got better because of Sheets is like saying the Ms improved by resigning Bedard. A modest improvement with high upside but not one that separates good teams from great.
The AL West should be average this year. But like anthony said, its baseball and its only the preseason...
Lookin forward to this season!

Re: Jake Locker Returning to UW!

Yessir! I seriously think that Locker would be the favorite for the Heisman next year. And another possibility... from no bowl to Rose Bowl? I dont think thats too far out there either. Regardless, Locker's return makes next years Husky team dangerous. This seasons barely over and Im already lookin forward to next year

Re: Weekly Grades: In Pondexter We Trust

He has to show me he can run against a team that is not playing the pass. Forsett gained a lot of his yards on draw plays and the like. If he can keep it up against teams that are playing the run then he will deserve an A. An A- is still good though.

Re: Boys Cross Country Preview 2009: 3A

You're totally right. Also, I was impressed by the collection of local sports voices in the trailer. I'm just hoping that the documentary can do more than just exacerbate our depression. His BABIP is no fluke: Washburn has always been a flyball pitcher and doesn't get a lot of strikeouts like Verlander and Halladay. There's no doubt that Safeco field and the M's outstanding outfield defense also play major roles in Washburns low BABIP.
His FIP is a solid 3.88. His Strikeout-Walk ratio is way up from last year. Washburn is having a great year, and the Mariners would be well served to hold onto him.

Re: http://www.seatownsports.net/2009/06/campaign-for-ichiros-entry-into-home.html

I am definately in agreement, and I don't see how an Ichiro fan would not want to see him in the Home Run derby. Locker isn't going to play baseball for the Angels unless the NFL doesn't work out. Kevin's post says, "The Angels merely hold his signing rights for six years and if he for some reason wants to play baseball, he will end up playing within the Angels organization." For now, Locker will be playing football and only football. He won't be trying to do both. But if he eventually decides to go for baseball, the Angels will have rights to him.

Re: Navigating The Mariners- Game Recap 6/1/09

Yes, you're right. It would be nice for the Mariners to do something at the trade deadline. But that something will be to sell, not buy. Of course, if the Ms have a miracalous turnaround, it won't make sense for them to sell. But if they continue on their current course and remain under .500, Jack and the organization will realize that its time to rebuild and not repeat the mistakes of the Bavasi Era and continue to try to win now. Washburn, Berdard, Ichiro, Beltre, Branyan... expect these names to be on the table come the trade deadline.

Re: Weekly Grades: Recapping the Seahawks Draft

Mays could be a good pick, but would likely go top 5. I guess its a question of how bad the Broncos really will suck. But Tebow, while a great college player, is not a pro quarterback. He should find a role somewhere with his athleticism but he definately won't be a first-rounder.
I heard the Hawks signed Lucas, I liked him while he was in Seattle and its good to see him back.
But here's a good question: could Josh Wilson move to safety? He seems like the playmaker and ball-hawk type, a kind of poor man's Ed Reed. I think given time he could make the switch. Theres more of a need for him at saftey than CB. Greene is not the answer at safety. There's no way he could be an immediate starter, and at best it will take him a couple of years to contribute.

Re: Live Blog: Seahawks NFL Draft 2009

Wow, what a draft. We seriously lucked out when we got Curry. The Denver trade for the first-round pick was a steal as well.
The only question I have is about Unger. He will be good to boost the Hawks' o-line depth, but I don't know it was worth trading away the 3rd and 4th rounders to get him. Hopefully Ruskell can find some nice talent in the later rounds to make up for this...

Re: Grinds My Gears

You don' t have to always be so defensive of the Sounders. We all live in Seattle, most of us (David and I included) want to see them succeed and are fans. We're not saying that they are terrible, their start was a fluke, they'll never do well in their innaugural season, or anything like that. We just want to see them win games.
Look, I admire your loyalty to the Sounders. But even good teams deserve criticism for losing, in any circumstance. If the Mariners lost 10 games straight (less then the equivalent to 2 MLS games) or even 5, they probably would have made the prestigious Grinds My Gears column.

Re: Top 10 Seahawks of All-Time?

Heres mine:
1. Kenny Easley
9. Jim Zorn
10. Mike Holmgren

Re: Seattle Seahawks 2009 NFL Draft Preview

Thanks for the comment. One thing to consider though is that the Hawks have already tagged Sean Lockear as the replacement for Walter Jones and gave him a big contract. While I don't think he is the answer and still believe the Hawks should draft a lineman, they don't necessarily "need" one.
The Seahawks have a lot of "needs" but no huge holes, which gives them a lot of flexibility when they draft. Ideally, this will allow them to select the "best possible player" and not draft for needs... of course there are some positions that they have NO needs.... but if a lineman is the best possibility, then by all means take him (which should be the case in the first round, unless Curry is somehow around).

Re: Examining The Mariners Hot Start: Will It Last?

I don't think the Mariners are getting lucky, its obviously more than that. But who really thinks the Mariners are going to keep it up, or even come close. They may not finish last, but I don't expect them to make the playoffs.
It partly depends on the performances of Washburn, Silva and Rowland-Smith when they come back. If they can continue their solid pitching, the Ms will be good. But I don't think they will be able to (especially Silva).
Its good to hope and we definately have a reason to, and I often find myself thinking "what if" but I really don't think the Ms will continue their torrid start.

Re: Weekly Grades: How Good are the Mariners?

OK, look, I'm not grading the Sounders season as a whole. So far, the season has been a success, and if I was grading their whole season I would give it an A, no question. But how can portray a loss as anything but a dissapointment? They played well, but in the end, they lost the game. Giving them a D was generous.

And Keller did not make a smart play. He left the box, and as a veteran goalie he should know where he is at all times. And he should know he is much more capable of stopping the ball when he is in the box. Don't leave it. Even he recognized he messed up.
