Were they speaking some other language than Japanese when describing the crab machine, or were there accents just too thick for me to pick anything out?

LB • 13 years ago

Are you referring to the Chinese folks? If so, then yes, they were speaking Chinese.

SM • 13 years ago

I believe they were in Shanghai in the first segment so their accent would be the Shanghai dialect of Mandarin.

SM • 13 years ago

oh woops i read it wrong. something about south something. i cant read those asian words properly.

I don't understand what happens with the crab _next_. As someone from New Orleans, I know crab cooking is a tedious process, and you really need at least 3 crabs for a "snack". (And even that's not really worth the trouble.) And they don't exactly lend themselves to eating on the go. So you buy a single crab, take it home and boil it?? Or do the Chinese eat them raw? Find either scenario sort of hard to believe.

saru • 13 years ago

At least 3 crabs for only a "snack", that is the difference between americans and asians. And yea, u eat it on the train raw.

Alec • 13 years ago

Um, you buy a few?

It wasn't meant to be an insult. Does everything on web forums have to be insulting? I don't understand. I think it's interesting and I appreciate cultural differences, which is why I'm here. And FYI, I'm 6" (1.8 meters) tall and weight 135 lbs. (61 kg), and am American. So I don't think I qualify as a gluttonous cliche. I am a person who likes travel and Asia. I honestly don't understand why everything online has to be taken -- and responded to -- in an insulting fashion. But this is why I avoid web forums. So sadly, I won't be coming back. Thank you.

Next time, please understand people may simply be asking a question.

Are they friggin crazy?

Ido • 13 years ago

Wow they got everything in vending machines huh?

Mr Crab • 13 years ago

You can get crabs in the used-panties vending machines too, if you're lucky.

This is stupidity squared...I'm adding this little epiphenomenon to the list of reasons why humanity is absolutely doomed, and deservedly so.

kmg • 13 years ago

Well said, Jean. This absurdity, no matter how small, is representative of the legacy that humans will be remembered for. Truly, the earth is our Easter Island.

LB • 13 years ago

No, the Chinese are doomed, the rest of us are just watching.

Abuka Fisches • 13 years ago

How about a lobster vending machine?

Crabs are a form of food to many people, and many think they taste good.

dumb people • 13 years ago

you would think eating a raw crab would give you diarrhea. perhaps thats why. yuk.

Mark • 13 years ago

Surely you're supposed to cook them right? Frozen in a vending machine is surely much better than trying to pick them live out of a pool! ... less dangerous (less painful) that way.
