fab job on your avatar Maria! =) for my hair, i ended up making my own so that's I'd have full tights BUT my avatar is also "quirky" and having crazy Raggedy Ann hair fits my online look (i'd secretly love to have out of control hair like that irl) =)

hack13 - your offering seems very transparent (very good thing) and for $3 a month, I wouldn't expect SL performance (lol, yours is probably better!) =)

I don't think you need to answer every criticism or question - it's $3 a month and that's a generous and wonderful way for people to get their toes wet!

Just another awesome option out there and people can try it easily and in a most affordable manner! (free choice!)

i dunno, but even big companies like Vibram stated that their silly five toed shoes were healthier - now they are in a class action suit because that is not true - they were betting that is was and lost

when a movie states "Based on a true story", that has no legal meaning and it does not need to have any single bit of its story be true, it simply adds to the immersion of the movie

next month look for the "True Story of Ener Hax Living on the Moon and Her Daily Struggle Against Eating Too Much Cheese Because the Moon is Made of Cheese", based on a true story

hmm, that's a mouthful of a title (doh) and the only part actually true is the bit about being made of cheese (100% cheesy!) =)

I agree that access should be free - it has powered many new services and offerings. But I also see the other side with real costs to create the infrastructure. And then I see a third side - VWs take a lot of bandwidth, so that isn't fair either.

no easy answer but certainly the web will change and the liitel guy will get the old and slow stuff =(

Browser-based without a viewer and the ability to allow non-account people to view your work - no sign up required (but should be a switch that on and off or by group).

I liked Kitely very much and it ran incredibly smoothly - still wish our project was there, but things change and OpenSim was an awesome experience and Kitely provided a great and affordable service.

it's a shame that the first video i see from their twitter account about this neat product is a guy with a shotgun

i understand first person shooters are popular (and i've played them) but couldn't they have done a walking or running simulation through fantasy scenery (or real) for fitness?

our gun culture is so pervasive =(

i'll believe that things like VR and mainstream VW are coming when i see a significant shift on the web away from text. for example, on this blog (or mine when i was writing daily), how many of these articles are posted as videos done from topics discussed inworld?

how about any other place? daily stories done as vw videos? it's still novel and highly niche . . .

i dunno, the web is still mostly written text, i don't see people wearing VR headsets anytime soon (like 5 to 10 years) and i don't see facebook still being "the" thing in 10 years - the demographic continues to shift but my crystal ball can certainly be way wrong (i'm not worth zillions like Suckerberg)

my opinion can be seen in detail on myspace . . . =D

big events in virtual worlds like OpenSim? i don't see it happening after having been in all the hype in 2006 with SL (and i work for a 4 billion euro spanish tech company that pretty much owns travel and hospitality crm platforms with a Munich data centre that does 1/3 the daily transactions that Google does)

still way too clunky and way too many man-hours involved for this to be mainstream, even with the promise of huge dollars saved for events

my 2 cents . . .

how does net neutrality impact all of this? the US Gov is starting to shift away from supporting net neutrality, and with the lobbyist from companies like AT&T, i think (imo) that it's inevitable that "fast lanes" get setup and the rest of us will be on the public leftovers with congestion

maybe i'm pessimistic (yes, i am - i'm from quebec) but this doesn't seem like a radical opinon in "corporations are people my friend" USA

call me cynical, but nothing seems compelling enough yet to have VWs become part of the mainstream like the interwebz are

even the interwebz are still predominantly text-based - more like online shareable books than movies

online text - fast to share and easily accessible while being familiar for hundreds of years =)

this may help us redefine what we think is real. we "think" that what we see and hear is real, but is it?

when i look at a field of clover in bloom, i see white flowers. A bee sees deep blue flowers because she can see into the UV part of the electromagnetic spectrum

and if i'm aboriginal Australian, i might think all of this is a dream, a concept that Nobel laureate physics scientist do not dismiss

i'm going to toss in my two cents, for whatever they may be worth (and because i am a big blabber mouth) =D

all your suggestions are excellent but most take a tremendous amount of time or resources. hiring Pathfinder would be expensive, giving away stuff is time consuming, and holding parties and conferences take a great deal of planning

in my opinion and experience, if a person does one or two of these events, they expect a lot of recognition and lasting recognition

it seems, from my experience and from social media experts like Technorati and Guy Kawasaki, that a sustained presence is a good way to go (reading Guy K's books is invaluable - he turned Apple around after all)

from my experience, being genuine in your conversation and engaging with everyone over a long time (like years), not just the Pathfinders out there, will lead to an online reputation

yes, i have spoken a lot with Pathfinder directly (and even went to Linden Lab when he was there and had lunch with two managers) and participated in his blogs and in Reaction Grid, but i also chat with anyone that comments on my blog or to my Twitter (or email)

for example, Penelope (i have no idea who she is) and her one comment is just as important as Pathfinder

and smart use of tools (such as google alerts and many more) plus things to do (like gravatar) to multiply your efforts helps

being genuine, being constant (like my 45 months of 1.4 posts per day and 15K images plus being deep into VWs whether 19 SL sims or a physical server), and participating in conversations (not talking to people, but talking with people), will yield results that are measurable (google analytics, Alexa, followers, and the ego - the ever so important and overly pushy ego)

its funny but my avatar LinkedIn account of Ener Hax gets more connection requests than my "real me" account! in fact, Ener last week turned down an in-person speaking gig at a Ball State University conference! =)

being genuine doesn't mean your identity as in who you really are, but it does mean being real when dealing with others and really listening

being silly helps too, but that's a genuine trait i have - as an avatar and real person =)

just my two cents and the only important contribution i have is to say to read Guy's books! =D
