I had a lot of useful input from Alexander Technique teachers when I was a drama student. But I thought, like the kind of advice acting teachers gave or recommendations from a vocal coach, At was part of the highly unsystematic process of performers finding out what gets them in the right state to do their work comfortably and to get rid of bad physical habits. I was lucky in that no AT teacher I came across ever presented it as more than that. A shame that some people are making unfounded claims.

There are writers in the schools programs. The writer participates in a meaningful way and the kids benefit from that interaction. And the writers get paid. So everybody wins and innocent bystanding authors don't get hit up. It really is a better situation all the way around.

Did the number of reported misdemeanours increase, arrests for misdemeanours, or convictions for misdemeanours increase? Because if authorities are more aggressive about spotting and intervening when misdemeanours are occurring, the number of arrests for those crimes would go up. That would have nothing to do with the base rate of misdemeanours actually taking place. And if the conviction rates were low, that would indicate the arrests -- or ticketing -- were done hastily.

Juan Cole: the linked video is terrible. It mentions the murder of the 3 boys. It does not mention Bibi using the crime as an excuse for collective punishment in the West Bank, a disgraceful deception of the families and the world community. He knew the youths were dead and the authorities had suspects. Find another summary of the events.

From your foreign correspondent days: have you ever known cases of toughs helping out S. American ranchers or members of sectarian militias giving up the gun? We've seen Ukrainian soldiers refuse to fire on Russo-Ukrainian protesters and you remember when the East German soldiers couldn't pull the trigger. My basic anthropology tells me that it is not liberal but fairly conservative, traditional groups (Protestant or Sunni) that pull back people who have dedicated themselves to the gun. Is there any chance that traditional communities could pull members back from apocalyptic violence?
