I agree with your assessments. And I like what Tony C. said. I also find it very enlightening and stimulating to think about who has the right religion. And every one thinks their beliefs are correct.
But Jesus said something interesting. He said He is the way, the life and the Truth. No man comes to the Father except through HIm, (his death on the cross to pay for our sins, which no other religion offers.) C.S. Lewis, (author of the Chronicles of Narnia) once an atheist, said that by those words, one can come to only one of 3 conclusions about the man Jesus. That He is either a liar, a lunatic or Lord (which He claims).
Yes, there are many hypocrites professing Jesus......but who is to say they are really Christian? Putting a turd in the cookie jar does not make it a cookie. As soon as one opens the jar, they will know by the smell there is something wrong in there and many will avoid putting their hand in there to find out. Many close the lid and go find another cookie jar.
It comes down to personal relationship between a person and God (through Jesus' death on the cross and the leading of the Holy Spirit). For anyone to base their salvation on anyone else's life becomes slavation. God made only one Adam and one Eve, one Noah, one Moses, one crossing of the Red Sea, the walls of Jericho only fell once, one David, one Mary and only one Jesus. And He made only one you! To follow what someone else is doing (19 kids or homeschooling or living on a mountaintop eating only nuts and berries) just because they say it is what God wants, does not mean it is what God wants of you. I cannot tell you what God wants, apart from basic morals. The rest is between you and Him to duke it out. If He wins, you win!

Gothard has very narrow views on what he thinks beauty is- young, not overweight, long blonde hair with soft curls. It is known he had a "type" and that he would invite that type to be his personal secretaries, even if they did not have any skills in that area. Many young women who did not fit that image, no matter how well they were qualified, were overlooked or put in lesser jobs. Given that any man has a type he is attracted to, Gothard's problem was that he foisted his very narrow beliefs on others as the only way interpretation of scripture and the only way God would bless, not allowing for individuality in personality, looks and life choices.

Recovering Grace and the people behind it have been working very hard to get the board to look into what Gothard has done to these young woman (34 have come forward) The comments written by those who were educated under Gothard teachings are also telling. What ultimately happens only time will tell. There are also many articles about the misinterpretation of scripture and the legalism promoted by Gothard.

I thought that verse meant that God GIVES you the desires of your heart, meaning He put them there in the first place...the desires you have are the ones God already gave you. I could be wrong.
And for Jinger, the will of God is already written in her life, no guessing, no excitement, no mystery, continue to babysit/raise/teach her younger sibs, endless loads of laundry, graduate from homeschool, no college, learn a Gothard approved career for women (mother, wife, midwife, or one of Gothard's hand-picked secretaries) perhaps a nurse, until her father picks a husband for her. For her sake, I hope I am wrong.

It is nice to have faith but God gave us brains to go along with that faith. No where does it say to never see doctor. Paul who wrote much of the New Testament, traveled with Luke, who was a doctor, because Paul had illness. Wine was prescribed as a medicine and Luke wrote one of the gospels.

Who hasn't been treated with disrespect at some time in their life? Want to be disrespected? Become a teacher. They face more disrespect than any other group I know of on a daily basis.
Read the history of immigrants to this country (Irish, Jews, Italians, Chinese, etc.) and you will find that each group faced prejudice and wrongful treatment at the hands of other groups. That is why many changed their ethnic sounding names to something more generic. My Italian parents faced teasing at schools during WW2 because at the time, Italy was allied with the enemy. They chose to realize it was the ignorance of the individual instead of lashing out at society and demanding payback.

there are work places all over the country and world, where people are demeaned by their bosses. In fact, there are probably more places that have less than happy work environments due to less than perfect bosses. I know I have certainly worked at many places like that. Wal-Mart has had their people work off the clock for years. Where my husband used to work there is a black lady, though not boss, who runs the place and every one is scared of her. She will pull the race card and sue others on a whim and runs the place with an iron fist.

what happened is a mix of "social engineering" and "yellow journalism"
The media prints things in certain ways, uses certain words or plays up certain stories to mold your thinking and emotions. Look at the Zimmerman case and how many are now moved to "riot" by what they read or heard in the media. I think it was the Boxer Rebellion war in China where newspapers reporters started printing stories for the sole purpose of seeing if they could start a war. We are being manipulated and I certainly do not like it. Tell a lie long enough and people will believe it to be truth.

people need to be careful as to what they said 20 or more years ago or they may be "deened" from their job. A dangerous precedent was set when the Food Network fired Paula for something she said a long time ago. Other companies may use the same tactic to get rid of employees they either do not like for some reason or to keep from paying benefits or retirement.

Good- I hope the butter campaigns ends a message or a terrible precedent will have been set. How many companies will be "deening" their workers for something they did/said in their past to keep from paying benefits and retirement? The lady suing deen and her brother claims it was never about the n-word and about bad working conditions...uh, lady, who hasn't worked under those conditions? how many end up suing? You are taking advantage of Deen's millions. I bet you would get nowhere trying to sue wal-mart who is known to have their people work off the clock. (many have tried!)

we made our porch into 2 catios. We gave measurements to a local fence place who made chain link panels, that fit perfectly between floor and porch cover. Some of the panels have doors so we can go in and out...Our cats are like belly buttons. We have innies and outies. The innies can come in the house so they are in the catio with a window that has a cat door to the interior of the home. The outies are in the other catio but cannot come in the house as they have litter box or territorial problems such as fighting or spraying, so they have to stay out of the house. WE recently enlarged each catio from 8x10 to almost double. The catios have food, water, litter box and cat trees. The outies will also have a covered bed area when winter comes. The innies still hunt. One day I came home from work to find bird feathers in every room all over the house and one little very naked dead bird under the kitchen table.

unfortunately, some cats are barn cats and they are much needed as such or the rats take over. they are usually feral or semi tame, even friendly, and stay intact since they have fairly short lives...ranchers and farmers would go broke fixing them then having something happen to them. Plus they need the new influx of kittens to replace the losses. Alice Pooper, my mom' last cat before she passed away, was brought to us by a young man from a horse barn. The trainer was disposing of several of the kittens and he snuck this one out and showed up at our door at 11 pm. His mom would not let him have a cat, so of course, we said yes. She is a fat happy cat 12 years later.

We have a few cats, 12 in fact, most were rescues a few adopted and some just found along the road...in fact, we had been finding and dealing with so many cats, I prayed, "God, please let someone ELSE find all the lost kittiesl" Two days later driving down a dark road in the country a little white thing is crawling along the road...of course we stop in the middle of nowhere to rescue a 3 wk old kitten. How he got there, only God knows. 4 years later Alfie is a big BIG cat that follows me everywhere. Fetches q-tips (they are white like him) And sucks his paw.

this is only the tip of the iceberg...a few years ago the
battle you never read about and few heard about was being fought against the
USDA to prevent animal id...the USDA wanted to microchip ALL privately owned animals such as cows, horses, pigs, goats, chickens, etc and have the owners file reports about what they did with those animals such as births, deaths and
movements off property....the animal owners were also required to register with the govt even if the animal was a pet.... If animal disease was suspected, the USDA could come in and kill all animals in a 6 mile radius and the real reason
for all this govt intrusion....just so big ag (factory farms who wanted this program yet would not have to follow any
of the rules) could tell foreign buyers their meat was safe to eat. And put those who want to raise healthy meats out of business. see nonais dot org for more info. The
program has been stopped for the time being but big ag is still pushing for it!

DEEN - 1. to fire someone for having said something questionable, rude or un-PC long before working for that company. 2. Deening can also include punishing the person beyond the severity of the deed or word.

typical future article might read...Joe Doaks, age 35, was deened by Company X for using the f- word, n- word, c-word and a few others 20 years earlier while in high school. Discipline records from the school that on a certain date he used vulgar language during math class. As a result, he will lose all his perks, insurance and retirement benefits. His lawyer is appealing the decision. Mr. Doaks "deen-ies" the event.

Communist countries are known for severe punishment and then "erasing" all mention of certain individuals who have displeased those in power. And all they have to do is make an example of one individual and the rest fall in line

governments that want to control their people do not punish everyone who disobeys their laws...they pick one person as an example to go really stick it to......communist countries have done this for years...so beware, you all have been warned, your past CAN and WILL be held against you if you do not comply. Now the country can pass all the PC rules they want and very few of us will go against them...after all, look what they did to Paula Deen. You don't want to be "deened" out of a job, now do you?

Do you mean to say that someone who likes realistic art is neither artistic nor educated in art and that they are only artistic and educated in art if they like abstract? I am both an artist, art teacher and knowledgeable in art history. I do like some abstract art, work in abstract on occasion but appreciate more that to make something look like the real item certainly takes a trained eye, more time and effort than sloshing paint on a canvas. I was teaching a lesson on Picasso and showing a sample of how Picasso drew faces. One student said, " I already draw that bad. Now teach me how to really draw a face."

Picasso was born with great talent. He could really draw realistically and it showed from an early age. Yet after fame and fortune, he said only children had true art talent and he spent the rest of his years trying to draw primitively like an untrained 5 year old. Does that mean that Picasso's classmates who could only draw stick figures were the truly talented artists and that the art experts of the day made a mistake in choosing a young Picasso to attend art schools?
