Wow. When are people going to realize that they have every right to say, do or write as they please, they simply don't have the right to keep their job because of what they say, do or write??

Pretty much second what Steve says below. Yes, a person has the right to his opinions (although those rights may be curtailed if the person is a government employee), but a person does NOT have a right to avoid the consequences of his actions and speech. DID FDNY "dumb down" the requirements? I don't know, and it really doesn't matter. This jerk -- who makes every other firefighter look bad by association -- refused multiple orders from his commanding officers to stop doing something. He didn't stop, so now he has to pay the price. Thanks, Butthead --err, Buttaro... for making us all look bad. Good luck finding another job, after being fired by FDNY for insubordination and just generally being an asswipe.

Yep

His Insubordination and other actions, especially the confrontation with his co worker show
He has problems dealing with both African Americans and Women firefighters as well.

Then trying to recruit others to "back" him in his efforts and finally, being insubordinate to higher level Department Officers orders shows that he should be a "former" FDNY firefighter.

I hope he collects his "Pink Slip" -termination papers soon and this isn't drawn out over the next few years because of some "phantom" work related injury and ultimately he gets his 20 year pension.

Gone,yesterday would be fine

He continually disobeyed direct orders, this has nothing to do with his right to free speech. His termination would be justified!

FDNY has plenty of policies and procedures on the books for insubordination and none of them go through the EEO office. No paperwork or charges were ever filed for insubordination because the direct order never happened. They just magically appeared in (Kangaroo Court) testimony. FF Buttaro wasn't allowed to call the FF that made the M.A.D.D. T-shirt to the stand. FF Buttaro wasn't allowed to call a FF that was asked by FF Thomas to take off Merit Matters shirt. FF Thomas told this FF the shirt doesn't bother him, but since he said FF Buttaro can't wear it he has to ask nobody to wear it. Doesn't sound very offended by shirt to me. Nothing hostile about the work environment just 2 guys that don't like each other.

Just saw Curt's update on the case, sounds like F/F Buttaro is being railroaded...
