All that needs to be done now is someone to rewrite Kenya's history books

shybull007 • 10 years ago

Is this going to unit Kenyans or even split father.

Subira • 10 years ago

Land not the issue here our stupidity is

thuthru • 10 years ago

One of the bloggers has said it right... when it comes to the British atrocities, we need cash from them. For our own crimes, we say let us move on. Where is the truth here?

reg • 10 years ago

Thinking Kenyans we are obsessed with a thing we may not know if not recognition. The path the truth commission chose is a sure way of receiving a very firm NO from all the parties involved.
A more better approach could have been not to demand and also avoid the perception.....( were it not for them an apology cant be considered). Perhaps even some boardroom advice with these parties could have worked miracles to the offended

M.Khatimi • 10 years ago

I think the gist of the report is to learn forgiviness so that the living ones can enjoy the fruits of the future. We Africans are always for the side of kill and revenge, why cant we not borrow the wisdom of Mandela who forgave his torturers. We want to lead a decent, simple and do no harm life.
What if today all who allerged to be among culprits of any attrocities at anytime in Kenya are to be condemed or prosecuted given the fact that clannisim and individualisim has not yet healed from the kenyan minds.
Let us continue supporting the civil society, till te ballot box becomes the rewarding the courageous and punishing the failors.

olodokila • 10 years ago

Despite the fact that land is a scars commodity and a global issue! i wish to inform Kenyans that every one has an origin or ancestral land in Kenya! why make it political yet its a grave concern? Mama Ngilu ! the history will judge you, this is your only chance to iron out these menace having in mind that not all 42million Kenyans can own land! but can make use of the available to better their life!

samahani • 10 years ago

We need the land issue addressed and totally resolved , mere apologies would not do.The land problem still exist and until resolved will still be the subject of future conflicts.

mwaganu • 10 years ago

I never got free land from anybody. I worked and bought what little land i have. I move on, Agree people took land illegally, and too people were killed for no reason at all. Life goes on. My family lost alot of land from white people in Karen area, where do i start, go killing the peole who are there now?

Mili Chepkemoi • 10 years ago

We need FULL revelation (no tricks) then to set a threshold for amnesty geared towards victims, justice and national healing. Maybe a team of experts can present a terms of amnesty proposal for referendum vote. South Africa conducted something similar after a dark past. Otherwise i fear a smokescreen aimed at scuttling ICC only for the truth to surface in some report 80 years down the line @ which point such truth will belong only in history& civics education books.

Shanghaiboy • 10 years ago

this right here is a good platform for the digital team...i am praying they don't squander it like the former guy squandered his. Do Something!

Mr. Thariki • 10 years ago

So, we were disinherited, oppressed, humiliated, marginalized and we even shed our blood and a mere apology is supposed to be a reparation for all the injustices we have suffered? Can we please get real

mwaganu • 10 years ago

What do you want, start killing each other again, what alternative do we have?

thuthru • 10 years ago

This must be really tough on the president! Anyway... we move on.

Mili Chepkemoi • 10 years ago

You are funny. This is all you got out of it..... let me just "move on" to another post.

Eunuch • 10 years ago

Welcome to Kenya MOVE ON plc. Do you have shares?

Lydia Erick • 10 years ago

yes Uhuru must do that

Jakowinoh • 10 years ago

What good will the apologies do? Let these people be prosecuted.

mwaganu • 10 years ago

If we prosecute all people who have wronged kenyans, we will spend all life in court. let's move on. God forgive, so should we.

Wagichia • 10 years ago

I think this was all known even before. What we didn't know is the recommendations of which shouldn't to apologize.

Jimmy Shigi • 10 years ago

Afro sinema continues...

Guest • 10 years ago

So we pay a bunch of commissioners money to tell us what could have easily been done by two journalists of a backstreet publication...they contradict themselves by mentioning their chairman...so this too we should accept and move on...

agusa2010 • 10 years ago

I think we Kenyans are missing something really reasonable as usual!!! What we need is not an apology from a president whose own name and that of his deputy are tainted by the same report, we need an eminent patriotic son/daughter of Kenya, most preferably, one who was tormented by the same system, to publicly rebuke the presidency(as opposed to the president), and if need be, rebuke the sitting president for not acting personally when his own name was mentioned in the Report!!

tim tim • 10 years ago

NONSENSE- these commission must have spent millions of taxpayers money - just to ask some people to APOLOGISE

Mistiq • 10 years ago

This has turned out to be a joke. I could have told you these same stories over a period of one evening 15 years ago and it would have only cost you a few drinks. I demand a refund of MY money from Kiplagat and those other jokers at TJRC. Then quickly proceed to disband NCIC and save more useless reports and embarrassment.

thuthru • 10 years ago

Yes... they imposed economic sanctions on parts of the country for years. Nyanza was hit by two Tsunamis..one from Mzee followed by a huge one from Moi. I need apologies and bigger allocations to areas which have been deliberately marginalised then we move on

mapinduzi • 10 years ago

Wacha porojo! Raila Odinga was the Secretary General of KANU in the late 90's and a minister for energy in Moi's Government when ALL progressive Kenyans were fighting the tyrannical rule of that regime. In addition to that, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga was at one time a Vice President of Kenya. Therefore, please be objective and desist from rewriting history.

thuthru • 10 years ago

I am reading Kenya's short history of unequal development and regime sponsored sanctions against hostile communities - not writing yet. When I write you may stop reading

thuthru • 10 years ago

I did not write the report... I am only confirming what the report says. I lived through it. What is Marginalisation to do with Raila and his father? Give me a high five and we move on. ...pwana!

Eunuch • 10 years ago

Please accept the template and verdict from TJRC and MOVE ON.

Symon Wa Juja • 10 years ago

Are there visible developments initiated in the last 10 years?

thuthru • 10 years ago

wait... going to check. will be back to you with an answer...mmmm. Let us move on

Willie Wanjihia • 10 years ago

This games will never come to an end Just another-day a certain H.E Governor was on all media promising to give land for free to investors(Trustland)Then before another senator law-firm brokered the sale Oil blocks(Trustland) and made apx sh 900millions.Who gives this lot the powers to dispose of community land, without the community being consulted however good the intention seems on face.value?

disqus_rhuzQcG2nl • 10 years ago

If Moi was part of any of this, he should own up and apologize before time runs out...

Dr Josiah Nyagwachi • 10 years ago

Apologies is one step. Kenyans require a clear socio-economic roadmap on how to address the socio-economic imbalances for the five (5) regions identified by the TRJ&R Committee, inorder to narrow and eventually close the development gap with other regions. That is the best way forward, otherwise the healing process will not be complete. For instance, eradication of all mud schools in North Eastern and or North Rift. In Nyanza & Western, for instance one would ensure all flood prone areas are protected at all times. In Kisii for instance, where there are impassable roads despite the agrculture potential - a full scale rehabilitation and upgrading (tarmacking) of roads, and so on.

Sedakta • 10 years ago

The BIG Question is will the recommendations be followed to the letter?

Richie Jk • 10 years ago

it should start with you...! by changing your altitude towards one another..

Eunuch • 10 years ago

Please ask the next wolf how diligent they can safeguard the flock.

Hongky • 10 years ago

Of course it won't. What is in this country?

Muasulai • 10 years ago

Can we get the unabridged report please.

Agwangla • 10 years ago
thuthru • 10 years ago

You deserve a salary increment my broda...

Mazzdark • 10 years ago

Moi is still alive, does he get to face a judge one day perhaps...?

mwaganu • 10 years ago

Wacha mzee huyu mzee apumuzike. He can dea with God when his time come.

ouma geofrey • 10 years ago

Nothing new. After forgiveness what next?

Downtrodden • 10 years ago

move on perhaps????

Kmaati • 10 years ago

This is indeed a bogus recommendation. We cannot erase from our memories what those regimes did to Kenyans, execution in style started in Kenyattas's era perfected in Moi's regime and pretty much continued in Kibakis presidency. Injustices and gross violations of human rights should be by all means addressed in court. We are talking of people loosing their land, then you think just an apology will do it right? No they need their land back and those who lost their loved ones in the cruelty of those regimes needs to know the truth how they died and compensated. It is unreasonable for the TJRC to ask people who were not there when the crimes were committed to apologize when those who committed the crimes are living comfortably in their retirements or some still in offices.

Musa Musee • 10 years ago

One way of ensuring people 'shut their mouths' is make them poor by deprivation and exclusion. So, some regions were systematically marginalised from independence day and they have lagged behind in development to-date. Then those who were given hand outs and 'enabling environment' call people from marginalised regions 'lazy people'

Tony Ruwa • 10 years ago

This archeologist in the name of Truth and Justice Commission has not excavated anything new that Kenyans did not know about already. Or did it? It has merely confirmed the hurt that Kenyans are toting in their daily toils; robbed of their families, land, systematic impoverishing of entire regions through marginalization etc. Like with the advent of the new constitution, the Uhuruto government has been presented with a rare moment to turn the corner. Rewrite history. But will it?

Peterg123 • 10 years ago

This report is far too vast, far too political, it will just gather dust. Why start with the British? The Arabs have lots of money, did they not enslave Kenyans? What is worse, land taken by the colonialists but farmed scientifically and improved, or land taken post 1963 by black Kenyans and left idle to "appreciate"? The biggest Kenyan provinces have been systematically "marginalised" too according to the TJRC - really, what economist will ever put a figure on that? Who can prove it? But it's ok, everyone just has to apologize, except of course the wazungu. They must pay cash! This report just continues to perpetrate the modern culture of "victim and compensation". Sure, let us not repeat abuses and learn from them. But as for the rest it will not go anywhere.
