my sister decided she just wants to live freely in an apartment that she can afford--and she'd like to work with dignity using her skills. ?She used to teach college courses. ?She refuses assisted or supportive living.

She is one of seven children--now mother of one, a student at Princeton. ?My sister studied public health, has a phd and then life collapsed. ?She has been in and out of psych facilities for 20 years. ?Colon perforated in May and she is recuperating in a non-stimulating nursing home. She is despondent and withdrawn--no doubt feels abandoned by family of teachers, social workers, professors, etc. ?We believed the system would work for her. ?But now I see otherwise. ?She's languishing in this place and needs an environment that respects her ability to make some decisions. ?But she does need some degree of "care"--more than we can offer. ?She's on disability and medica(re) or (id). ?Is there any way you can help?

I have a sister who has a doctorate degree but due to the vicissitudes of life now finds herself suffering from schizophrenia and now a colostomy and the unstimulating life of a nursing home. She needs assisted living with people of her intellect and age group (50). Does anyone know of such a faciility?
