Thank you. I now feel free to go get my third cup of coffee today.
Disclaimer: I was going to anyways, but now all guilt has been magically erased. :)
Do you think it really helps decrease the chance of parkinson's disease or are people (myself included) who drink 2-3+ cups of coffee a day just used to the shaking and can't tell the difference?
As if I needed justification for coffee!
Sadly, as many of these infographs do, it fails to mention that just because two things are correlated, does not mean that one causes the other. One would need to look at what kinds of people consume that amount of caffeine and why.
Thank you! Maybe people who drink a lot of coffee are more affluent, and thus eat better. Or maybe those who do not drink coffee tend to drink soda... And the soda is causing the health problems...or...or.... Ugh :-/
It's called controlling for other variables. It is important when you are a science-talkin' guy...
Overthinking!
Tea anyone? ;____;
earl grey. hot.
wait. drink your black coffee! :D
4-5 cups a day might be "good" for you, but you're going to have to recalculate your water intake, if you keep track. I think a lot of people (Americans especially) under-appreciate the value and necessity of water. Don't forget: Coffee is a diuretic and diuretics will cause a dehydration that will take you by surprise, if you're not careful. Cool infograph though. I like learning things about nutrition that I didn't know before. Is it the caffeine that causes all these benefits or a combination of multiple substances in coffee that provide these benefits?
What is this water you speak of. My blood runs black with the COFFEE. I only dehydrated once. That was in 130 degree weather with no air conditioner in my truck and I had already slammed a gallon of water. I was alright after a cold bath.
Water?? Ewww! You know what fish do in water!
This comment made me laugh... You kinda need water to make your coffee LOL
60 years old, i drink about 10 cups coffee per day and I rearly drink water.. I've never been dehydrated.. I'm not suprised yet, seriously not careful.. I enjoy my coffee.. one of the few pleasures in life if you don't drink don't smoke don't take real drugs (that from the streets)..
I think a lot of these people have missed the point that coffee is just water in a different form, as my doctor would say.
so is soda, and moonshine for that matter, haha
and sea water. good drinkin.
Be careful, sometimes people can lose their ability to tell if they are hydrated or not, and can get ill. A bit scary!
Regular caffeine users get tolerant to the diuretic effect so you can could those coffees towards your fluid intake. If you want to be generous only count half towards your total. The recommended fluid intake is very inexact. A better measure of hydration is urine color and output. Google urine color for a color chart. Go coffee drinkers!
The Navy has the urine charts all over. Very stylish.
I think regular consumption of coffee also creates tolerance to the other, more beneficial effects...but plenty of drinking (as long as your eyes don't start bulging) is always a good idea.
Ever considered that coffee might have holistic effects? Since you do feel better in the morning after some coffee. I rarely drink coffee and I feel fine.
As a barista, I would like to clear up the confusion about caffeine content of brewed coffee and espresso shots. A 12oz cup of coffee with have 230-270 mg of caffeine where as 2 shots of espresso (2 oz) has about 150 mg. So when you need an extra boost of caffeine, go for coffee over a latte. Also, each cup of BLACK coffee has about 10 calories, each 1oz espresso shot is 3-5.
It's so hard...mocha is calling...OOOH! they've got cookie and vanilla cream!...must...drink...black...black...black...F that! Segregation! Slavery to non diabetes inducing coffee! SLURP SLURP SLURP...
I love coffee so much, with just a bit of half n half and nothing else . . . but sadly, I have to be super careful because it can exacerbate my anxiety badly :(
I'm so jealous of people who can drink like 5 cups of coffee a day! It's not fair! Even the smell of coffee is delicious and makes me happy :)
coffee makes me feel weird when i drink it
Maybe you're just really weird and coffee makes you more self-aware.
bazinga
ZING!!!!!
Finally proof to support my massive coffee drinking habits:D
I did not have any coffee this morning and installed a can of coke into my face instead.. this was a very bad idea :(
Go diet, after a couple of years it tastes much better.
I love imaginary statistics
I agree, 78% of the time.
78% of the time, every time.
I wouldn't trust Livestrong.com for scientific facts.....try google scholar or web of science.
COFFEE.
Also, let me just say putting cream and/or sugar in Coffee is tantamount to blasphemy and should be punished as such.
That is so sad because I love putting cream and sugar in coffee...:)
Oatmeal your pretty fucking funny for some knowledge nerd.
So knowledge is for nerds only? You've got a sad look on life, bro.
naygur
Coffee is really good for those suffering from ADHD. The darker roast the better I've found. Instant to a much lesser degree
Splendid topic for a blog, Ryoko, and great idea to exemplify many of your posts with infographics.
If you haven't already seen it, I'd recommend a great book about caffeine called "The Caffeine Advantage" ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/pr.... The authors collected and synthesized information about athletic performance, health affects, drug interactions, and much, much more. In fact, the info about drug interactions was particularly eye-opening to me, as I'd never heard anything about caffeine negatively or positively affecting normal prescription drugs. For example, caffeine reduces the effectiveness of oral birth control! Something most people would probably want to know. Might be worth a post on your blog, actually.Keep up the great work!
Thank you Mark! I'll take a look at it:)
This makes me almost wish that I actually liked coffee.
I like a little coffee in my cream and sugar!
I love something caffeinated before a test for school, especially since I have the tendency to go too slowly on tests and the caffeine makes me want to go as fast as I can, but with my anxiety disorder I really think the only reason I screwed up at a national fencing tournament was because I rushed in my fencing and freaked out and broke down when I started to lose. Not for every athlete.
Used to drink a lot of coffee when I was in high school, overdid it one day on the espresso (think 20+ shots in 16 hours or so) and have been a little gun shy ever since; this makes me wanna go get a Keurig right now.
Drinking coffee 30 min before exercise isn't advised by any doctor, please don't do this.
Also, there's no mention coffee's negative long-term effects on blood pressure or resting heart rate.
i like the little disclaimer saying "Drinking a venti mocha with whipped cream four times a day isn't good for anyone." made me chuckle. :)
