It's very interesting and frankly disturbing that you chose to celebrate this man in an alumni article like this. What about this man is Christ-like? He advocates that God's children who are gay should not be accepted and are a threat to families and marriages. How is that so? Gay marriage has been legal in Iowa for almost 2 years. How has that affected anything in anyone's daily life, family or marriage? Does Jesus not want a larger tent? How better than to welcome in other committed families like gay families?

Vander Plaats is financially rewarded to advocate this intolerance. And this article celebrates the masses he is paid to stand in front of and preach his hate speech. Merely because he holds a small influence politically he should be celebrated? How in any way is this man a role model for the wonderful budding students at NWC?

This is very key. Traditional web-based ecommerce "shopping cart abandonment" applies even more so to mobile. Customers have very little tolerance for any friction upon checkout, especially for smaller transactions.

And using 3rd party payment stores like iTunes, Amazon, PayPal, etc. are great, but they eat into margins quickly

PayPal's card.io acquisition seems to be about making it even easier fo PayPal to control the CC storage for mobile by making it dead simple to enter CC payment info. A customer's tolerance for entering new payment info into a mobile device is very low. Not necessarily because of security concerns, but because their time is so short and their session with your app or service is brief and often in the moment and on the go.

BTW, what Foursquare has done with their partnership Amex is super smart because Foursquare controls that payment store with Amex and doesn't depend on a 3rd party.

At http://redstamp.com, it's a "document created." Any card (document) sent in our system whether it be digital (SMS, email, tweet, FB post) or physical (postcard). And attached to that is the sentiment: thanks, wish, invite, announce, etc. We're able to monitor these trends and see what sentiments people are corresponding, spiking during real time events like the Superbowl or on days like Valentines, Mother's Day, Father's Day, New Year's Eve. Everyday is Happy Birthday and I Love You.

Because we see the documents as being more than just a "card." They currently are all cards, but we are branching off from a card/document to attach things like location, event details (start/end time), recipients/attendees, photo albums, gifts, etc. We use document because card connotes physical only and documents are any form of correspondence you express through Red Stamp.

When someone uses Red Stamp to post on Instagram, it's different than a card, it's more of a creative expression. When they Tweet it's often to capture a moment and annotate a photo with text. Facebook, email and obviously postcards are most like a card because it's often congratulating, thanking or wishing happy birthday.

The social and real time usage of the app is what prompted us to think of what is created as more than just cards.

I agree with aiming at the top 5 android devices when developing.

I think the fragmentation of Android's OS version is an equal issue to the device fragmentation. The flagship Android devices, like the SIII and Nexus 7, run a recent enough version of Android to develop efficiently against.

When Amazon forked Android for the Fire the picked a too old version of Android in Gingerbread. Hopefully the bump that up for the Fire2. Same with the Nook.

The combination of hardware and Android version is really the key to being able to build a native or HTML5 app that provides a good enough experience. Just because a device can technically support a feature doesn't mean it's going to render it responsively enough.

Also, with a full blown version of Chrome being the default browser on Android, that opens more opportunities for reliably developing mobile web apps. But again, you need a mobile device that has the hardware to reliably render the experience in a browser.

Outstanding. I'm originally from Iowa and there are so many smart things going on in the state to encourage startups and entrepreneurs.

My dad is an educator in Iowa, and I also know some school districts are using Dwolla as a payment for their hot lunch programs.

Stripe's admin is particularly useful for managing subscriptions and recurring billing, which can be tricky. Their web hooks also make it easy to attach it to a email system like SendGrid. With minimal development, you can have a payment management and storage system set up and be PCI compliant.

Have built ecommerce systems over the past 6 years for Red Stamp, checkout is by far the most complex feature to build, but also the most crucial.

Stripe's focus on mobile friendliness is yet another great feature. The latest version of their Pay With Stripe button works flawlessly on mobile. Great experience.

This is really solid. Any thoughts on how to do it horizontally? I've been poking around and trying with the width overflowing. Can't get the shadow to appear on the left and right. Something with the gradients and background size.

My dad is a teacher so we always had Apple products in the house in the late 80's and 90's because of his educator discount.

I remember putting all my basketball cards into an AppleWorks database on our IIGS. This video (not me) takes me back to how incredibly slow getting programs up and running was. And the multiple disk drives, both 3.5 and 4.25. Wow.

Then, FileMaker Pro completely shaped how I think about data by introducing me to relational databases without even really knowing it.
