And I realized this morning that technically the new Tomb Raider has a friendship between women element... except that Lara is the hero in a damsel in distress scenario with that friendship. Sigh.

Re: Internalizing Equality: The Power of Fiction

Funny that you mentioned Buffy Summers as she came up on twitter the other day and one thing that stuck with me was the thing about Buffy that brings her head and shoulders above so many other strong women characters is that she is not perfect and is sometimes weak, acknowledges her own weakness, does the absolutely wrong thing sometimes and is just completely and utterly human. That, for me, was an awesome eye opener of a realization.

Re: Where Is Brian Shaler

Done! There's even a pretty easy way to get from my place to Jamaica station for JFK.

Re: Where Is Brian Shaler

Sadly cannot be the one to plan dinner as I have no idea when I'm getting out of the office tonight. I think tomorrow I'll be out on time, but not sure yet.

Re: State of the Skin 2009

1. Morning face wash at the end of my shower. Currently using Bunny Butt Apothecary Complexion Zen Clarifying Charcoal soap alternating with Aveeno Positively Radiant face wash. Post shower while still damp apply blemish buster to any blemishes - for years have used Neutrogena on-the-spot treatment, but recently have been trying Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish stick. Follow that up (once it dries a bit) with alternating depending on skin needs Oil of Olay Combination Skin 15spf "Beauty Fluid" or Bunny Butt Apothecary Complexion Zen Clarifying Facial Creme (with tea tree oil). Body care is regular sugar and salt scrubs from Villainess followed by body butter from Villainess, Magic Hands Workshop or Bunny Butt Apothecary and then sunblock in the summer. Night time if I remember, tone with witchhazel or wash outright if it's reaaaally gross, then blemish goop and face moisturizer as before.

Wow... that was a lot to write.

2. Blemishes and under eye puff/dark spots. I'm almost 30! This is ridiculous! Yes, it's that time of the month, I'm stressed, and not sleeping... but come on! How do you people (as in all the folks who are blemish free) do it??

3. Under eye concealer (I think it's E.L.F.), clear brow mascara (they are thick and wayward... also E.L.F.), black eyeliner, lip balm of the moment.

4. Unlikely to use anti-aging things simply because it would counteract my attempts to deblemish myself.

5. Sunblock, face moisturizer.

6. I guess I follow trends in that I've moved to more natural-based products and away from sodium laureth sulfate where I can.

Re: The Bike is Built!

pictures! yay!

Re: because i said so - mknell:

Wish I had gone out dancing! And, can I tell you that my not-so-secret dream job would be to digitize paintings and such and find ways of archiving everything so that we would have it for at least a few more centuries? Museum tours are also fun even if you're not qualified and art history classes help with the random factoids and funny stories. I explained modern art to a couple friends a few years ago when MoMA was doing their free Fridays.

Re: New Bike in the Works

I'm probably going to see about getting a bike built for me too for just commuting! No fancy bike needs for me, but hopefully something I can ride comfortably in good and bad weather. Exciting stuff!

Re: Hudsn dot org

This turned out really well! I've been looking at it for the past year (and before then when it was not restored and thinking that it should be turned into a zoetrope) and wanting to tape it... and now you did! Funny coincidences!
