Very very poor speeds and un reliable. They are crap servers around the world. DONT BUY THEM. I AM STUCK WITH THEM. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO STREAM AND TECH SUPPORT IS USELESS.

Boris Danilin • 4 years ago

Worst customer support I've ever seen. I've left ~10 emails complaining that lifetime VPN subscription isn't working. I've never seen it working even single time! I paid full price. What I'm keep getting in return is "we raised your concern to our customer support and they will contact you soon". And so it's been more than a year now. No one ever contacted me, I can't get my money back.
If you want something working, don't even think of PureVPN.

AdSwagOnline • 5 years ago

Excellent customer service and support as usual, don't often have to
contact them to resolve issues but the few times that i have they have
always resolved the issues fast and efficiently, had Vladimir Nabov
resolve an issue that i was having for a few days, took him 10 minutes
to fix something that had been bothering me. top notch service all
round.

Today, pure vpn connected me with a Bucharest Romania server even though I chose Miami and twitter locked my account, demanding a phone number.
I just renewed with pure vpn, not having any idea something like this could happen
when I changed the location to US, and checked the ip address it was one in Venezuela, even though I chose US.
Everyone online is checking ip addresses, not sure why, but if your ip address shows something like that and you are in the US it can get you in trouble.
I'm a person who places high value on privacy, but we can have none, because when we attempt to keep our privacy, online sites automatically think we are criminals, even though we are not doing anything criminal.
The problem is with their technology !
Today even had a problem with Disqus, with an account I created in 2016
With one browser, when I tried to sign in it said it couldn't sign me in, check what I put in (log in information)
What I put in was correct.
Then I tried to create a new account thinking they updated their technology/database or whatever & lost my information or it was over written or something and they said that email is already in use.
So which is it ? The credentials in your system or not ?
Then I thought maybe its the browser so switched browsers, and couldn't sign in, then tried to click on forgotten password and an email was sent to me with a link that I clicked on and got in.
Then they reminded me we check ip addresses. This is part of their TOS, and its part of every online site TOS. But not really understanding why its such a big deal, unless they are thinking people who try to hide their ip addresses are doing something illegal.
That's not the reason why I hide my ip address, I hide it because there are doxers out there and your physical safety can be in danger if you say something on twitter or any other platform someone doesn't like. Its called self protection. So wish they'd get off this idea everyone who tries to obscure their ip address is doing something wrong. And why do they want peoples location so badly ?
Now twitter is demanding my phone number, and I didn't have to give my phone number when opening that account, I don't have the founder of twitter phone number so no. If I lose the account, so be it.
They push everyone to be online, everything is done online, but when people get online & become accustomed to communicating online they traumatize them by slamming the door in their face so they can't express themselves anymore. One minute you're tweeting and the next boom, you have a message your account has been locked, and the thing is you didn't do anything. Then twitter says its due to automation but they offer automation rules, so if you're not supposed to be automating, not saying I was, but if its something your account could be locked for, why do they offer these rules about automation?
https://help.twitter.com/en....
VPN's are not illegal, and not everyone who uses them are committing crimes.
But what Pure VPN did today, this is cause for me to stop using them. Because I don't like when my account gets locked because dealing with twitter and their obscure, murky rules is whole nother can of worms, and all this technology & the ridiculous rules are very stressful.
They change the rules when they want to, and you have to sit hours to read their long list.
Could go on and on about their tech and how they are using it, mainly against people.
Now lets see if Disqus will allow this to post.

I have not used PureVPN for a long time, despite having a lifetime subscription. However what you describe is one of the issues I had with them as well. I would connect to the Sydney server, only to check my IP address and find that I was actually connected to a server in Karachi!

notyourchild • 4 years ago

have commented but Disqus marked it as spam.
Sorry about the very late response, didn't check my email in a while.
When I did today, saw you had commented and tried to sign into Disqus to respond but had problems.
Its not just Pure VPN, another VPN did it to me today, resulting in my twitter account being suspended again. May lose my twitter account over this because twitter has suspended me before for what they call automation. :-( Hopefully Disqus doesn't mark this as spam.
Side note; sure would like to figure out why I seem to be blacklisted on the internet.
emails not recognized, account comments marked as spam, many twitter suspensions, suspended accounts on youtube, on and on it goes and not the type of person to go around cyber harassing, bullying or just being a jerk on the internet.

Service is fine until its stops working or you have connection issues. Their customer service is not helpful. They are unable to diagnose the issues and will try get you to install the software or other equally unhelpful options. If you are a dev or need to use this for serious work then forget this service. Pay premium with another provider. Disappointed customer.

Hiroku • 5 years ago

I initially had a 2-year plan with PureVPN and it was excellent.
When the time for renewal I did not hesitate to continue with their service, in fact, I was so happy with the service that I purchased a lifetime subscription. To quote Pretty Woman, Big mistake, huge! It sucks, to say the least.
The connection speed is atrociously slow, there are issues connecting and it is constantly going offline and to add insult to injury, customer service is useless.
Last week I finally capitulated and purchased a new service - one that actually works, unlike PureVPN.

I use PureVPN on Windows and on Android. I am very satisfied, at the beginning I was having some problems on Android, so I contacted the support via livechat and Lorenzo solved the problem. He was very kind and competent.

VPN is amazing and the people that work are amazing. Zander is the best help i have ever had with any laptop issues. He is very smart and very friendly to work with. If i ever need help again i hope it's him

I agree, "the people that work are amazing". On the other hand, the people that don't work, less so.

PureVPN is a great provider, the technical support is just reactive, competent and friendly.
Vladimir Nabov was able to help me and it was a pleasure to be helped by !
Thank you again.

Top of the line VPN service. The support you receive from them is 110%. It's the kind of service you would want in anything you do. I highly recommend using there service.

I've been getting frustrated since I was having trouble accessing a particular website (that actually does not need a US server but I'm also using another that needs one). They have been very quick with responses. Excellent customer service, accommodating, patient, and skillful! I'm really happy that it is now working very well and hopefully, consistently without issues in the future. I'm very satisfied. Thank you PureVPN! :)

Oh dear, a few months ago I had come to a gentleman's agreement with PureVPN that I would stop publishing my honest findings about their service on this page, as long as they stopped their malpractice of posting fake comments. For a few months this truce was in place, but now it seems that sadly they have not been able to help themselves :-(
If you want to know what I think about PureVPN, read my comments below.

Stephers K • 5 years ago

I have used PureVPN for the last 2 years and they have been great, I never had any problems and would recommend. Due to health reasons I am unable to use the service so have had to cancel renewal this time. I dealt with an extremely helpful and efficient senior agent Vladimir who was very knowledgeable, polite, processed everything extremely quickly and actually given a score out of 10, I would definitely score 10. If my health improves I will certainly use Oregon again and would want to deal with this man for everything I needed. I would recommend.

Hello everyone,
This will be a really honest review about my experience. Last month I bought PURE Vpn with dedicated IP and DDoS protection for my gaming server. Then I figured vodafone users were blocked. I contacted their support wich is real bas as they do not seem to understand what your problem is and give you pre made answers.

But then, the magic started to happen one of the support agents transfered me to Mr Vladimir. And this was the moment when I had a person who knew what he was doing to assist me on that same day I was given a different service and it worked, then nightmare 2 started.

Now I had to much latency for a gaming server. With work between me and Pure VPN in 2 weeks the problem was solved for my original services I got given a free month because I was unable to use the one I paid for and got 10 days bonus.
I was given a discount on my account upgrade invoice.
For the record I contacted ExpressVPN and they did not have a service for servers with port forwarding. Other VPN provideres had ports but you could not choose wich and were very few. Could not found anyone better selling Server VPN services.

Stephane Carreira.

PureVPN works well on Windows, and that's about it. On Mac, iOS, and Android the speeds are terrible and disconnections are constant. Even worse, it often doesn't reconnect leaving you at risk until you notice you've been disconnected.

You also never get to pick which server to connect to. At most, you get to pick a country and view the ping time. WIth other VPNs, you can select the exact server you'd like based on various criteria.

I got a lifetime subscription very cheap a year ago, which is pretty much the only reason I still use it. It's mediocre, but not bad enough for me to want to shell out more money for something else right now.

Horrible service detected as spyware by Malwarebytes! Password Stealer!

Chris Stevenson • 5 years ago

obviously purevpn has paid off any of its good reviews. I went from express vpn to pure vpn just because of yearly price. I read several article reviews of the best vpns. Pure vpn is generally on there, 3 or 4 most of the time. I can't figure out how. I have a 150mbps connection. I'm lucky to get 30 on purevpn.

Derek Currie • 6 years ago

I give PureVPN an "F" for its failure to:
• Protect users from WebRTC leakage of its user's source IP address.
• Tell the truth to its users about logging their activities on the net. It's been proven that PureVPN lied and that it indeed provides their user logs to surveillance authorities upon request.
• Protect users from surveillance maniacal China. PureVPN is located in Hong Kong. This helps explain the two failure points above.

Great marketing does not equate to a great service. I recommend avoiding PureVPN and looking elsewhere for far better VPN services.

Marcelo Concha • 5 years ago

which one do you recommend?

Derek Currie • 5 years ago

That's a tough question and the answer keeps changing. It depends in part upon what you require from a VPN service. Each of them as its own limitations depending upon your needs and perspective.

For my needs, I'm entirely happy with ProXPN, a service out of The Netherlands. Their speed is fine. I don't need to connect to exit nodes in countries outside of those they provide. They have a great security reputation in all respects. They're not part of the 'Five Eyes' country pact. I bought into an excellent, for real, 'for life' Premium membership deal at the right time.

Last week I would have said NordVPN was fine, except they've been recently found to have a security flaw. Then again, they rapidly repaired the flaw, so maybe they belong on the recommended list again. ExpressVPN is probably leader of the pack this month and they're in the midst of a marketing campaign that may provide decent deals.

If you peruse the various VPN review sites, you'll find there are a few that continually pop up to the top of their lists. Look them over, see if they have exit nodes where you need them, see if their speed meets your needs, be certain they are NOT based in 'Five Eyes' countries, be certain they have a spotless security record, be sure the price is what you're willing to pay, verify that they're professional and not some fly-by-night temporary money grab (which I've seen!), the usual shop-around skills.

As an aside, I'm unaware of a perfect VPN protocol. All of them have been compromised at one time or another. OpenVPN still gets my vote as it is open source and in my experience is as good as the alternatives. VyprVPN's protocol is proprietary. Some people prefer IPSEC, but I've never been convinced its any better than OpenVPN and some people claim it is much worse. Then there are those who claim the best solution (if you don't need speed) is simply Tor Browser. Perhaps for you uses, Tor is fine.

ucmass • 6 years ago

Cancelling is a nightmare with PureVPN. I could not connect in Beijing. Will look for alternatives when I am back in China.

Alejandro • 6 years ago

PC Mag deleted 3 or 4 of my comments because I dared tell the truth about PureVPN. So, you can really be quite sure not to trust their reviews. They are obviously getting paid to help sell this garbage and do not care about the truth.

Pure VPN is pure garbage and is all kinds of bad. I highly recommend trying something else.

I have been using something else even though I have 2 years left of PureVPN because it just did not work even after countless hours with tech support.

I now use another one. It is SLOW but at least I can connect to it.

Samuel Smith • 6 years ago

How can this be EDITOR CHOICE when it drops my speed from consistent 50Mbps without PureVPN to mere consistent 2Mbps on my Android TV ???
Since I stupidly paid 2 year special price subscription based on your rating would you return my $$$, because PureVPN doesn't want to return a penny... NOT great service. Would someone please reply? !!

Stan O'Brian • 5 years ago

I do share your concern. I cannot find any VPN simply because of the loss of the Mbps is not acceptable. I did try out Nordvpn using almost all (have a lot) of the US connections, installed on my router and the 130 Mbps connection did go to 6 Mbps. I cannot comprehend that how can anyone get by with that! So - unfortunately - I do not have a VPN because of the loss of speed. If I do not install the VPN on my router it has no meaning at all.

Stan O'Brian • 5 years ago

Thank you for your toughts Teddy! I wish that either you or I could say something better about this problem. I have four computers, two TVs and some other stuff on the ASUS RT-AC66U Router, which I have ca. two years or longer time and shall state that it is the best router I have ever had. The loss from 130 Mbps to 6 Mbps renders the VPN on the router useless. I wonder when someone comes up with a usable product.

Rowland Lee • 6 years ago

PureVPN was fantastic up to a few months ago. It now disconnects a few times every hour. The stability is better on a laptop versus an Ipad. Speed is also an issue. With PureVPN download speed drops from 28 to 15 Mbps. It is better than GoVPN @ 11 Mbps... but GoVPN was free.

Hi. I have been a very dissatisfied customer, only having had it for 4 days. I have talked to them for over 3 hours re the BBC, but the main fault was that it
S l o w e d down my laptop (A good, 16 RAM Lenovo laptop) so badly, I could only have one or to windows open!
I need to know: How do I get all the software off, I deleted the 1 or 2 downloads i saw in 'downloads' but it is still in there! What to look for, what to find/where to find!?
Thank you
Please reply asap if you know!

SugarSyncFAIL • 6 years ago

Go into Control Panel and select 'Programs and Features'.
It should bring up the list of everything installed on your laptop.
If you need to organise installed programs by date (rather than by name), click at the top of the column called 'Installed On'. You may need to click it twice, in case the list is ordered in reverse.
You should then see PureVPN near the top of the list, and you can choose to uninstall it from there.
If you see any other programs that were installed on the same date, if you suspect that they may be related to PureVPN, you can uninstall those too. (If unsure, let me know the names of the programs by replying here.)

Yikes, that was bad luck! And you're welcome, happy to assist.
If you have a long subscription to PureVPN, you may find it works better on your next device if you want to try it again, as it's possible it just wasn't compatible with something or other on your Lenovo. But there are much better VPNs out there!

I was PureVPN's #1 fan! On this page, I was sticking up for them whenever I noticed people posting denigrating reviews. Those posts are no longer here, because all posts get wiped when the review is updated.

Anyway as I was saying, I was their best customer - because a good customer is both a satisfied customer, plus one who has a good history of Disqus comments. Because when you see so many raving reviews here from people who have only made one comment (the one raving about how fantastic PureVPN is!) you can't help but be cynical as to whether they're genuine or not, right?

But I digress... I say that I "was" PureVPN's #1 fan in the past tense, because in the last year or so their service - both in terms of the VPN's performance and their technical support - has just gone right down the toilet. It's a great shame. The reason I signed up was because they came in the #1 spot in a review of VPN's by a well respected Australian consumer publication - and at the time, that was a fair review, too.

It's a real shame that each update of their Windows program got worse and worse (freezing the PC repeatedly); that their server performance got worse and worse (reducing my 100Mbps cable connection's speed to the point where I may as well have been using dialup; and to top it all off, their 24/7 tech support people were either so overworked or so uninterested (maybe both) that all they would do to help is copy/paste things from elsewhere on their own website - one of those suggestions, believe it or not, was to disable my firewall!!

The whole FBI revelation (that they are dishonest about the logs they keep, and kowtow to FBI requests - despite not even being a US-based provider!) really stuck the final nail in PureVPN's coffin. But I had stopped using them long before that, anyway.

I really do hope they can manage to get their act together one day soon, and once again become one of the top VPN providers!

I've been using PureVPN for some time now and have had zero issues! Their customer service is outstanding - thank you Jade! I don't think I've ever said a vendors customer service was outstanding but PureVPN truly is.
