There is only one poll that counts, the one that will be tallied next Tuesday night.

Next93 • 11 years ago

I will be going to Mass next Wednesday morning.

I'm normally a "Sundays and occasional Holy Day" sort of Catholic, it's pretty much unheard of for me to attend a daily mass.

But depending how things turn out, I figure I'm going to want to either thank God or ask Him for his help.

And either way, I'm going to want to give thanks that I live in a time and place where the transfer of power is accomplished through a ballot and not with a gun.

chuckg • 11 years ago

I see someone beat me to it! Don't wait until Wednesday--at least be praying to God that the right man is elected. Ironically, I think the nations problems and our long move towards socialism that was accelerated exponentially the last 4 years correlates to the nations removal of God from society. Those who believe in God are viewed as extreme deniers of truth, science, and reality. Is it any wonder that God's replacement (Earth--with its church being Big Government, liberal politicians, scientists, professors, and journalists) has led us to the depths of hell (a president who will not defend Americans in harms way, lie about it, lead us to 16 trillion in debt, lie about economic numbers etc...) ?? I think not. I always pray that God's will be done. If enough Christians pray to God and continue praying after Romney is elected perhaps we will have a President Romney to wake up Wednesday morning and thank God for.

Romeg • 11 years ago

But be prepared for the possibility that whomever G*d thinks is the 'Right Man' may not coincide with what anyone here thinks is the 'Right Man'.

HIS Way.
HIS Time.
HIS Will.

chuckg • 11 years ago

Very True...as I said, "God's will be done!" I hope God hasn't been abandoned by the masses--because nothing like a complete collapse of this nation that is likely to happen if Obama is elected to get the masses to realize in the end--all they have is God.

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

Look at what He allowed the Israelites to suffer when they turned their back on Him and began to sacrifice to idols....[modern idols---sports? TV shows that mock God and people of faith? drugs? abortions? greed? adultery? gambling?]

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

We are praying, and praying and praying.
Meanwhile, we are busy working to get out the vote.

eddiethegeek • 11 years ago

Hopefully you're going to Mass today, too!

basil • 11 years ago

Because of the election or because it is All Saints Day?

Patriot46 • 11 years ago

It is due to the presence of the guns that ballots can be used. Without them, our present President would not need an election.

Erick, thanks for all the hard work. I hope you can relax some and be refreshed enough for the final few days of writing. Remember, all things work out according to a higher plan.

reiska • 11 years ago

I don't live in the USA and am not an American.

But Red State Briefing has given me an excellent overview of current political developments as the election reaches its critical point.

Thank you Eric for your excellent and incisive analysis of the Presidential race and the issues that concern all of us - not just Americans.

I hope with all my heart that Governor Romney is the next President.

It is inconceivable that Barack Obama could be returned based on his record.

The terrible events in Benghazi ought to be the final straw that breaks the back of Mr Empty Suit.

Here in Australia, voting is mandatory. Republicans must get out and vote - the alternative to Mitt Romney is just not conceivable.

God bless America.

westcoastpatriette • 11 years ago

That's interesting, reiska. And what is the consequence if Australians fail to vote? Just curious.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑBE • 11 years ago

A fine, but it is seldom enforced.

tlhoward • 11 years ago

reiska, one of our problems is that a voting block that is most subject to rhetoric and manipulation, the very, very young, turned out last time for Obama. I'd be among those who'd support a law raising the voting age. After all, adulthood has been postponed in our country with each generation. We lowered the voting age to 18 when people argued that if a person was old enough to be drafted at 18, he was old enough to vote. Maybe, maybe not....but we no longer have a draft and few American 18 year olds know their a-- from a hole in the ground.

In fact, since Obamacare mandates that "young people" be able to stay on their parents' health care insurance until they turn 26, if Obamacare remains the law of the land, I'd support raising the voting age to 26--sounds about right considering our delayed adulthood.

vandalii • 11 years ago

Honestly, as a parent of 17- and 20-year old young men, the coverage until age 26 and pre-existing condition parts of Obamacare should still be retained (and I think were in the Republican healthcare response) when Romney works to dismantle Obamacare.

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

Yes Romney has stated twice that he will retain the provision allowing children who are living at home to remain on their parents insurance--and that he will maintain the protection offered by the pe-exsisiting condition clause.

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

Excellent idea, tlhoward.
Not only do most under 25 lack any knowledge of how their own government works, and who is in charge of that government---most don't care. They are obsessed about their I-pads, smart phones and American
Idol shows...

Further, many are brainwashed through the public education system to hate what our Founding Fathers stood for, and to believe our Constitution is 'outdated'.

The liberal media distracts them with junk and trash about Hollywood types who are immoral: shop lift, do drugs, commit adultery and serial marriages--and now the latest is blatantly having children out of wed-lock
and it is promoted by the media as 'cool'.

Athletes are not longer sports 'heroes' but rather miserable examples of rebellion, arrogance and selfish greed.

I think they should be required to take a test to prove they know what is going on in their own government and in their own country--if they pass they can vote before 25.

davesinsanantonio • 11 years ago

There is a new ad out, sorry I don't have the link, that shows Obummer saying the same things today he said four years ago, just empty platitudes. It is devastatingly clear that Obummer is just an empty suit, or an empty chair. There should be no "undecideds" after they view it. Hope they saturate the "undecided" states with it for the next few days.

commonsenseobserver • 11 years ago

Yes, that is one that ought to be used, and to great effect.

By Romney and the RNC, rather than just the Super-PACs, and in all the swing states.

With footage from the debates, all the better. And not just about domestic policy either.

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

I think that many of those who claim to be 'undecided' are using it to get attention and command some sort of position of 'power'. Anyone still undecided at this point has a problem in general, of making up their minds.

CarolT • 11 years ago

Yes, this has gone on since the beginning of 2011, just a few more days. I am voting on November 6.
Governor Romney and Paul Ryan must be exhausted, and I agree Darrell that he looks fresh.
McCain always looks work out, except when he's irate.
I think Romney will win and that the lies and cover up about Benghazi were the beginning of the end of Barack Obama's chances for reelection. I am very upset by their lies and the fact that almost daily some previously unknown cable is found.

darrell5151 • 11 years ago

I hear you Eric, but can you imagine how tired Gov. Romney must be? Yet I see the videos of him at rallies, and he is as fresh as if it were the beginning of the campaign. In 2008 I would watch John McCain, and he looked worn out at this time of the race. Given, he was older than Gov. Romney when he started his run for the White House, that would be expected. I have voted as well, and I for one am tired of this lying empty suited amateur. He needs to go, and take his, hell bent on destroying America circus, with him. I can't wait for Nov. 7th as well, but for more reasons than just being tired of the ongoing campaigning.

sensiblethinking • 11 years ago

"When the righteous rule, the people rejoice.."

ctredstater • 11 years ago

Amen. understandable sentiment expressed my Erick. TMI. Full speed ahead through the finish line.

CarolT • 11 years ago

I worry about what they'll pull in the Lame Duck session and know that O will get his way with Reid. I heard today that Reid said if Romney wins, he'll get nothing from Reid. Why would he say that, unless their internal polls show them losing? At least that's what I think it means.

CommonCents • 11 years ago

The race is over? Huh??? Romney is a guaranteed win?? Oh wait, you tweeting YOU DONT CARE WHO WINS.

A few days to go and you want your life back? as a conservative writer? how selfish and petty is that? Don't you GET PAID to do this???

What about your other tweet? E.E. "I don't care who wins......."

This is the most important election of our lives in the last 2 minutes of a close game and you want to go home??

Where are the GOTV diaries? Oh yeah, you don't give a hoot who wins, you just want your life back. Tell that to millions who have suffered this past 4 years and want their lives back.

What the heck life is that? You are "supposed" to be a conservative writer with a grass roots mission at RS. What happened to that???

This race is NOT over. This is crunch time, GOTV time. And we get a poor Erick sob story? Boo freakin hoo!!!

Your pathetic iphone review diary was even better than this. 30 days ago on a "slow" monday with nothing better to write about.

Shame on you for writing this while millions have suffered greatly this past 4 years, and America is on the brink.

Honestly, can you NOT wait to rest until next week? only a few days away? Really???

Man up!!

Disgusting.

tlhoward • 11 years ago

Yeah, a real odd time to write such an entry.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑBE • 11 years ago

Personal beef much?

CommonCents • 11 years ago

LOL, its called reality. Look up the EE tweets about not caring who wins. I guess that's OK with you PTTP. Laura Ingraham even called him out.

Personal? Look at this diary. It's all about being personal, selfish.

Meh its over PTTP, nobody needs to bother voting or GOTV. EE says its over. What a great message on a grass roots conservative site??

The best you have is accuse me of being personal??? That's grand.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑBE • 11 years ago

CC, with all due respect and without taking a side, I have seen you respond to EE's posts over the last few weeks and it is very, very personal. Not saying his position is right, although I do understand being tired of the constant barrage of politics over the last few months especially the ones coming from the dems, just saying you seem to have taken some offense and it shows in your responses.

CommonCents • 11 years ago

well I very very personally disagree with not finishing out this race strongly. why drop the ball now?

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑBE • 11 years ago

I 100% agree, no arguments from me. I am simply stating that there must be a difference between disagreement and personal animosity or it will simply eat at you.

CommonCents • 11 years ago

Thank you, people get pretty passionate when the country is on the line. I think that's a pretty good time to do so.

alaskaescapeartist • 11 years ago

A lot of my friends want their lives back too... not because they're burnt out on the election. They want the lives back that saw them working in their chosen field, supporting their families, living in a home that actually had some equity, Let's whine about the required effort after Tuesday. The finish line is in sight, and that means bucking up to not only elect someone sane for the White House, but all levels of our representation and swatting away government-expanding ballot measures at every level.

Not all of us are a national personality in the political field, but that is a choice. It seems like poor timing to be complaining when most in this country are suffering and desperately need this country to turn its government around. There are many thousands in less glamorous positions that are grinding it out to win on Tuesday.

Let's not undermine or disrespect them with whining.... let's sprint to the finish line. That will only enhance our chances of truly getting our lives back.

CommonCents • 11 years ago

AMEN!!!

rightwingmom52 • 11 years ago

Do 5's still count for something here? Because that's a 55555! comment right there.

redneckthinker • 11 years ago

I've been doing phone canvassing in my state of Ohio. I don't know whom I am calling. I call a number and it dials for me. Yesterday, I spoke with 23 people in Ohio. 20 stated they do NOT support Obama's policies. The day before, I spoke with 73 people. Only 11 of those 73 people supported Obama's policies. It's like this every day. Most days, Romney gets a 4 to 1 advantage at least. Do I think he'll get 80% of the vote in Ohio? Of course not. I'm not sure how to explain this. Granted, these are people with land lines; they are older and probably more conservative. I have no way of knowing the political persuasions of all the people who hang up on me. Maybe hanger-uppers love Obama. All things considered, I don't see how Obama can win Ohio without massive cheating.

vandalii • 11 years ago

Also note that many Americans don't remember policy in their voting. Just go to YouTube and see all the policy-reversal videos out there asking people whether they liked Obama's Pro-life stance or Pro-right-to-work stance better. And the idiots fall right in line, "love 'em both" without recognizing them as Romney policies. They have their mind (such as it is) made up and even when confronted with the reversal, many still cling to Obama anyway. Sheesh!

mickhensley • 11 years ago

You want your life back, Erick? The majority of us want our country back. When you made that leap of faith a few years ago, what was that really about? You have been mightily blessed.
You rest up. And all you folks on this thread who are so worn out, do the same. Those with more stamina and more to do than peck away at a keyboard will be on the ground, on the phones and watching the polling places.

fightnright • 11 years ago

"Those with more stamina and more to do than peck away at a keyboard will be on the ground, on the phones and watching the polling places."

right, or sooner than we think we'll all be posting as RedStatists - more than we can stomach.

oldtownyankee • 11 years ago

Amen! Erick. Up here in Massachusetts and even more exhausting trying to get Scott Brown over the line all the while battling against all odds in trying to win over a local house seat or two. I have been flat out for months. But OOOOOOOOOOOOOO am I eager to vote.

CarolT • 11 years ago

Thanks for all you are doing in MA, we certainly have to get Scott reelected. I am going to make calls this weekend for both Romney and Brown.

swami7774 • 11 years ago

Don't forget Richard Tisei. He's got an excellent chance to dump the corrupt John Tierney in MA-6 .

CarolT • 11 years ago

Tierney has to go, I'm not in a district that has an option. I had Ed Markey as my rep my entire voting life, it will be that jerk Capuano soon. I did see a woman running as an independent against him. I am not sure who will be on my ballot, Markey of Capuano? I will vote for the competitor no matter who it is. I have often written my name in myself.
How is Sean Bielat doing against Kennedy? We do not need any more Kennedys as reps in MA.
Thank you for all you've done.

Guest • 11 years ago

I think the CNN Poll of Polls is an essentially accurate portrait of the race. They only look at non-partisan live operator polls. Romney is ahead by 1% nationally and is winning most of the real swing states. He is within the margin of error in OH, NH, and IA. Did anyone honestly expect Romney to be in better shape at this point? It is very difficult to unseat an incumbent president, especially one as politically skilled as Obama. All things considered, Romney is in great shape.

commonsenseobserver • 11 years ago

Romney's lead is definitely larger than one.
