It sure did end with that. Come to think of it, Rowling used that fight in the books as another example of Ginny being a powerful-type witch.

Of course, I can understand the conundrum the producers had: In order to keep that PG13 rating, they probably did have a limit to how much violence and wanton destruction they could show. They probably used it all up with the whole 'attack on The Burrow' scene. A scene they decided to write in to the movie because, well, ...
Fuck if I know...

Oh, you know what just occurred to me? Riff mentions the Half Blood Prince having no significance, which, amusingly makes him equally as significant as the titular Goblet of Fire.

It did seem like they were just ticking off a (very small) checklist of things that they had to show in order to push the plot along, doesn't it?

Ayep, that was Hagrid's. The entire attack on Hogwarts thing was, in retrospect, painfully downplayed. That was one of the coolest scenes in the book.

Also, Dumbledore died. not significant?

The actual blade of the knife can't be more than 4 inches, or the entire shebang? if it's just the blade, that's pretty nice. Even If I don't think I'd ever pull a knife on someone, there is a bit of a psychological advantage, in that I'm a bit more confident just carrying the thing.
