For NYE the actual night... Are there any plans being made for a different setup, something as dope as the 360 stage? Vague answers are extremely welcome. :D SO much love.

Phillip Irwin • 10 years ago

Lorin, if you were to teach a workshop at any Transformational festival. What would your topic be and what would you try to teach us? Also have you ever thought about doing this?

LORIN • 10 years ago

hey Phillip! i think if i was gonna teach something, i would do it in another context...maybe at a school. or maybe like i do in everyday life, trying to get people to think critically, trying to prioritize health and communication and clarity and creativity. I have a LOT to say/share, but would need to find a good context to do that in.

right off the bat, read "A People's History Of The United States"

some topics i would discuss would be

Optimizing Your Personality from a Self-Critical Perspective

Managing Empathy in a Society of Self Preservation

Using Stress/Worry as a Motivator

Balancing One's Passion VS One's Career

those are just off the top of my head :)

KKM • 10 years ago

Ted Talk?!

Eric Folcik • 10 years ago

Yes Lorin, you need to get on a TED Talk for sure!

MF • 10 years ago

Could you elaborate further on "Optimizing your Personality from a Self-Critical Perspective"? That seems so interesting

Gaby • 10 years ago

Last year I read a lot of Zinn's "A People's History of the United States" because of my U.S. history teacher! He's a lot like what you described your characteristics as a teacher would be like! He's REAL with his students; he truly tries to prepare us for the real world and inspire us everyday. And he reads us the number of deaths in Afghanistan everyday as well! Anyway, my point is that I'd imagine you being the type of highly educate U.S. history teacher he is :)

Gaby • 10 years ago

i don't know if anyone asked, but i have been wanting to say: i think it is annoying when people (esp young/new fans) make over-riding claims to an artist about "their roots"...i saw people whining to Excision the other day, and people do it to me all the time. It's frustrating because nobody knows my roots better than me, and I am always sticking to them, because thats reflex. if it looks like im not, then it simply means YOU DONT UNDERSTAND MY ROOTS YET. at least not fully :) and that's fine, but when you assume i have somehow strayed from my roots, and that YOU need to tell me to come back to my true path or something, can you see how that would make me feel weird?

like i said before, i am well aware that i have made a very wide spectrum of music in the past, and my natural wish is to continue just making whatever i want. i also hope to make more death metal soon, i actually have been trying to develop a live band for almost ten years, i just never have the time. and downtempo or sparkling/magical/ethereal stuff; I LOVE IT...basically all electronic music from the 1990's....i love that stuff. there is a vast universe to explore, and that's what artists do: we stay true to our roots, and constantly develop new ideas, and mix old ideas together, and remix our ideas, and keep pushing our ideas further and further...but we do what we want....

that goes for musical style, but also philosophy. i definitely have not "lost my way" even if i appear to change, or to take a different course than you expected :)

Jonathan • 10 years ago

Back sometime in 08 you were working on a new album. You had asked what we wanted to hear. I had told you to play what you like. Because in that end that is what matters most. Don't let it bother you that people are going to be judgmental. You are not going to make everyone happy. That should never be your goal. Just enjoy life and do what is right for you.

nadsley • 10 years ago

freeeeeeestyyyyyle muuuuuuuusssiiiiiiiic

Lauren • 10 years ago

"...downtempo or sparkling/magical/ethereal stuff; I LOVE IT..." All I wanted to hear :) You answered my question, and sorry it was annoying. Looking forward to seeing you next week!

bongo_dude • 10 years ago

Never doubted you man, never stop doing what you do

Cameron • 10 years ago

this is why we love you

LiquidPace • 10 years ago

I'll play the bass for a change of pace...

shoobie • 10 years ago

I'm glad you said this, and I assume it's in response to a comment I saw. It's not fair to tell a musician, or in fact ANYONE, that they're not following the right path. Every human has the right to change something about themselves or what they produce. Just because it's not what YOU like, doesnt make it right to tell someone they're doing it wrong.

TUT • 10 years ago

What's your plans for NYE??

LORIN • 10 years ago
