so, should we look the other way n pretend that kiir never massacred the nuer in juba? if in 2007 I had access to arms, I would have gone to the bush myself coz the 'duly elected govt' was using govt forces to kill my people who were simply protesting at a botched election....I do not expect anything less from a country where arms are all over.African leaders must embrace consultation since most african countries are just but a conglomeration of tribes who hate each other to the core.

Salva Kiir made the same mistake Raila Odinga made in ODM.He sacked his comrades in arms,William Arap Ruto,& that party crushed in elections like crisps. Now the SPLM is in trouble.

I am happy that Kenya has not taken any side in the conflict. For Museveni, this is his usual 'cup of tea'.He is a war monger, and always finds himself in thicket of wars.

JN • 10 years ago

Is M7 afraid the same uprising could happen in Uganda, due to lack of democracy space and intolerance of any opposition?

nduklu • 10 years ago

Remember Museveni is a staunch believer in the power of the gun. he ascended to power by the gun, he has lived by it and mostly likely he might be removed by it. There is not even a drop of peaceful resolution of conflict trait in Museveni. Museveni and Kiir are birds of a feather. Kiir may be slowly and surely evolving into a terrible dictator mentored by Museveni. My condolences to families of the ugandan soldier felled in SS.

..."Mrs Mohammed (Kenyan Foreign Minister) on Friday denied claims that Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad) was on the side of the government.

She also defended the presence of Ugandan military in South Sudan, saying the move had been sanctioned by Igad following a meeting on December 15" (Daily Nation, January 17, 2014)

So folks, wake up and sniff the glue. Stop blaming this as an M7 thing, it was an IGAD decision. Besides the stakes are higher for the region if SS crumbles. For Uganda in particular, SS acts as a buffer against the LRA. People forget history, but Ugandans don't. For that matter, even the great lakes region recalls. When Mali was in flames, the AU as usual just talked. NO BITE! The French had to scramble troops, yet Nigeria with the largest force in the region just looked on as massacres where going on... The failing of the AU in Mali has informed the direction of IGAD members.

The UPDF and Burundi took the burden as the core of AMISOM, and then other nations like Sierra Leone and Kenya followed suit...and much as there are challenges, SOMALIA has charted a direction towards stability.

It is high time African countries provided solutions to African problems, Military interventions may not provide the perfect solutions to ideological problems, but can act as a deterrent against further chaos, in this case avert a possible genocide.

Not on M7s watch. That's courage!

War is not the answer!

Arthur Osotsi • 10 years ago

The World knows Garang' would have said, "Brothers let us sit and discuss rather than allow for our people to kill each other." He said it to Al Bashir and South Sudan was born, the baby Salva Kiir is now trying to kill. Macher is educated, friendly to Western Countries and not China to fullstop. Museveni won't help in the situation.

Why cannot the African Countries ask, why has the United States of America closed their embassy in Juba. Is it not to say "We have no diplomatic relationships until further notice"? But watch your steps guys we rule the World"

Arthur Osotsi • 10 years ago

One thing is clear Yoweri Museveni troops forgot the bush war immediately they started to eat the Kabaka cake and soups.

That is why even now Museveni is not sure when Joseph Konny may knock on the door to say change of guard in Uganda governance.

Two, Uganda armies in SS may have thought they went for Muchaka Muchaka drills neat Juba.

Three, Museveni should not have taken sides in SS tribal fights. That will not bring a solution in SS. Sudanese know Museveni's official jet killed their best leader to give them the remnants in the name of Salva Kiir. It is possible for the armies of Salva Kiir to revenge on the troops sent by Museveni because of the death of Garang'. Going by the cry of his wife.

Time to divide SS into 2 nations Again?

Wanjala Kandawala • 10 years ago

Museveni is always fast to enter into war zones. But the effect of his troops is always dismal.Look at the case of Somalia. He was there long be4 KDF entered. But is the KDF that have quelled the manace. Now he is in SS before he even understands the nature of the conflict. What A SHAME

Jack Otieno • 10 years ago

The problem is that Museveni ain't realizing that he's fighting battle hardened veterans. These guys can fight for 10 straight years without backing down. He's just opened another pandora's box for Uganda

kiplagat muge • 10 years ago

The true friends of South Sudan are those who have NOT send troops to fight Sudanese over their internal disputes. Sending peace makers and negotiators is realy being friendly and that is Kenya.

LeaningTowerOfPISA • 10 years ago

Some actions have got consequences. The only successful revolutionary known in the world is Fidel Castro. Why? He never sacked his comrades once he got to the seat of power. He kept them till today because it is them who knew why they were fighting more than anyone else and they have achieved everything they promised during their revolutionary fight, majorly Free education and better health care. Museveni and the likes of Salva Kiir who were in a hurry to sack those with whom they had fought the bloody revolutionary wars appear to have been interested only in getting the seat of power. What has Museveni achieved since he came to power in Uganda? If one talks of peace, he Museveni was the one who was causing war to get to the seat of Power. Now that he sees his time is up, he has resorted to war tactics again to intimidate Ugandans that he is the father and mother of peace and hence his son who he wants to impose on Ugandans. Good luck for him as more blood is being shed.

TimuTimu • 10 years ago

Machar was not fully in the revolutionary fight for S.Sudan. In fact, the seasoned Guerrilla fighter troops fought alongside Khartoum government against Kirr and Garang. So, their bad blood comes from decades. Nevertheless, his sacking was ill advised and the involvement of foreign troops against a country's internal affairs where diplomatic options have not been exploited is wrong. The Ugandan forces should not be fighting alongside Kirr. They should have been neutral.

LeaningTowerOfPISA • 10 years ago

Museveni was the cause of all problems of Uganda before and after Obote and Amin. Now he knows his time is up and has resorted to all kinds of wars with the neighbouring countries instead of working hard to restore peace. He is attacking every neighbouring country. Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, DRC Congo, everywhere. It is good that our president Uhuru Kenyatta and the prime minister of Ethiopia snubbed his idea of sending more troops to support Salva Kiir. We want peace, not war.

Odhiambo Owino • 10 years ago

What astounds me most about this world is the inability of force to establish anything, in the end, the mind conquers the gun.

rontos • 10 years ago

UPDF is an expansionist machine used to aid M7 to destabilize the EA region. It has not been able to capture Kony after 28 years of Museveni being in power, the stole migingo from Kenya, made incursions into DRC and Rwanda and into Kenya allegedly chasing pokot raiders and into South Sudanese territory. Someone has to stop Museveni!

Okusimba Okunani • 10 years ago

M7 is fanning violence to keep a fellow dictator in power. Its really sad that he has taken sides in such an emotive issue. History will judge him & Ugandans harshly.

Evywaff • 10 years ago

M7 intention is right, but sending in his troops to S.Sudan is a wrong option. He's only fueling the conflict.Okay, now let's say that some other country that is friendly to Machar or does not like Museve decides to send in their troops too, what will happen? What if Kiir or the SPLA loses the fight against the rebels Machar becomes the president? What would be Uganda's relationship with S.Sudan? They should have given dialogue a chance first as they weigh other options. You can not be holding a gun in the other and then negotiating with the other.

Mr Hypothesis • 10 years ago

I tell you when Museveni sniff war, the Godfather in him, cannot let him resist, Ask his neighbours on howM7 love to be part on the sound of the Guns.

With all the misguided decisions Uhuru has been making in the last few weeks, I hope he doesn't decide to send our troops there. We have enough problems as it is like al shabab, marsabit and baragoi crises etc.

George • 10 years ago

Personally I would be willing to fight for the rebels in S. Sudan just because Museveni has decided to take sides in this war. He did the same here in 2007 and he must not be allowed to try and create some bogus imperialism within the region.

"...[Uganda's Parliament on Tuesday endorsed the decision to send troops to South Sudan, with the defence minister saying the army had help avert "genocide".]..."

You gotta feel sorry for the average Ugandan tax payer, just like us here in Kenya, he has to contend with an ever increasing difficult day, toiling for hers-and-his families daily bread. But the Ugandan Tax payer can only dream or read in foreign and Kenyan papers of ideas like transparency and accountability - in Kenya we moan off "Mpigs", in Uganda you dare moan of the UPDF in parliament....endorsing their own wars, campaigns and expeditions all-over the great lakes region.

A word to the wise Mz M7 and Ugandans - Despots and Rebels alike, like to return favors!!!

jdugna1960 • 10 years ago

How many?? Instead of peacefull negotiations, Museveni took his troops to traumatize S. Sudanese people!

Museveni of late has been behaving like a East African head boy. He came to power by the gun, ......will he leave by the gun?

PanAfricaForLife • 10 years ago

Kenya doesn't fight rebels. She fights the real tough fight--Dog fight. We fight a real war not tribal clashes. So what am saying here is that when you see/ hear that Kenya deployed army, know that it is life and death. I know Kenya army loots and tenants have done horrors but they can do a good job when it comes to a tough confrontation.

Yusuf Simba • 10 years ago

Hey which war you fought as Kenyan you have invaded Somalia and many of your soldiers died for nothing you got the pay .Your soldiers are looters annd thieves of westgate shopping mall shame on you Kenyans and KIpngeno Kirui

loxx • 10 years ago

Yeah,Uganda is South Sudans largest trading partner plus M7 has helped SPLA for like forever...so interests had to play a role in the decision to move into SS.He is a politician and thts what politicians do,protect and serve their interests

cnjuguna • 10 years ago

I like M7 is an African hero the battle should have been done at the ballot not with guns. Its just normal for the status quo to prevail, it a shame S Susan's should come to this, Machar should be made a sacrificial lamb if peace is to prevail.M7 is a smart man he keeps his troops battle hardened not unlike its neighbors soldiers that last so war in 1960s and just get fat and greedy in the barracks.

Alfotula • 10 years ago

This has nothing to do with Machar. Machar can die, but this journey will not stop. You obviously don't know what this is all about.

Ken • 10 years ago

1. You should join military to say that.
2. M7 is just a dictator with no agenda.
3. I am sure you do not know the difference between war and peace!

Okusimba Okunani • 10 years ago

Shame on u!!!!! You need to look yourself in the mirror as u say this nonsense. M7 is is rogue, period!

Evywaff • 10 years ago

Cnjuguna,in was there is nothing like battle hardened. It's about discipline and better equipment. An example is the KDF that people thought would not last on a battle field. But they proved every one wrong when they entered the fray in Somali. The KDF never lost more than 10 personnel in Somalia.People used to think that UDF are better and well trained. But KDF proved otherwise. So there is no such a thing as battle hardened in war. It's about skill, discipline and equipment.

odhise edward • 10 years ago

You go nowhere with this -even the mighty US did not succeed in Vietnam, Iraq etc - We are too poor to waste resources!!!!

thuthru • 10 years ago

The hardened Ugandan soldiers will melt like butter in the swamps and heat of South Sudan. Ask Bashir if you want free advice. This to me is an invasion. But that is just me...a mere Thuthru.

Thankless • 10 years ago

You think war is a joke? You think involving yourself in war all the time with your troops getting killed in foreign soil is a tactic of keeping yourself battle hardened? You sound like a kid, need some growing up.

jura john • 10 years ago

cnjuguna you are right.M7 knows how to keep his boys fit by deploying them anywhere there is chaos no wonder why he even put them in migingo island in kenya just to see if kenya would do anything.Unfortunately Kenya has just been quiet under the guise of mediation.Look at our boys here only 5-8 al-shabab militants took them days to bring down.Surely M7 once said that our army is just a carrier like any other.

nguka • 10 years ago

With Migingo safe under his arms and having been taught a lesson by Tz which hit his M23 to shamelessly leave DRC running back home where else could he direct his misguided efforts to and divert attention from the onslaught on his will to have his son replace him as dictator.

odhise edward • 10 years ago

SPOT ON !!!!

oguda • 10 years ago

I agree with u nguka tha m7 is diverting his shame to south Sudan but he will be ashamed.

Majongdit • 10 years ago

Kenya what we South Sudanese did to you is a misgiving. From our crisis in South Sudan, we will be able to identify the true friends from real enemies. The motion against ICC Kenya cases at the UNSC was seconded by South Sudan. Uganda has forces deployed in Juba, afew hundreds though, but we saw the good will from Uganda and its people. Respect you, Uganda!

Okusimba Okunani • 10 years ago

Kenya will never take sides in the Sudan crisis. Y encourage a fight between brothers. Uganda is your number 1 enemy! Focus!!!!!
