Now don't get me wrong ............... I'm all for helping small businesses ................ BUT really, a special bill for 3 hours every 6 years for just a few ................. this is a waste of time and money that should be used on more important bills, that benefits "ALL" MAINE People.

SpruceDweller • 11 years ago

Saying you think something is "garbage"--and then turning around and saying you are "pleased" to sign it--is the quickest way to reveal to everyone that you are more mask than substance.

MikeCInMaine • 11 years ago

We need to look on the bright side.. every bill just needs some sort of pro-booze amendment. I can see the next round of referendum bond issues... "Do you support the issuing of 1 billion in Maine bonds for the construction of an east-west highway whose toll booths with be equipped with mini bars?"

Old Pauly needs to learn how to hold his tongue and think things through before he speaks. But then he wouldn't be so entertaining.

FELT • 11 years ago

The art of deal making as learned in at the feet of the KERRYMEN or in Hallowell's PUBLICK HOUSE.

How embarrassing for Democrats to be sponsoring a pro-drinking bill on a day renown for public drunkenness.....perhaps they will distribute 'vote Democrat' drinking mugs to high school kids....with 'lower the drinking age' on the back.....Won't that be good for small business....or mini-bars in HeadStart programs....with tiny glasses of green beer.

Or a two-fer special w/ Zumba girl.

feingold-in-2016 • 11 years ago

In any case, it's done and it's there. Rather than shelve it and have it return again and waste even more time, LePage should just sign it. As trivial as it may be, there's no good reason not to.

Guest • 11 years ago

No good reason? Ask EMS, Police, and hospital staff after the fact if your "no good reason" theory is relevant. I know of what I speak.

Adrienne Bennett..."No, he won't; yes, he will; no, he won't; yes, he will;"...regardless, he has probably lost some Irish votes, some bartenders' votes, and some early morning hard drinkers' votes...Paulytics popularity just keeps going down-down-down!

FELT • 11 years ago

Or cut a clever power-deal with the Dem's backed into a corner by the Maine liquor lobby....If Barry and the bRATS back out, the Gov. won't sign their pet bills.....No wonder LePage has that 's**t eating grin on his face..HE WON HUGE!.....hahahah.

MaineProgressive20 • 11 years ago

That's why he said he will sign the bill.

feingold-in-2016 • 11 years ago

The original story posted didn't include his decision. He took my good council you see. ;)

seamus37 • 11 years ago

Lessening outdated government restrictions on business and the freedom of citizens benefits all Maine people. Though an Irishman might wonder why he can't legally smoke within 3 miles of Brian Borus. If you don't want to buy or sell the booze, you're free to sleep, go to church, or take a swim. Slainte.

Guest • 11 years ago

Ireland enacted strict bans on smoking. I never dreamed they could pull it off, but they did.

Gerald Weinand • 11 years ago

Indeed - Ireland was the first country to ban smoking in the work place (with some exceptions - pubs are not excepted):

"...BUT really, a special bill for 3 hours every 6 years for just a few ................. this is a waste of time and money that should be used on more important bills, that benefits "ALL" MAINE People."

Well, THAT is what is more important to LePage than even his hospital bill.

Any connections ?
Well, ultimately who makes money selling alcohol in Maine is a common thread to connect the two, I guess.

Still lol that LePage is worried about the Irish vote, and proud to see the Holiday being a little political, like is at its roots in America.

Cardpuff48 • 11 years ago

You're absolutely correct but as an 'Irishperson' I love the idea. It is more symbolic or sentimental than anything else. I wouldn't be caught dead at a bar, period, but will certainly be celebrating w/friends and family. Colcannon on the menu and no green beer but lots 'o Moosehead on tap. Happy St. Paddy's Day all!

Gotta love someone calling others stupid who thinks Irish is a race.

gsgofer • 11 years ago

You mean they aren't ? LOL As an Irishman, I think they should be. Maybe we can open the bars early on Bastille Day too.

Cardpuff48 • 11 years ago

Are you serious? Who are the "Frenchies"? Please elaborate.
Do you realize that many of our native Mainers are of Irish/French descent and have been instrumental in building this state/country? I hope that you're being sarcastic, otherwise you're a fool.

Guest • 11 years ago
Cardpuff48 • 11 years ago

You might want to brush up on your sarcasm - so well veiled. I guess your 11 dislikes didn't get it either. We must be idiots. Now, that's sarcasm. By the way it is not a 'racist action'. Perhaps you meant stereotypical? Hard to know what you mean.

Fennis • 11 years ago

The amazing irony you display calling someone racist while being racist yourself. Classic.

There are already laws on the books for that. The issue is selective enforcement.

The LePage administration decided to reward one of the Carlson enablers with a shiny new cushy job.

Henderson bobby • 11 years ago

hris Almy Said the law did not include punishment. So Penobscot county's DA is an out right liar if that is true. I hate liars

Dptydawg • 11 years ago

...and the backlash from the Left about not supporting small business would have carried on for the next 6 years if he didn't sign it

johnwalloftext • 11 years ago

You think LePage is going to get re-elected and that's funny.

timjy • 11 years ago

Not doubt about it.Already working on it and it looks greeeat.Emily the cain mutineer will run for 2nd district and lose.Removing a big problem in augusta. Then Michaud will lose in his bid for gov.Maine will be back on the right track then.Lepage, house and senate 2014.Thanks to the overspending and stupidity of the Dem leaders.

pbmann • 11 years ago

And then Timjy woke up....

Let me guess, a post of yours from 5 months ago would have begun "When Oblamer and the Sodomites get flushed in November..."

feingold-in-2016 • 11 years ago

Ah yes, shame PPH shut it's comments down before the election, I really wish I could have gotten tomuchbs's reaction - that was his line.

quark • 11 years ago

tomuchbs has had many different IDs. When =ever one makes a complete azz of himself (like the pre-election predictions) he just invents a new ID and reboots.

This could be tomuchbs reincarnate.

johnwalloftext • 11 years ago

I hope poor Tom BS is OK. It was a tough winter for him.

MaineProgressive20 • 11 years ago

Don't forget Cutler splitting the vote even further. Can't wait.

quark • 11 years ago

Yeah, just like King did.

How's Senator Sorry Charlie working out for you?

FELT • 11 years ago

I agree, the governor has a strong presence on social networks; and now has a great issue to embarrass the Democrats with. He is being credited with opening new job opportunities in all sections of the State, and is draining the DHHS swamp of freeloaders.

Dptydawg • 11 years ago

6 years...meaning the next time St. Patrick's Day falls on a Sunday genius!
