I feel like everyone else here got the cyanide laced grape kool-aid and I got stuck with a cup of shitty, watered-down purple drank.

I replied to Devindra's tweet this morning that Eisenberg isn't working for me; he's got the look and the vibe but every time he opens his mouth I hear Michael Cera (and the dialogue across the board is god-awful... hopefully a bout of Trailer-itis).

The teasers alone completely destroyed my interest in this movie, as of today it's a "drunken Watch Instantly queue addition" at best...

Not at all, unfortunately the concept of "paying for services rendered" be it through commercials or direct payment is lost on most denizens of the internet. The sense of entitlement is frustrating... (which I'm sure you can relate to as an entrepreneur/small business owner).

I would be willing to drop $10/month IF they posted new episodes on the service the day after they aired on TV and I could view at least the entire season up to that point.

Hell I would even pay $15 or $20/month if I had access to every episode of every series they had on Hulu, with or without commercials.

re: reserving seats - i feel that if the other attendees in your party are not in the building (or past the ticket counter for that matter) any "reserved" seat is fair game.

If you expect to get seats together with your entire group (whether it is just you and your date or a group of 10+), you need to enter the theater as a group, claim your seats and THEN head to the bathroom, concessions, etc... BEFORE the lights go down (which I believe in most theaters is when the previews begin...)

By entering together you now have recourse if someone tries to steal your seat while you're in the restroom or buying popcorn (since the rest of the people in the theater saw you come in to claim the seats). I've found from personal experience that if the stealer refuses to move the crowd will back your original claim to the seat and shame the stealer into moving... (well that or a fight breaks out; as the Boy Scouts say: "Be Prepared").

Frankly, I think the seat holder was out of line for displacing the rest of the crowd when they had no idea if/when the rest of their party would have arrived...

you make a great point Dave but I don't think the answer is that simple...

The primary issue is that a spoiler can only be defined by the reader/listener that receives that piece of information in the moment they access it.

For example, reading the first line from Jace's article I would argue (having watched the first 2 seasons of Mad Men) that it would only be a spoiler if you didn't know the 1960's had existed. The despite the fictional characters, the show is firmly based in this universe and not an alternate reality; yet somehow that commenter felt it had ruined their chance at enjoying the rest of the season? How can Jace be responsible for someone that didn't pay attention in civics class?

My point is that while posting a spoiler warning is a solid move to defend against commenter backlash, there is no comprehensive way to avoid spoilers without completely removing your ability to provide context for the emotional and physical reactions you had to the medium in question.

So in theory, isn't the only true way for a consumer to protect themselves from having something spoiled is to carefully choose their source(s) of information and be prepared for the randomness of life (and the internet) to ruin something for them at some point?

with over 19 MILLION units sold as of 2008 how can an anonymous poll of 5,000 gamers or a sampling of only 16,000 returned units through a 3rd party warranty firm provide any insight into the true failure rate?

Not trying to defend MS in any way - my 360 has been fine for 4 years and counting. It may sound like a jet engine when it fires up but it has been reliable. ;-)

Re: App Store/Google Voice - does the FCC really have grounds to intervene/review the App Store's approval process? It seems to me that if Apple is providing the App dev kit and distribution model for said apps they reserve the right to be as arbitrary with their approval process as they see fit.

Comparable example: You own a grocery store and also carry a "house brand" of certain products. Don't you reserve the right as the owner to determine what products are on your shelves and where they are located? If a competitors product has better brand recognition and would negatively impact sales of your "house branded" products wouldn't you consider not offering the more recognizable brand (if the negative impact outweighed the potential for profit by carrying it)?

To continue with the grocery example: when you go to a Trader Joes or Aldi (where there's usually only 1 brand available for each type of product - typically the house brand) would you complain that they don't have Cocoa Puffs(tm) or Kraft Macaroni & Cheese? No, because you've already adjusted your expectations going into that store and just buy the house brand.

In the same sense: purchasing the SDK and agreeing to the terms & conditions you know what you're getting into with Apple - so don't bitch when they block your app for seemingly "no good reason"). The entire Google-voice debacle appears to be more about tech-nerds like ourselves being outraged over Apples "Iron Curtain" business practices (which is nothing new). I'm just curious why everyone suddenly expects Apple to tear down the walls...

The reason I haven't been watching Conan is twofold:
- I haven't had cable for the last 6 months
- Everytime I catch an ep on Hulu I can't get past the monologue because it's so watered down for all the plebes.

What made Conan so great was the edgy sketches, characters and jokes that seemed to be aimed directly at my age group and sense of humor. When you watch him now you can almost see the disappointment in his eyes as he delivers the monologue.. knowing that the jokes are sub-par but some exec decided it would "play to a wider demographic" so that's what he has to spit out...

@jesse - I agree that Andy adds nothing to the show whatsoever
