Nyanza ranks No. 1 in hooliganism if the stoning of Tuju motorcade, the burning of Migunas effigy and now this sad ending of human life resulting to the murder of 4 pple in the hands of these hired thugs is anything to go by.

Weso • 12 years ago

As a friend of ODM, I send my heartfelt condolences to the wife and family of the late Shem. But if I may ask, who are these hit men and which world to they live on because they continue killing with impunity and they are never apprehended? And apparently to them it is a lucrative business? So who do we as Kenyans turn to resolve this problem because Police seem to be helpless in resolving these cases??

ILengut • 12 years ago

The killers could even be in the frontline demonstrating..evil world.

ILengut • 12 years ago

What did the 4 who were killed do? understand the outrage but thugz should take advantage of an already bad situation. where is safe now in Kenya...polee sana to family and friends of Mr, shem..realy sad!

mzee_wikileaks • 12 years ago

My condolences to the family for the loss of their loved one. However the people of Luo Nyanza should desist from fighting policemen every now and then, they are doing their duty. Anyone, I repeat ANYONE who attacks a police station expects no mercy, including terrorists. You dont expect to find USHERS at the police station, you meet the full force of power.

Pole to the family.

Godbye Kenya

Michael Mambo • 12 years ago

So, how did the violence help?! Apart from lost lives, losses in millions of Kenya Shillings to the economy, this chaos also helped the killers get away. Instead of the police working hard to pursue and apprehend them, they were kept busy engaging rioters and putting out bonfires. Are some people this idle?!!

Tony Tone • 12 years ago

As we await for complete investigations in to this sad matter, my only question is this: why do police use live bullets on innocent demonstrators who are not armed causing even more deaths? Haven't they ever heard about rubber bullets?

Michael Kiarie • 12 years ago

How could the police fire a teargas canister into a shop? Were they trying to smoke out people who are not taking part in the riot? They should be held responsible because they were supposed to engage with those who are throwing stones and blocking roads and not those who have taken refuge.

Caren Atieno • 12 years ago

God Help as, this may be a very hidden national political game to disturbilise our wonderful people like elsewhere. Let God's people a rise to be counted to pray to our big God. He is able and will see us through to a good Kenya one day.

The Kenyan Trauma Surgeon • 12 years ago

its amazing what a Kenyan would do to person who would have brought positive change into the country, instead of giving more life..we even take the little that he has and remember this........"they wont bring the change once elected"

Lord rest his soul, Lord rest souls of all assassinated leaders like Shem and Tom mboya

Rashid Mwagi • 12 years ago

Four people were killed on Monday in Kisumu following violent protests that were ignited with the killing of an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary aspirant Shem Onyango alias Kwegah.......and I found this to be odd.. It would have been easier to mourn and await police investigations. This gives a bleak future and also reinforces the belief that even PEV was spontaneous and not well orchestrated.

Joecking • 12 years ago

@facebook-609400249 have you noted that nobody is concerned about the 4 people who were killed as a result of 1 politicians death. All the condolences are going to the Politician, how I loathe these politicians...

Rashid Mwagi • 12 years ago

Joecking i am worried at how affairs of this country are run by the Mwananchi, mwenyenchi and mwanasiasa...it is a sad state of affairs. It is all about the politician. I find it odd..very odd

Chings • 12 years ago

This is a shame. Kisumu needs to grow up. You cannot keep rioting every time something comes up. Now 5 people are dead. Where are your dialogue skills? Wekeni mawe chini!

kenowiti • 12 years ago

kenya would not be where it is without riotings its a trend to developing nations ,even us and europe had gone through this in their early days so lets be optimitic kenya would be the best country in future believe it or not

jackline • 12 years ago

Rioting is the road to the end for Kenya cox rioting is Anarchy and kills demokrati

If for every car jerking we ran to the streets, when are we ever be at work?

Kepha Omweri • 12 years ago

Kepha Omweri (2009-2010): I am so disappointed for the same having worked in his firm. I knew him better. Quite concerned and merciful. I pass my condolences to the bereaved family. Sorry mum u'll get better soonest.

Joecking • 12 years ago

Leave no stone unearthed till these murderers are napped and jailed for life. This is a very unfortunate incident and i am requesting all aspiring candidates for various political offices in the country to beef up their security.Stop being complacent because insecurity seems to be common news nowadays.

Guest • 12 years ago

bloody hell elections! Please come to pass ASAP!

nduri • 12 years ago

Very sad incident that has even become more so because all the lives
that were unnecessarily lost.Just wish there was a better way of making a
point without being so violent..may God rest their souls in eternal
peace and comfort their loved ones

This is a great and golden opportunity for different tribes to surface their civility and depicit their capacity of reasoning. Nyanza area has started in style. What will jakuom say about this ? Orengo and Oburu i hope they will handle it better.

Clever Pine • 12 years ago

Why won't people compete in a civil manner. This is barbaric and a blatant attack on innocent lives. The killers must be brought to account for their actions. Really sad.

wuod_aketch • 12 years ago

This is just another violent robbery case being painted political.

Jeremiah ojulu • 12 years ago

Muhunjia! Stop politicising this issue when a life is lost. I really love kenya but sometimes I wonder if I could come back to Kenya and fill safe that no one will just decide that I should die just because they can, and the worst is they do it in broad day light and get away with it. RIP Shem.

nyagwati1 • 12 years ago

its dog eat dog.....why investigate??? they know who and why.... they should stop pulling government to that mess.... i hope this one will calling political responsibility or crime against humanity.................

sonof1 • 12 years ago

Extremists going out to the streets to cause chaos, havoc & destruction. shame on them

Kariari • 12 years ago

This is very sad for our country!! And why the riots and looting?

eddyeddyy • 12 years ago

kenyans from the lakeside area should learn how things are supposed to be sorted out.

nyagwati1 • 12 years ago

why are you diverting from the bottom line..... These are the same brain washed, Hypnotised and narcissism society.... Ocampo and Bensouda are going by heresy and not fact.... where was the war concentrated? is not Kibera, Huruma and Mathare?? the larger population is who???? who asked for mass action?? come on investigator and the so called fact finders.... the same mentality of demonstration and mass action due to idleness is the mother of all crime against humanity... was there stolen election??Why go for the wrong people while killers as you can see, demonstrators etc etc...... Bensouda should send her team to Kisumu no incriminating innocent so that someone can get to power shame............

Can ODM survive without Railla? Its a shame that self made people are loosing their lives in the name of ODM!! May God give comfort to loved ones of Mr Kwegah.

beltanefire5 • 12 years ago

The election is not till March and already the killings begin What hope now a a peaceful election I f these elections are a repeat of the last then neither the ICC nor anyone else can help Kenya It would seem that the road to self destruction awaits I pray sincerly that you do not put a foot on it as once there there is little chance of return

MaizeScandal_23b • 12 years ago

Only a retard can blame the police. You cannot resort to destrying property because of this unfortunate situation. No citizen is justified in any way whatsover to take the law into his/her own hands and start destroying property. It is extremely sad and unfortunate the manner in which Kwegah was killed. However you dont expect the police to be on every street and at every corner. Police should investigate this issue and bring the culprits to justice. This clearly is a political assasination.

Christopher Adhanja • 12 years ago

These policemen are quick to kill innocent people in peaceful demonstration but slow to act against terrorists killing innocent worshippers in churches. Someone should be held accountable for the deaths including Mr Kwega's.

james • 12 years ago

Arrest Muhoroni MP, Ayiecho Olueny now! These are the leaders who fan hatred and prevent investigation. With these types of afterviolence more deaths occur. Leaders need to take their time, give police ample time to find the perpetrators and then ask for a peaceful demonstration to seek peace not violence. Arrest Olueny now!

Christopher Adhanja • 12 years ago

These people were demonstrating peacefully until the police lobbed teargas at them and during pandemonium the police started shooting indiscriminately. Ayiecho did nothing wrong.

binkezzy • 12 years ago

youths in kisumu should learn to air their grievances in mature way. Their primitivity has caused more deaths to innocent Kenyans!

mzee_wikileaks • 12 years ago

@binkezzy. That makes alot of sense.

Christopher Adhanja • 12 years ago

Your language sound more primitive than the youths in Kisumu.

binkezzy • 12 years ago

are you one of those in the streets?

kobiero • 12 years ago

I was in Kisumu when the demonstration started. Other than chanting and complaining about insecurity, there was no destruction of property until the police started firing at the crowd. Remember picketing is a constitutional right. I have seen people demonstrate in different parts of the country but no one makes comments such as primitive of people of kiambu or nyeri . Such comments border on tribalism

samahani • 12 years ago

When an Innocent Muslim is shot dead he is labelled a terrorist, Its is the same goons who do the killing everywhere, Mombasa or Kisumu. poleni sana nyote mulio dhurika na huu mkasa,These shootings must stop, whether by the police(extra judicial killing) or other gangsters.

A_Diaspora_View • 12 years ago

I feel very sad at the passing on of someone I've know for several decades. Shem was on top of his peers in the days of "Cambridge O Level" exams, an excellent Flight Engineer & instructor at Kenya Airways, and an astute businessman in Kisumu. For those assassins (and their principals/ co-perpetrators) - you have been put on notice. Impunity is slowly dying and the law will catch up with you.

barakaoyula • 12 years ago

Human life in Kenya has less value than that of a fly.Kenyans are kiling each other than they kill flies.

Guest • 12 years ago

lack of civilization. Whats sense does it make for 4 people to loose lives protesting the death of one political aspirant? Are there no better ways or legal manner to express their anger and concern?
