But unless you're suggesting that we nationalize the
oil companies I don't see them being coerced into something they don't
want. AGIA forbids Alaska even negotiating with anyone other than
TransCanda, if we do we are liable for treble damages awarded to
TransCanada. It was a lousy deal in the beginning. There was no
competition and that was Palin's doing with the way she set up the bid
procedure. Don't you find it odd, even alarming that only TransCanada
submitted a qualifying bid? I mean think about that for a minute, no
other company in the entire world was able/willing to submit a
qualifying bid. Why did only one company meet the qualifications of
AGIA?

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

That is Democrat Les Gara. But I'm not a Democrat so it makes no
difference to me. The fact that liberal democrats are aligning
themselves with Palin should tell you everything you need to know
about her. First and foremost, she's not a fiscal conservative and
she is bad for business.

Gara along with other Democrats didn't like the deal that Governor
Frank Murkowski negotiated behind closed doors. There was good reason
for them not to like the agreement. Instead of continuing to
negotiate that deal when Palin took office and had public sentiment
and the corruption scandal looming, Palin decided to throw the baby
out with the bath water. Draw up her own plan, and refused to even
sit down with lease holders to discuss the proposals. Again and again
the leaseholders tried to talk to Palin before she made the fatal
error of doing things her way. Even TransCanada says they can't and
won't move forward with Exxon Mobil signed on.
https://secure.globeadvisor...

"TransCanada Corp. has won support from Alaska to build a $26-billion
natural gas pipeline, but ground won't be broken until Exxon Mobil
Corp. signs on, says TransCanada chief executive officer Hal Kvisle."

So now in addition to fighting environmentalist opposed to the
project, Native opposition in Canada and competing projects in the
lower 48 and Canada, we're going to be tied up in court with the
leaseholders trying to protect their investments and right to
negotiate with the state of Alaska. The only way the gas line gets
built is with the Lease holders participation. It is that simple fact
that Palin and her court of fools just don't get. That's your energy
expert.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

I've spoke out from time to time when I think people are totally out of line in the criticism of Palin as I've mentioned before. I posted my general opinion that out of state people posting at ADN should just STFU and mind their own business. This is our state and our governor.

The problem is that Palin is the face of Alaska. So when she and her family act like hillbillies then we get painted with that same broad brush. Yes, I take exception to outsiders characterizing all Alaskans by Palin. But we did elect her and her popularity up until recently said a lot about Alaskans and not in a positive way.

Yes I was/am VERY angry about the burning of her Church. Even though I'm not religious, I still consider peoples places of worship sacrosanct. When they find the people involved they should be charged with a hate crime and placed in the deepest, darkest hole we can find for them.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

http://www.realclearpolitic...
By Thomas Sowell
"Whether Governor Palin runs for national office again is something that only time will tell. As a career classroom teacher, I can see how smart she is -- and quite frankly, I think the people who don't see it are the stupid ones, wrapped in the fuzzy mummy-gauze of their own worn-out partisan dogma. So she doesn't speak the King's English -- big whoop! There is a powerful clarity of consciousness in her eyes. She uses language with the jumps, breaks and rippling momentum of a be-bop saxophonist"

She can "see how smart she is"? "A powerful clarity of consciousness in her eyes"? That's what is supposed to sway me from my opinion about Palin's intelligence? I'm supposed to ignore the things she says, does and believes in and stare deeply into her eyes? Uh, no.

I'm sorry but I think that both Paglia and Sowell have fallen for the silly populist bullshit that once entranced virtually everyone in Alaska and many others to this day. But with each passing day, she keeps saying and doing stupid things which are making people take a second look with their brains fully engaged.

Now she is playing political games with the appointment of a Democrat State Senator as a replacement for Kim Elton who to a position with the Obama Administration. http://www.adn.com/news/gov...

She has nominated an Attorney General that has outraged the Alasaka Native Community. http://community.adn.com/ad...

With each passing day her negative polling numbers are climbing. http://community.adn.com/ad...

I'm sorry, but on top of the continuing scandals and ethics complaints, I hardly think this adds up to Palin not being stupid.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

Palin doesn't do anything "adroitly". She is the proverbial bull in the china shop leaving nothing but chaos and destruction in her wake.

We are all for the gas pipeline (or should be) but it won't be built by TransCanada even with the 500 Million Alaskan dollars Palin gave them.

The pipeline that will be built is the one that the companies that own the rights to the gas are building. I've lived in Fairbanks, North Pole, Wasilla but mostly in Anchorage. I've traveled all over the state by road, boat and plane. I used to be a staunch Republican working on various campaigns. I left when the social conservatives took over the party and started trying to force their narrow minded ideology on everyone. I don't like the feds involved in "managing" our natural resources or fish and game. I'm for developing our oil and gas resources, timber and mineral deposits, including ANWR in a safe and responsible manner. I'm for small government that is responsive to the needs of our citizens. I think we have a shared obligation to assist those that need help. That includes the disabled, elederly, unemployed or underemployed, and families in crisis. I don't want a nanny state, I want our state to asist those that need it to become self sufficient if possible and as quickly as possible. We need major welfare reform, not only in our state but across the country. There is too much waste and bureaucracy.

I supported Halcro for Governor and would probably vote for him again if he chose to run. I could also support Ralph Samuels if he chose to run.

I watched the debates on TV and saw Palin speak a few times. I was never impressed with her grasp of the issues, her knowledge, or her vision. She always seemed superficial to me, and still does. I was amazed that anyone like her would actually be elected to a state wide position. I think she just came at a time that was a perfect storm of sorts. I don't 'hate' her. If I saw her stranded along side of the road, I would stop to help. When people were being critical of her when she was pregnant, and when she had Trig, I was one of the first to come out in her defense saying her pregnancy or giving birth had nothing to do with her job as governor. The situation with Bristol was a little different because of Palin's stance on sex education. But even then, I didn't think it was something that should have been an issue. I think Lisa Murkowski is a fine Senator, although I don't always agree with her, I respect her knowledge. I campaigned for Arliss Sturgulewski back in the day when she was running for Governor. Palin can't hold a candle to either one of those women. So no, I'm not intimidated by strong, intelligent women. I was raised by one, and have raised my girls to be the same.

I don't like Palin's social views. I really think she is stupid and arrogant which is a dangerous combination. See George W. Bush as an example.

The reason I mention my Alaska credentials is because so many people have only been recently exposed to Palin, don't live in Alaska, never been to Alaska and have no clue about what life is like for us. Being from Alaska I have respect for your opinion even when I don't agree with them. It's those out of state loons from SarahPack and TeamSarah that really get my goat. That's the reason why I post to the ADN Political blog, because at times it gets over run by her lower 48 groupies. I don't care what outsiders think about our state or Palin. She's OUR governor not theirs.

You still can't get past the idea that anyone who disagrees with Palin and thinks she's an intellectual lightweight (better than stupid?) is a hater. Yes, I'm a harsh critic. There isn't much of anything that she says or does that I agree with. But you know what, I felt the same way about Frank Murkowski. If I wrote the same things about him, that I write about Palin, would you still call me a hater?

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

this is in response to http://politicalwire.com/ar... by 36763

Personal? I suppose in a way it is, as she is MY governor. What she is doing as governor affects my family and I personally. How is what she is doing affecting you? What Internet rumor have I repeated as fact?

AGIA was, is and always will be a complete and utter failure. That is why the Alaska legislature is looking at it to see if it can be modified. AGIA is the albatross hanging from Palins neck. Alaskans are beginning to see that her 500 Million dollar give away is not going to get a pipeline built. In fact it may be standing in the way of an actual pipeline being built.

Palin gave away $1200 to every qualifying man, woman and child in the state of Alaska. Does that sound like a fiscal conservative to you? Really? That's an accomplishment you are proud of? What should have been done, and what was suggested at the time by many was to lower energy costs to Alaskans by purchasing discounts for heating oil, gas and electricity across the state. The reason being that a third of that $1200 gets paid to the IRS as income tax. That would have avoided the crisis in the Y-K delta region of the state. But she is more interested in being popular than doing what's right. It's always about Sarah.

What has that co-op accomplished? It's just another commission that makes it appear that something is going on when it really isn't.

She cut 268 million in capital projects around the state. Projects that would have put Alaskans to work in the private sector. At the same time she increased the operating budget that just grew the government. Again, does that sound like a fiscal conservative to you? She did the same thing in 2008. Now she is saying she won't accept some of the stimulus money because she thinks it will grow the size of government, but she will accept the capital projects portion because it puts people to work in the private sector. Why has she changed her approach? To curry favor for her new found lower 48 groupies and to further her national ambitions. Again, it's all about Sarah.

She had nothing to do with bringing the end of corruption in the state. That was and continues to be a federal investigation and prosecution. She has created an adversarial relationship with the oil and gas industry. She had an opportunity when she was first elected to negotiate a pretty good deal with the gas leaseholders to build a pipeline because of the growing corruption scandal. Instead, she chose litigation, and refused to even sit down with them and talk about how we could move forward with common interests. There haven't been any links to any of the leaseholders involvement in the scandal. VECO an oil field services company were the criminals that are now doing time.

Yes Palin likes to take credit for every piece of legislation that was passed. The ethics law she is so proud of is the one she is being held to task for. Including using private email accounts for official state business in an attempt to get around requests under the Freedom Of Information act. She was found guilty of abusing her office by a bi-partisan independent investigator, then refused to release her testimony to the Personnel Board even though she campaigned on open and transparent government. She appointed high school buddies to boards and commissions that lacked any qualifications for those positions. Most notably the Creamery Board that she fired and replaced with her cronies, then use out of state auctioneer to dispose of the assets that went to her supporters.

That "competitive process to construct a gas pipeline" is called AGIA and it failed to create any competition. There was only one proposal that qualified under her terms, and it's highly unlikely that TransCanada even with 500 Million dollars of Alaskans money will get any where near building a pipeline, and in fact prohibits the state from negotiating with other entities and is liable for treble damages if we do. Yeah that's real smart. No wonder you consider an "energy expert".

You do realize that Wasilla is barely a wide spot on the road right? She took over a debt free city and put them 20 Million in debt. Raised sale taxes. That is what you call conservative and business friendly? She had to hire a manager to do what previous mayors had done as part of their duties because she had no interest in the actual governing. She just liked the attention. Again, it's all about Sarah.

Other than hold impressive sounding titles, can you tell us anything that was accomplished during her term with Alaska Conservation Commission or Alaska Conference of Mayors?

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

Is the reply link missing from some posts for others or is it just me?

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

So because Pagiia agrees with you on this one topic that makes her opinion gold? Do you agree with everything that she thinks and believe or is this the only thing she is right about in your opinion?

Palin has fooled a lot of people. Even here in Alaska opinions of Palin are changing once they see through her "golly gee ah shucks schtick". I don't know what exposure Pagilia has had to Palin, but I would wager its not as much as anyone in Alaska. She's entitled to her opinion and I'm entitled to mine.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

Evangelicals make up her base, in Alaska and in the US. I'm sorry you don't agree with that opinion. I'm sorry you don't like the way I express that opinion. But it is my opinion, and I have valid reasons for those opinions.

She is NOT extremely successful. You can't name a single accomplishment as a politician, while I can give you a dozen examples of her lies, lack of ethics, and lack of integrity. She has failed miserably to live up to her own standards of transparency and openess in government. I give respect when it is earned. She has done nothing to earn my respect.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

So how else should we address someone that we think is stupid and an idiot? Is there some politically correct way of saying that? How obvious it is that you know so little about what you're talking about. Alaska. Palin has NOTHING to do with the success of Alaska. In fact her ill advised AGIA program granting half a billion dollars to a foreign company for a pipeline they cant build may actually cripple Alaska's ability to develop our resources.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

No. There is video of Palin with her witch doctor. No video of the extreme right wing evangelicals holding a gun to McCain's head saying either pick Palin or they all will stay home rather than vote for him.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

This is a thread about Palin and McCain, it has nothing to do with Obama.

Tell me what lies I have said about Palin or her record.

She can't be a conservative AND raise the budget 20% in two years. A conservative would be cutting budgets and creating smaller government right? Isn't that why she is against taking the stimulus money? She doesn't want to grow government right? Which is it? She can't be for and against growing government can she?

Palin moved forward on the sports center when the city didn't even have clear title to the property. She basically stomped all over the private property right of the owners. Is that what you call conservative? "End in sight on lawsuit over sports center land" http://www.adn.com/matsu/st...

So you think that being appointed to a bunch of committees makes her an expert? You're kidding right? Experts are the ones that come to testify to those committees she sat on. They are the ones that can make complete sentences that actually make sense. They are the ones that don't think dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time. They are the ones with actual brains and know how to use them.

TransCanada was chosen because they are the only ones that submitted a "qualifying bid" under AGIA. Some suspect they were the only ones that qualified because of ties between them and Palin administration officials. TransCanada won't build the line because they can't. They don't have the gas, they don't have the financing, they don't have the federal permits. The Oil Producer's project http://www.denalipipeline.com/ has the gas, has the financing, and has the permits and right of ways to build the pipeline. The are in the field doing the required field work to move forward. Plus, they aren't taking any money from Alaskans to do it.

Bla,bla, bla... you don't know a damn thing about rural Alaska and I'm insulted that you would even pretend to. Last fishing season was horrendous. Palin was warned about the coming disaster and did NOTHING. Instead of giving away $1200 on top of the PFD she should have provided fuel vouchers or negotiated rate reductions with suppliers. But she wanted the biggest bang for the buck for her bribe of Alaskans. Conservative my ass.

Alaska has plenty of jobs? Really? Why is our current unemployment rate 9.3% statewide and climbing? http://www.labor.state.ak.u... What kind of jobs are available in those affected areas of Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta? Why is Palin rejecting funds to extend unemployment benefits and job training? What EXACTLY has Palin done with leadership to address the problems in Bush Alaska? All she has done, is what you are doing. Blowing hot air with no substance.

Every religion is a cult. I'm not even going to debate the topic with someone that believes that the USA is a Christian country. It's not, nor has it ever been, nor will it ever be. As I said before, there is no freedom of religion without freedom from religion.

I've raised three girls to adulthood, they are all happy, productive, citizens. I can't imagine any of them at any time getting pregnant, choosing to have an abortion without talking to their mother or I - Not even as adults. In fact Bristol Palin said that telling her mom and dad about being pregnant was harder than giving birth. And that's in what we are supposed to accept as a good model family. What must the family be like where a 15 or 16 year old girl was unwilling to talk to her family about her pregnancy? Perhaps it's in the case of abuse at the hands of a family member? Are you suggesting that a family should be allowed to force a child to have an abortion against her wishes? Or are you only for parental rights that would oppose an abortion? A far as I'm concerned if a girl gets pregnant while a minor, the family has already failed and they aren't due notification, never mind being required to give permission. This isn't about parental rights, it's about being against the right to choice.

I don't personally know any of the other bloggers you mention. I do read them and I may post once once in awhile on their sites, but rarely. I am more active on the ADN Politics board, but it's mostly to act as a counter weight to the loons from teamsarah and sarahpac. People like you who have no clue about Alaska and could really care less. You're infatuated with an image. An image that has no basis in reality. She was a beauty queen and she thinks that's all she needs. Suckers like you slop it up.

Oh and as far as I know, this latest ethics complaint against Palin is the only one filed by Celtic Diva.

Re: McCain Will Not Say He'll Support Palin -- Taegan Goddard's Political Wire

Boy how I love it when Palin supporters get their panties all twisted in knots whenever anyone dares to criticize Her Highness Queen Palin. LOL

Those draft Palin for VP sites were created and promoted by idiots living in their parents basements who thought it would be cool to have a "hot" VP.

She is not a "bona fide" conservative. She has increased Alaska's operating budget 20% in her first two years in office. As mayor of Wasilla she put the tiny city 20 Million dollars in debt for sports facility paid for by raising sales taxes. She submitted an Alaska budget based on oil prices double what they were at the time and still over $20 bbl over the current price of $49.

What makes her an 'energy expert'? Her degree in journalism? The fact she saw the Trans Alaska Pipeline one time on a moose hunt? The fact that she is squandering 500 Million dollars of Alaskan's money on foreign company to do exactly what oil producers are doing for free? And what do Alaskans get for that money? Nothing. TransCanada isn't required to put a shovel in the ground and they "earn" the money. Yeah, she is adept at energy issues that communities in Bush Alaska are accepting hand outs from Hugo Chavez AGAIN.

I for one don't "hate" God. I don't "hate" Christians or any other cult. I just want to keep it out of my government and out of my face. What you choose to do behind closed doors in your private place of worship is entirely up to you. Even Palin's being blessed by her witch doctor. There is no freedom of religion without freedom from religion.

Palin is not a leader. She's a reactionary. Instead of being out in front coming to the assistance of rural Alaskans who were facing having to make a choice between eating or freezing she stood on the sidelines. It wasn't until after private citizens and legislators responded to the crisis bring in food and fuel to the communities did she do anything. What did she do? Extended the moose season in the area, which was good. Sent out some mid level bureaucrats to "investigate". Then she flew into the area with Evangelicals Prevo and Graham for a photo op.

An example of her religious views affecting public policy. "Palin says abortion-consent bill would protect children" http://www.adn.com/news/pol... .

Now next time you pop off your fat mouth about who is and who isn't "ignorant" you better find out more about who you're talking about. I've lived in Alaska for 30+ years, including a few in Wasilla. I know people who grew up with her and went to school with her. I know people who have worked in her various campaigns. If anyone is ignorant its fools like you that have bought into the bs about her.
