All the oil companies with depots in Lagos and the filling stations should be ordered to operate the most safest means of transporting their product. It's hightime the government comes up with a lasting solution to this problem.

Angry man • 10 years ago

@The man that wanted to save his Danfo,Thank God that you were able to save your life.

sali • 10 years ago

always knew kirikiri was a time bomb. the roads are so bad yet all the tankers load their products there. people living around the area are at risk and would recommend government relocating them. the place also seems like a den of criminals as you see overcrowding on the streets with young men and women with nothing to do but getting high all day.

As we mourn the souls of the departed may God give the families the fortitude to bear the loss and protect always those alive.

Its a pity that we have a government that pay lip service to the safety of lives ... most especially. Over the years, there has been untold horror stories on this type of accidents still they sit dumb.. doing Nothing!!! Suggestions?

a. there should be a return to rail for inter state movement of this commodity ( this i say in sincere sadness.. because i know most of our current and past leaders, senators/reps have tankers and will very well move against this in the interest of dr pockets

b. ALL Tanker drivers should be RETRAINED AND CERTIFY!!!!

c. Security shd be increase so that they can move in the dead of the night to minimize causalities and that in non residential areas.

D. The crazy of petrol stations everywhere shd be scraped!!!! ditto!!

c. Trucks for this product shoud be given unannounced periodic checks every three months.

THE NIGERIAN VALUE FOR LIFE IS ALMOST TENDING THE THE NEGATIVES

ARE THIS THINGS REALLY HARD?

What do you expect when Road Safety Corps don't do anything anymore beside checking vehicle particulars and collect bribes.

Angry man • 10 years ago

Thanks for this comment.
It's just a big joke.
The chaos on the roads is caused by touts who drive these commercial buses and tankers.
It is equally condoned by uniformed touts (LASTMA, VIO, FRSC, etc)....
Some uniformed touts also carry guns and therefore called "policemen" ...
They see a jeep and stop it....
But they see terrible rickety buses, changing lanes dastardly, picking up passengers at round abouts...
What do they do...? IGNORE!!!
Because one group can line their pockets, while the other can't
More tears and bloodshed is to be expected while this continues.

I suggest all tanker drivers be re-trained. You may not believe this statement but it is true, some of these drivers are sent to kill for the sake of benefits of insurance(i,e. the believe that new truck would be bought for them). that is why they need re-training. Most tankers owners are greedy and selfish in ideas. But i still believe is a product of what is attainable in Nigeria society. Now, we need to change.

Susan • 10 years ago

Most of the tankers are not fit not fit to be on the road in the first place. What a tragic waste of lives. Nothing works properly in Nigeria after all these years of independence says a lot about the type of bad elements in possession of power.

Swagalicious Vivian • 10 years ago

kai!!! Not happy about this...something should be done to that road...

Jerry • 10 years ago

It is very very unfortunate the way people are losing their lives and properties in Nigerian because of lack of adequate measures and proper orientation. Many of these big lorries that are plying Nigerian roads today are not fit to be on the road any more. Most of those lorries the last time you see something like that in civilized society will be about twenty or thirty years ago. I don't know why the government should allow such vehicles to be on the road talkless of carrying such dangerous substance.

vicktor • 10 years ago

this is bad reporting. this incident happened in my street. atleast a hundred people died there are a lot of mallams sleeping under those trucks and insome vehicles. we should have good reporting in this country

ITS QUITE UNFORTUNATE.SUCH A TRAGIC INCIDENT,
MY CONDOLENCE GOES TO THE FAMILIES OF THE DEAD AND THE INJURED.MAY GOD GIVE THEM THE GRATITUDE TO BEAR THIS GREAT LOSS.I'M REALLY SHORT OF WORDS BUT JUST WISHED THIS HAD NEVER OCCURRED.

Sunbare • 10 years ago

God Almighty please deliver us from monumental fire disasters. The nation safety procedure is nil. Most of these tanker drivers acts under the influence of alcohol and drugs; the park is fully of women selling paraga and igbo openly and this is what most of them takes daily. God will give the families of those who lost loved ones and properties fortitudes to bear the loss. Poverty has blinded our eyes the grace to do the right thing; in the process we are creating more poverty stricken people; imaging the old man wailing publicly yesterday because of the loss of a bus. God will help us to think right........God bless Nigeria..
