I know for a fact I can pull up to Major's right now and park within 20 feet of the building.

There is not one single close parking spot at all at this location. None. major's at least has a chance.

Consider it buyer's remorse. This is a problem which will forever impact this location. You can be cute and say they should've known better, or get real and realize that there is a problem that extends beyond this current tenent.

They took a shot. Sometimes reality is a little more harsh then the vision.

I do not fault anyone here. They did know what they were working with when they opened. I do not begrudge them for asking and trying to fix an issue they have.

I also agree that if this was a grand slam concept, or if their food was the most amazing food ever served or something, this might not be as big of an issue. But its not, and landing a tenant like that, one which can override the short comings of this location, would be like winning the lottery.

So, in an effort to work with what we have, I think it would be smart for the city to offer a little concession in the parking arena to help out.

All this comes after they try to lease parking from the church next door.

Salem condos are often marketed towards people who want a reasonible commute to Boston.

We can come up with something. Double sided garage access. One from Canal St, one from the Jefferson side. Have pick up and drop offs take place at the old entrance.

Great point. I am recalling leaving some garages in Boston after the bars close, and it can take forever.

We need a great debit and credit card processing system to make sure people can fly through checking out.

I 100% agree. There should be better uses for any water front property, even if it's the North River.

The train station should be moved back to the top of Riley Plaza. The city should aquire the air rights above the train tracks, and a structure should be built that spans from Canal over to Jefferson. This is wasted space that will go unused forever unless something creative like a parking garage for the train is needed.

Many great things can be done with steel construction these days.

I am not one who complains about parking in Salem, and I generally walk all around downtown, but this walk is too far.

Especially if you have any intentions of hitting up multiple spots in your night out. To walk here, and then walk to even the next closest possible bar or restaurant, is too long of a walk.

Next the city needs to address the parking all along Bridge St headed towards Boston St. That all should be paved, marked and metered. I am in favor of getting another meter booth like they have on Church St, just not that particular brand of machine. People should be able to pay to park all day.

The meter machines we have in sSlem are terrible.

Parking for the courts is insane. If you're not from Salem, and don't know your way around, you can't really park.

So, if this garage helps with that, and can handle the train volume, that would be a win to me.

They can cut out the ramp, but I suggest they at least prep it to have a ramp, so that one can be added in the future. That's a feature we are going to want in the long run.

Other than that, when can we get started?
