The higher the monkey climbs, the more he is exposed. This young man is obviously clueless.

IMF2014 • 10 years ago

The ras is an idiot. I guess if his party was in opposition he would not be saying that. I also surmise that if Indecom was created by the Manleys he would not be saying this either

Really • 10 years ago

Ok Mr Crawford we close Indecom then what? Revert tot he police investigating themselves? I wonder if you can confirm whether this worked in the past or not. Instead you should work along with Indecom and help improve the relationship between the JCF and Indecom instead of removing the only credible investigative body to oversee the JCF.

Yes there are hitches but like all other newly formed organisations this can be ironed out eventually with the right approach by all the parties concerned.

Misty • 10 years ago

real 'butu' when someone is ignorant especially to the facts. This Minister clearly does not know the purpose of Indecom and what it does.

Chris Gooden • 10 years ago

You get what you pay for....in this case you get what you vote for....smh...

NADZ • 10 years ago

damian crawford needs to shut the hell up. Let indecom try to do its job. jamaica has one of the highest rate of police killings in the world most of which i must add are controversial. The poor people who elect you Mr. Crawford and whose children police are killing can take you down. you probably need to resign# what have you accomplished so far#

Unbelievable! • 10 years ago

Exactly!! I would like to know what exactly this self indulged loud mouth snook has done to earn his pay today, last week, last month or for the past 2 yrs. To gabber and yap on twitter and condition his hair is no contribution. This is not a social network, beauty contest, rock concert or sting.
Mr. Crawford, why do you have to be yet another typical posing, big mouth/small mind/empty headed bench warming disappointment? YOU ARE NOT A PART OF ANY SOLUTION FOR THIS COUNTRY.
I call for a Damion Crawford mouth and post closure. He is a big PR stunt that wastes money and solves nothing.

Pilgrim00 • 10 years ago

Some of these young mps are something else. Can you imagine what kind of country we would have with Damion in the pm chair? He seems not to think.

Robert Tucker • 10 years ago

and yet PM is where he is aiming to go. if Portia can become PM then it's not impossible.

IMF2014 • 10 years ago

close down Indecom and transfer its functions to PNP HQ

The Establishment • 10 years ago

Once again the ID10Ts we call the Government have decided to act in concert to take down a unit that is put in place to monitor and ensure accountability. As we have seen in the news recently there is now a campaign to discredit INDECOM. Similar to how there was the Government MPs who attacked Civil Society when Lisa Hanna's management of the Youth Ministry was being questioned, and more recently with the attack on the OCG when Azan clearly admitted that what he did was wrong.
What seems to be happening here, and 'shell down Crawford' seems to confirm it, is that the Police are not going to do their job of protecting the citizens of Jamaica. Instead they are afraid of having their actions investigated. What he should be doing is encouraging the Police to act fairly and then there will be no need to fear investigations.
They have nothing to fear once they have acted responsibly and legally. Cooperate with the investigators and once there is a proven track record of good stewardship then INDECOM may very well become their best friend.

GES • 10 years ago

Lets talk.... Is there a growing lobby against INDECOM?
Recently the running phrase in the the US was "fix it... Don't nix it"...the Citizenry needs DESPERATELY an INDECOM ...an effective INDECOM.....
Government against OCG and police against INDECOM...
THERE GOES TRANSPARENCY......
we are trapped....

Duane Andre Mcneil • 10 years ago

as mi start rate a pnp dem let mi down ........i'm convince now that no one in the pnp has a clue what's going on in the country .....someone need to pop dem bubble.

JaneBanton • 10 years ago

Coming from a 'young' MP and a Fortis, this comment is truly disappointing. INDECOM was created as an independent impartial body to correct police abuses; a reality just as crime. Hope is fading. I wonder what the other young MP share or disagree with his view.

Blind-with-eyes-wide-Open • 10 years ago

Winning election and drinking milk is their only taught and none for the suffering the people have to endure.

circa1838 • 10 years ago

I see, it was not created by your cocktail party so we must close it. You are the PR stunt, you and your post are drags on us tax paying Jamaicans; go close your office door and never return. Please find a meaningful job if you know what that looks like.

Fair and Balanced • 10 years ago

Minister Crawford is living in a fool's paradise. I hope he never leaves its boudaries or he could be in ofr a big surprise.

Huey P Newton • 10 years ago

fashion dread. him look like wolf inna sheep clothing to me, a weh dem a cover up? him cant be rasta and a have babylon a lick down black youths. A wah kind a history him study. So what is his solution to the police brutality? Him no how much brutality rasta survive by police? a weh him a talk bout?

Boooo! • 10 years ago

His security detail is thick enough, and eating a nice food. So he will say anything that comes out of his unconscionable and unambitious mouth.
Instead of putting forward suggestions and solutions as to how INDECOM can better or more effectively serve the people, or suggest measures which might help the affected bodies to overcome their differences, he places the most damning indictment on a vulnerable population by denigrating and discounting their last/only line of defense.
A waste of time idiot calling himself government.
(Portia really has a sordid brood. Some of them scatter brained and dunce. It's more than time to put this dangling dilettante to pasture, or in the back room to dust furniture.
We need a new Jamaica. Not a new set of idiots being new problems, and with old and insane ideas.

icki madrasi • 10 years ago

Without INDECOM is more of a license to kill while a inertia society remain quiet of some of these questionable police killings.

And what the mayor of Kingston Angela Brown-Burke tweeted? Can anybody remind me?

Run his %%% out of parliament. This view reveals just what is wrong with our representatives they just don't give a damn about the rest of us.

courtney • 10 years ago

I am convinced that this administration has not a clue about governing. The Police finally has an independent body that will at least prevent some of the atrocities and we have an elected person wanting the body that at prevent the blatant disregard for the Jamaican public. A police force that shoots then ask questions, a police force that does not shoot to dis-arm but shoot to kill, a police force corrupt in every sense of the word, a police force who has no respect for the people it is suppose to serve and protect, and the only body that is trying to hold them to good ordinance bust be dispensed with ? This is yet another reason for being sorry for voting for Sister P who no longer talk to us Jamaicans or treat us as if we are who she governs. A person now willing to sell her soul and all our remaining assets to Hong Kong and China. I cant wait for the next general election

Courtney Barrette • 10 years ago

We could call his comments "youthful exuberance." Cliff Hughes interviewed him about his comments and Damion was out of his depth. Damion needs to engage his brains before his mouth.

Fanna • 10 years ago

From my memory and what was printed in the newspaper the "shell down" comment was NOT in reference to Jamaica's performance in the London Olympics but rather the MP's 'performance' in one of London's night club.

james • 10 years ago

hhhh, this is strange to hear from a jamaica politician in truth...a man who actually tells the truth...this indecom was given power by the imf,who actually run jamaica right now and maybe even before...but all these things you see happening is actually jamaica being held hostage, those people just like most in those weird 2 parties, dont actually want crimes/murders to stop..for the smart ones if you think i am kidding..go look at imf history, its like the catholic church and country or region they enter stays poor and crime ridden..maybe damion would explain it to some of you who refuse to read sensibly..

Robert Foster • 10 years ago

Are you an idiot?

Courtney Barrette • 10 years ago

He is a government Minister and is sitting in his ivory tower so he does not care if us ordinary Jamaicans are abused by the police.

Unapologetic • 10 years ago

My prediction is that INDECOM will be no more come next year. We all need to watch the joint sitting of Parliament reviewing INDECOM. Watch Sgt Raymond Wilson in parliament talking against INDECOM's operation. I believe the Government will disband it and give the false dread and Raymond Wilson their wishes.

Fighting for a better Ja. • 10 years ago

Jr. Minister Crawford is to my train of thoughts is a very practical and pragmatic elected personnel. We are in a state of undeclared war , criminal elements destroying the lives and hopes of our people. The Police is the last barrier between us the law abiding citizens and them .To have them so restricted by another state organisation is certainly a conflict of interest. And please remember that after the victory of the Police, there is an open invitation to INDECOM and JFJ and all to see that the right to life is respected by all. War always bears Causality. Pity , Pity, Pity.

NONSENSE • 10 years ago

What you saying is pure nonsense and idiotic.

If 3 tweets as shown above is all there is,I am amaze that, this item as made news!
Real news must be in short supply for this to attract the attention and time of a reporter.

blackconservative • 10 years ago

Crawford is right. Indecom should die a natural death.

Reds • 10 years ago

I'm in total agreement with the Minister on this one. We are wasting any inordinate amount of scare resources on a security force that is intent on Policing the Police. They have any few, if any success in prosecuting the Police. At the same time, we have an inept Police Force which low solve rate of serious crime. Let us shift INDECOM resources to curtailing major crimes and solving all those murder cases.

Yes INDECOM is a total waste and only help the police haters feel that there is someone looking over the Police shoulders. Scrap it now!!
