...and on front page Marende is asking for a salary increase for MPs...I am ashamed we have such leaders...but I am NOT ashamed of Kenya.Get rid of these bunch of thugs in parliament who have no solutions for the people and create a new Kenya...citizens fighting for food and water while they ask for more money!!!

Wanjiku Njoki • 11 years ago

what is kenya doing for tanariver watu wankufa wanalala inje serekali iko wapi

nyagwati • 11 years ago

If I were the president I will suck Micheal Gichangi yesterday coz that
man must be very powerful or his position is a life time one. What is
the work of NSIS? with all the machinery, resources and Taxpayers money sponsored trainings
in US, Israel and UK. RAO you should know that president is not seeking
to be a leader again and we need your intervention now to prove you are
fit for the job. You are the next most powerful and that has nothing to
do with Mkate nusu... Act and you earn yourself credits......

nyagwati • 11 years ago

Its unfortunate that the country is heading to 50yrs after independence and still tribalism is still live. Kenyan should borrow a leaf from other countries that have managed to tame the menace e.g. Zambia which has almost the same number of tribes and they live in harmony, why? coz Kaunda succeeded in that. The problem is, we are one country when these power hungry politicians are traversing the country looking for votes, but after that they become tribal leaders not nationalists. And everyone on his own God for us all. On the other hand, how come they allow civilians to posses guns.

Mathew Omondi • 11 years ago

Zambia does not have that big numbers of pastoralists competing for pastures. The solution lies in the leaders encouraging them to look for other economic opportunities instead of relying on unpredictable pastoralism.

ftmwang • 11 years ago

The only solution to this conflict is first to treat the attackers as arsonists, murderers, evil etc. Then hunt them down and no matter how many they are should be locked in seriously and be dealt with in accordance with the law.As a matter of fact the military and police personnel should be deployed there and establish an emergency response units by air and all means possible. The intelligence units should be enhanced in those areas. There must be police and military patrol at all times in those areas.Emergency response system should enhanced in the entire country and drills should be carried out every so often to test their response. The response under no circumstance should not exceeds five minutes.I believe this is possible.

Mathew Omondi • 11 years ago

You're absolutely right, the government must demonstrate that nothing of the sought should be allowed to happen again. And that's by measures like you've mentioned.

JJB • 11 years ago

The news in my home country (The Netherlands) reported on this massacre. The image of Kenya is deteriorating. And this hurts me, as Kenya is in my heart. It becomes increasingly difficult to convince my Dutch friends and family of Kenyas beauty and kind people. Since the election violence is has been a slow but constant flow of negative news: killings, muggings, abductions, poaching/cattle rustling. As a result there are no holiday offers to travel to Kenya. If you want to rely on tourism as a source of income; I suggest it be taken more seriously.
Solve the land / cattle / housing problem! Let the big fish share their land or something: find a solution.

hassan charfi • 11 years ago

may be we should stop relying on government for our security. leaders must have a hand in this ethnic cleansing

Stephen Muthee Nyina Muthee • 11 years ago

My view is that all this has to do with politics govt should take ciopncrete measures and long lasting ones to protect its citizens from ethnic and tribal wars

nyagwati • 11 years ago

Firstly, why would a grown up person raise his hand/panga and cut a kid unless someone is under influence of drugs? and how come whole community which is not an organized group can turn to be murderers? This rubbish tradition or herdsmen should be abolished and those primitive communities be introduced to descent farming if not business. Religious leaders should teach those communities that killing is un-Godly, and life is precious not to be taken that easily. Government should initiate a drive to teach those community that if their religious people don't. Nevertheless, everyone who is involved no matter who he/she is should be jailed for life. Also, the politicians should use the CDF kit to develop education systems so that you can transform them to useful people not archaic and barbaric morons.

Muhiiga Katashaya • 11 years ago

The issue is land for pastoralists and respect for private farms. Yes we are a communal nation, but that was when we were ruled by honour and dignity. Now we are ruled by money, greed, selfishness and mistrust. These are things even a growing economy cannot solve. PS Iringo would rather appoint County Commissioners illegaly. Misplaced priorities.

littl_hiti • 11 years ago

Things are elephant....sad. Baba Jimmy couldn't give a damn as usual. The MPS are asleep in their $ 3000 dollar chairs as usual, the Generals are passing time in Somalia wasting tax payer dollars ...judges are on 6 week recess blah blah... The Pastors are too busy asking for 'the seed' to be sown. The country is screwed ...deeply, it looks like there is no way out. The tragedy gets more tragic all the time. Sometimes, you can't make stuff up, Only in Kenya .

richard nudi • 11 years ago

I concur my friend.Common kenyans have been left to just be killed at will. What's the work of Kenya's national intelligence,if I may ask.Pathetic.

Lizgitonga • 11 years ago

When the Toposa crossed into Kenya and massacred a similar number of Turkanas for the upteeth time two years back, I said that this will happen again and again and again in northern and north eastern Kenya. People will wail, the Government will send condolences and deploy police and provincial administration for a week and then it will happen all over again. watch this space. Everyone know it will happen again.

This is really sad...Only God can heal our Nation..

Peter Okeyo • 11 years ago

So sad for Kenyans to just lose their lives like that more so very innocent children and women being the majority, I strongly feel this is something that is politically instigated just because of the boundary issue. Why must police officers be deployed in the area after people have died? So far no arrests have been made and yet we have KDF in Somalia!! Please politicians let us stop sacrificing Kenyans only for a 5 year term in Parliament.

To the communities involved, don't go butchering your friends you will need them later on. May God rest their souls in eternal peace!!

kibalka • 11 years ago

Killing anyone is unacceptable, but to kill 42 innocent women and children is the highest peak of cowardice... Mr PC please dont reason like you never went to school telling us u cannot take a whole community to jail... who asked u to? Did Ocampo take a whole community to the hague???

KenyaRenaissance • 11 years ago

Samuel Kilele: “We cannot take a whole community to jail. Is it possible?”

Yes it is Mr. Samuel Kilele! Unless you are modifying the law and allowing murderers to walk free provided they act in gangs? Do you have such power? Kindly investigate, get the evidence and bring the culprits to book - the whole village if necessary. Samuel Kilele should resign for making irresponsible comments that are likely to encourage further violence.

Where is the Government when its own citizens are being slaughtered like this? The Government has sufficient machinery to put a stop to these senseless and barbaric destruction of human life.

Poleni, this is beyond words, very sad. This is a war going on here and what measures has the government been taking. This is a genocide. While other countries that have been at war are striving to make peace,Kenya is doing the opposite and the elections are not yet, just wait.

True...its beyond words....Only God can heal our country Kenya........

dedan kamau • 11 years ago

This was a total neglegence within our security system. I lead this report about some couple of days ago and told my friends that, the provincial commissioner need to deployed police to guard this people as talks go on how to bring a lasting solution. If I was the president all those who are incharge of securiy would be at home and possibly face jail term due to negligence.

Baraka Oyula • 11 years ago

Do we have a govt?Answer-NO.Only thieves and murderers looting whatever they can with Kenyans worshiping them claiming they have no other one to elect. Can you believe that i called a so-called minister who happens to be my area looter NO.1(MP)to inquire if any suspect has been arrested but he told me that he has no story of the deaths leave alone any arrest.

Arthur Kadima • 11 years ago

What is wrong with Kenyan intelligent, NSIS? how come they never saw this coming? are this guys sleeping on there jobs or what is happening? NSIS is now reduced just to do political witch hunting instead of collecting intelligent to protect poor Kenyans. Very sad indeed to lose women and children who did not deserve to be butchered like that. Kenyan security agents need to be on alert all the time...

abdulmconyango1 • 11 years ago

I predicated this sitution would deteriorate in this pages but some over overzealous nation staff pulled down a well reason out article.

Otero • 11 years ago

From time immemorial neighbours have always had petty, trivial squabbles related to keeping up with the Jones' but when it involves the loss of limb and even life as has turned out in this undesirable unfortunate situation amongst our dear coastal brothers and sisters, the government surely must step in to quell the violence, mediate and renew severed relationships amongst these age old neighbours. Crocuta crocuta aka Kenyan MP's need to step up and respond before your neighbour covets your wife and your earthly possesions.

Njuru Julius • 11 years ago

What's happening again in our beloved country? This is should not be allowed to continue. These killings are unwaranted and very sad. The government and the leaders please do something to stop this madness

This is what the world knowing about Kenya? Who will work to change the image of the country? Join together and start the awareness of the Kenyans that they are not wild animals they are human beings! Is there a way to make them understand?

kureimn@yahoo.com • 11 years ago

sack the entire provincial administration starting with the coastal pc followed by provincial police commisioner

Mathew Omondi • 11 years ago

"We cannot take a whole community to jail.Is it possible?".Asked Mr.Kilele the coast PC. In my own opinion this is a guy with no idea why he is a PC in the first place. It is not his job to jail anyone but it is his job to have the perpetrators brought to court to answer charges of murder regardless of whether it is an entire tribe or not.To solve such a problem is easy,it is just to gather information on who did what and they will end up naming each other.Meanwhile lets see if there are govt officials that will lose their jobs for laziness.I am also waiting to see if the Chief prosecutor will see to it that a case is made of whoever killed.Only when the Police get zealous in investigating such atrocities then it can be a deterrence preventing these killings from happening.

andy • 11 years ago

The secretary of the council of Imams and preachers Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa appealed to both oromos and pokomos to end the killings. He said it was unfortunate since both were muslims. Mr khalifa are you saying it could have been OK if it was between Christians and Muslims?? I believe the right message should have been " it was unfortunate since both are KENYANS". It's about time we start looking at and appreciating each other as Kenyans. We are all same people Oromos pokomos kambas Giriamas kikuyus Rendilles etc muslims and christians we are brothers and sisters. What happened to the spirit of Harambee?? lets all pull together and help each other. My sincere condolences goes to those who lost their loved ones. And this is enough evidence that in this day and error the Kenya Govt is not capable of protecting it's people.

SJ502 • 11 years ago

can't people just get along? who will live forever on this earth? this is primitive and it should it is to be condemned in the strongest terms possible...

Bill Sempei • 11 years ago

the Government is the people by the people - sad that the people as killing each other and blaming the Government = the people: The govt. starts from within us & God/Allah wants us to be a reflection of his image - i.e be good to each other. No way the Govt. can come from Nairobi to save you - its you, get rid of the divide and rule leaders among you and live in peace. I have been there, I have lived through hell and its a personal story - to hell with politicians including those who want to attract sympathy in the parliament - they just don't care - Sympathies to the deceased

Mathew Omondi • 11 years ago

Yes it is true that ordinary people have a bigger role to play but it is the work of the government to instill deterrence by investigating the perpetrators and punishing them severely. The government should have an upper hand and not the thugs.None of these atrocities do we ever hear anyone apprehended. It is therefore wrong to assume nothing can be done.

littl_hiti • 11 years ago

....So since the
Government is the people by the people, do you as part of the people have control over the 1.4 trillion budget. Do hire and promote government officers ? To you appoint the Police Commissioner, Or the NSIS or Military ??? Pepole have 100% right in putting all this dog pile on the government.

peace lover • 11 years ago

the people should leve in harmony why shed blood, the leaders should knowthe signs that leads to conflict. need to disarm the KPR and enforce the surrender of illigal fire arms. the police officers patrolling th the area should be not be belonging to the two waring groups.
also the village attacked is it Riketa inkau sublocation kilelengwani location, kipini division or is it riketa in konemansa location of tarasaa division as reported since currently conflict is in kipini division but not tarasaa division, confirm
