  • Maria W.

Few VPN services are providing secure access to hulu from outside US. According to user reviews and some Industry analysis i identified few vpn services to unblock Hulu and allow you to access from anywhere in the world.

I only jut found this article now, and they're blocking even Americans! I live in NY, and they're convinced I use a proxy, even though I don't. Then I tried using a proxy and still couldn't watch. I emailed them and all, but they don't seem to care. Apparently, my IP is in a proxy range. CBS and Fox are convinced the same, and YouTube gave me a similar error earlier today. Well, it's back to the illegal stuff.

  • Cj42@netzero.com

I am in Washington state and use a school issued computer as my kid is in homeschool-Hulu worked up till a few days ago and it is giving us the message about IP not being in USA. Ridiculous!  Does anyone know how to work this out-as Hulu will not answer me at all.

  • Bethnelson36

Yeah! It is me too! I live in Minnesota, and it keeps saying, oh, your not in america! Well, yes I am! It was working 20 minutes ago! UgH

VPN is the safer option to hide your entity because it encrypts your online activities. I have figured out some of the possible and safer VPN options to unblock Hulu easily. Source: VPNs for accessing Hulu

  • Shaun Stevin

I use PUREVPN and had a few issues on Hulu Friday night with shows being blocked and the message described above being displayed, but from Saturday night it has been fine. I just assumed that PureVPN did something to fix it, or Hulu realised that they were cutting off too many people and put things back the way it was.

Have you ever wondered why many
    people get USA
proxy service? This is not being paranoid or
obsessive about your security, but the truth is that giving away your IP
address is like giving away your home address to a complete stranger! We don't
do that; so why should we let anyone have our IP address?

I think Hulu's just trying to go viral with this thing. Tons of people are trying to watch abroad, and when Hulu eventually does go internation It'll explode...With money. Why do you think their logo is green?

  • sgree

    ditto

  • falconcy

All Hulu has managed to do is encourage what the content abusers call "piracy" - piss off your user base and they will resort to P2P in order to watch the programming. Let them watch it legally and you get rid of the need for P2P. Keep the user base happy and you might actually encourage them to buy DVD's of the series they are watching. What incentive is there to buy it if you got it from P2P? Eventually you lose the user base completely.

Attempting to criminalize it by secretly rolling out draconian laws globally at the behest of the content abusers or attempting to apply the "american" DMCA worldwide will not work either.

Content abusers need to understand that making their products available to a worldwide audience will actually make them far more revenue than the their current litigation based business model ever will.

  • SarahZigler

How I'm gona watch my episodes!!! Hulu please be gentle...

  • Ann Moroz

I use personal usa vpn ( http://vpn-account.com ) to watch Hulu when I am abroad. It works fine.

  • Jessica Taylor

Yeah, Proxies don't work... I also messed around with Hotspot Shield and Hulu always detected I was not in the US.

I have now set up my home (in Europe) with a DD-RWT compatible Wi-FI router with a VPN account from www.VPNTelevision.com (Strong VPN).

Now I have a US IP address in my home in Germany since all my internet traffic goes through my DD-RWT router that is connect to the VPN service in the USA.

I found the instructions on how to set up my router from here: http://free-internet-tv-vpn.bl...

    Best of luck!

  • MLM Network Marketing Blog

Man it is getting harder and harder to view these shows online, but I know that these networks overseas got to make their money so I will just keep trying to find alternatives.

  • Dackl80

That's pretty much what it comes down to.

A huge chunk of the 'media industry' - not just TV, but video games, music and movies too is organized around a model of physical-media content distribution.

Since until recently you had to distribute (cds/dvds/bds, or (yeah, I'm that old) video tapes/cartridges)), that meant there had to be an entire network of distributors & sub-distributors all around the world, and a licensing/contractual framework to go with it... Companies would compete for the contract to distribute physical product (as content was on physical media) in their region of the world - and the contracts would restrict them to distributing only in that area...

Well, the last few years have seen an explosion of legal online-content-distribution channels - Hulu, and so on... However the content being distributed is STILL distributed under the physical-product inspired contractual framework - so the license Hulu has for distribution ONLY applies to the USA - they are legally required to block outside access.

It will take a while (and probably a huge drop in physical media sales) for online-distribution to become the norm, and for the legal framework to be adapted to it beyond 'treating Hulu and Netflix like Blockbuster'....

Well does anyone have an answer to getting on the Hulu from outside the US now.

  • John Holmes

Google "VPN Television" and you should find some ways to unblock hulu.

  • Jack Wright

The best VPN (price and quality) I have found for accessing the US and UK shows abroad (BBC iPlayer and Hulu.com) is with http://vpntelevision.com – 55 USD a year. Hope this helps someone! Jack

  • Chris

They just increased their price to $78.66/year.

  • Erica

Not being able to access HULU and others really suck when you are stationed overseas. By the time I get back to the States I will probably be so used to not seeing anything worth while on tv that I'll probably not even worry about subscribing to cable ever again. Thank goodness for Netflix and Blockbuster.

  • Justin

I currently reside in the United States, and my VPN works fine with HULU. If it stops working, I will discontinue my use of HULU due to privacy concerns. There is no way in hell I will use the internet without a VPN. If HULU does not want VPN users on their website, then we will stop using their service.

  • Shin

I have readers on my blog from outside the U.S. I want to show them how great hulu by showing them an embedded movie but I guess that is not going to work

  • JB

As far as I know the TV programs at zattoo.com are only available for Europeans and they will block any US IP.

The problem lies with the distribution channels really.

  • Mike

I completely disagree with their practice and I believe it's done out of spite.

We are subjected to U.S ads all the time when viewing television through traditional means.

However, this is out of context since Hulu's reasoning behind their stance, is that the content is only viewable in the United States, well, this is where the grey area lies, because it is actually an American server accessing the content and rebroadcasting it to those who are using the proxy service, which rules out any red tape that Hulu may be subjected to.

    http://freetv.freeforums.org Thats the URL.

  • John Phoenix

As far as I am concerned I won't use HULU. i use TVU Player for most of my free cable/network tv type stations, like Comedy Central and Sci-fi channel. Other network channels I get with Sopcast. between the two I never need to pay for cable tv.

I am making a new forum for all aspects of Free TV ( that's it above) Soon I will have a list of all programs needed to get the most cable or network type stations and all those stations listed. With this, and the tons of free movie websites on the web no one would ever need to pay for TV or movies again. ( TVU Player has movie channels too!) And for free, the video quality is good enough for me.. I get smooth full screen streaming video but it all depends on your computer and your video card.

New solution found: combine Ultrasurf and Hotspot Shield proxies. Both technologies are free. For more information, read this article on my blog:

    @Louis-eric

I agree a well configured VPN is virtually undectable from a connection from a local machine. That's how I watch Hulu. The only way they can block is by address ranges of known VPNs and proxies offering this service - whcih is why hotspot keeps getting blocked.

It's not a real solution though and they can't block every VPN connecting to their service!

  • Major Obvious

I’d rather now have == I’d rather NOT have

  • Major Obvious

NOW more than ever you people, and other sheeple, need realize- and demand and END to breaking large netblocks into micro-netblocks for EVIL precise geo IP location.

Thanks, but I'd rather now have the service know where I live and most certainly not to "better advertise" to me.

CALL YOUR ISP TODAY and request they assign your device to a DHCP scope / netblock that will NOT reveal your actual geographical location.

Escalate this issue through the troglodyte ranks:

"MY privacy matters to me, dim-witted-ISP-person. I PAY you. LISTEN to what I WANT"

  • Watch Hulu

You don't have to wait for hulu to allow international viewers! Just buy a simple vpn... It's what I did for my travels around the world. I purchased mine from www.hidemynet.com at only 5$ per month, they had instant activation so I was able to start watching immediately.

  • noname

They should make deals with other advertising companies, from other Countries. And based on the Country, It shows different ads.

  • Alex

Just my 2 cents on this. Hulu, of course, isn't the only site that "geolocks" its content. If you're not in the UK, for example, don't bother going to the BBC's Doctor Who website hoping to see anything worthwhile - it's almost all blocked. Non-Canadian's can't see streaming video on CTV or CBC (except for news footage, I believe). And of course other US networks like NBC geolock their stuff, too.

No matter what the reasons are for doing so, from reading the discussions here and elsewhere regarding Hulu, all it says to me is that the Internet can never be a truly legitimate replacement for standard broadcast or DVD/Blu-Ray releases, as some want it to be. In order for it to be so, there would need to be no blocks or anything of the kind. OK, so maybe Hulu is too lazy or lawyer-bound to solve the problem; I'm not seeing anyone starting a Hulu Canada, do you? For this to work, if I want to watch an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man, or the 1960s Batman show online, I should be allowed to do so with a click or two (whether it should be free, or made available with ads, or pay per view, is the topic for a separate debate).

Fact is, as long as the Internet remains subject to geolocks, then frankly Hulu is no different than the regioning of DVDs, or the fact TV and home video viewers have to make do with whatever lawyers and studios and individual broadcasters have decided we should be allowed to see in our parts of the world. It's not an advancement at all; or, if it is, it's only an advancement for one part of the world and shouldn't be considered part of the WORLD Wide Web...

people outside of the US made Hulu famous boo!

  • dmt

    Thank God for SSH!

This sucks for us American citizens that are outside the US.

It sucks to be Americans that are inside the US, I'm in the country and they think I am not!!!!!

I've been blocking hulu from my desktop since they decided to block boxee (contrary to the lies in their "mission statement"). As far as I'm concerned, hulu is irrelevant. They have nothing I want to see that I can't find elsewhere. They'll make no ad money off of me.
