Gomez is a decent backup. Wish he would show a little more power at the big league level, a little more patience at the plate, and some improvement on defense (especially at third).

Luckily we won't need him at third if Middlebrooks can stay healthy. Other than Travis Hafner, who is really more of a DH anyway, there's no one better than Gomez on the FA market. I suppose they could try a trade for Morneau, but Gomez is good to go in my opinion.
