A massive EM field could potentially do similar to the earth's own magnetic field which protects us from the solar wind. Not sure about transfer between stationary space inside the bubble and potentially fast moving space outside the bubble. We are still foolish to destroy our home world for money.

robert owen • 9 years ago

we have already reversed engineered time travel using electro gravitics in our secret space programs back as far as 1954. What NASA does publicly and what private corporations like MK FIC, Hercules, Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, and some 250 other contractors since we have recovered interstellar craft, we hane a jump room in El Segundo,CA and one other teleporter to pine gap from S-4 not far from where I live The tall whites also share technology with us that helped us setup shop on mars. The fact iks people we are already in the process of building massive star ships to go to the end of the universe. So its time for the rest of you to get up to speed. I worked at Rockwell STS for 30 years, and after at the INEL Lab in Idaho with EG & G.

America doesn't know the 1/2 of what we are already doing for obvious reasons. The energy we use would render the energy we use obsolete and would crash the criminal banking system if they had to start answering questions of ET technology transfer and why aren't we using it to clean up this planet and end all poverty, disease and suffering.

Rob, I have actually read a story about a guy who's father was in a government program that let people go back in time. This guy doesn't seem to be a quack, he's an attorney named Andrew Basiago. He talked about how his father allowed him to go back and view the Gettysburg address. He gave very vivid detail about it. He say's he went back 3 or 4 times, but each time a small detail changed, so they were afraid to do much more. The guy even named the names of the people he met and the REALLY cool part is that he was captured in a picture and he found the picture and pointed himself out. It was pretty interesting. I don't know if you're right or wrong, but I do know that there are more things in heaven and earth than are in our philosophy books. Here is a link to his story. http://www.huffingtonpost.c...

i love how they use evidence from a theory as fact. as they say science isnt a religion

JonasTone • 8 years ago

No one is using the theory as fact, something has been detected that appears to be one thing, not the scientific process of testing all the variables begin, did you even read the whole article, because it states quite clearly that more testing is to be done. Cracker jack idiots posting shit on the internet when they have no idea what they are talking about even in the slightest, and acting like they have read the entire article when it is apparent from their ignorance and post they have not. FML.

If you use your head rather than your ass for thinking, you could have done a little research on both of the theories spoken of in this article, the warp field theory is far beyond idle speculation, multiple experiments by multiple agencies around the globe doing various tests to see if this theory works, and so far, every time the test has been conducted, space-time has been bent in the manner predicted by the hypothesis, thats one part. The other part is the EM drive, accidentally discovered to be producing thrust with no moving parts or fuel, tests being conducted to check its validity, then a new discovery after further hypothesis predicts the EM drive may be bending space time inside it, laser light appearing to travel faster than light through the chamber, now further testing to be done to see if it is repeatable.

All of this is a process, the SCIENTIFIC process, science is not one giant singular entity, it is a method, a tool used to examine and explore the universe by experimenting and testing it, so far, the best method humans have devised to accurately and repeatedly test the universe around us, no central doctrine or predefined set of beliefs, no tenants or ideology, a PROCESS of REPEATED TESTING AND CONFIRMING OR DISPROVING of ideas. How does this in anyway resemble religion? It does not. But im sure you and people like you will continue to tell yourself that it does.

People often confuse the term theory with hypothesis while others simply lack the basic understanding of their meaning.

canadaspy007 . • 9 years ago

Building a warp drive before sheilds is like putting the cart before the horse. Space dust at warp speed would cause any space ship to explode. So really thinking warp speed is a pointless endeavor.

steve • 8 years ago

Only 115 years since the wright brothers .doubt we know it all yet.

Tony • 9 years ago

Space dust at near light speed would indeed be devastating. If however you were stationary in a moving space bubble, it wouldn't do a thing.

Grendal Sven • 9 years ago

Quite a few scientific advancements are achieved by accident. A "warp field" wasn't exactly what they were trying to achieve.

Riley 1066 • 9 years ago

Its not like science has a specific schedule of when concepts get perfected.

superg05 • 9 years ago

the ship is stationary its space that's moving around the warp bubble but i agree

Jay Wilson • 9 years ago

Still makes no sense.... if you warp space you warp all matter in space. No shields necessary.

that would mean you could penetrate the earth and go into the core or even more crazy: the sun.

WitWolfy • 9 years ago

*face palm* Your shitting me right, your gonna use this old argument on me? I mean things that have to do with time travel or space travel.

NOTHING EVER COMES FROM IT!

navelman1952 • 9 years ago

This is real interesting development. If a warp drive can be created then sometime in the next 30 years or so we just might see a spaceship like the Enterprise hurling through space to far away worlds. Go where no man has gone before will become a reality. We better get working on the defense side of this also. We don't know if all the creatures we discover in outer space will be friendly. We need the phaser developed for protection and the photon torpedos. Also will need the shields for the spaceship and a transporter. Lots to do so lets get cracking.

PacificMaelstrom • 9 years ago

1. The "zoo hypothesis" is BS. If space warping is this easy, there aren't going to be any intelligent creatures to discover anywhere in the galaxy, and probably not in any close galaxies either.

2. Star trek transporters = you die and are replaced by a copy of you.

3. Phasers are fictional. Lasers and Ion cannons are real, and could be used as weapons on a ship, along with nuclear missiles and rail guns.

Seems to have been an accidental connection. They were wondering where this “thrust” might be coming from. One scientists proposed that maybe it’s a warp of the spacetime foam, which is causing the thrust.

Microwave radiation interacting with the molecules in the atmosphere could certainly produce the observed effects. I would not get too excited until this thing is tested in a microgravity vacuum, results replicated and creation of thrust is observed and measured in the device.

CalypsoCoral • 9 years ago

Can they test it in space?

Teodor Jovanovski • 9 years ago

Yes, but it is too soon. Let them repeat the experiment in vacuum first.

fhgh • 9 years ago

if they can make a enviroment with calm Zero gravity they are on the right track but i don´t belive that microwaves can make enviroment with calm Zero gravity
but it would be a big breaktrou if they could
I think they need darkmater to create enviroment with calm Zero gravity

"We all" here, present and aware, probably "know" already how mankind will end but with this promising invention, it might be with a funny twist at the end. You see, as we approach certain extinction, with resource exhaustion and prohibitive pollution -levels and all, mankind will without doubt grow desperate at some point.

At first we might send manned expeditions to far off worlds, only to find them dead, lifeless and uninhabitable. Not just in thousands but in millions! Millions of dead worlds!

As we grow even more desperate we manage just to send out millions of crafts with just the "seeds of life". No humans, just the "seeds".

Desperate as it seems, one of the machines might eventually find an almost earth-like world, just to be eaten by a mad three-eyed cat-like creature that woke up on the wrong side that particular morning.

That is the mankind's destiny and "we all know" it deep inside our loving hearts.

PacificMaelstrom • 9 years ago

But you're forgetting one thing.... we will invent Sentient Machines, and they don't need "inhabitable" worlds to survive. They will be more intelligent than us, and they will probably get rid of us somehow. But they will live on, so the banner of Earth will continue on through the cosmos.

enchodus . • 9 years ago

I have no iota of perceivable doubt the universe is littered with
habitable zones with living creatures scattered throughout. If there is a Creator and I know beyond doubt there is and if this creator created the universe/s and He did, then it would be absurd and an utter failure on his side if we are the sole living creatures in it, but we’re not!

"And among His signs is the creation of the heavens universe/s=samawat) and the Earth and what He scattered through THEM from animals (living creatures) and He is capable of gathering them if He wills." Qur’an 42:29

The Arabic word referring to “living creatures” as used
throughout the Qur’an is “dabba” and it refers to any living creature that walks on the Earth regardless of shape or size and has no connection with angels whatsoever, the word for angels is “malika” as used throughout the Qur’an. According to the Qur’an there are multiple Earths, being a part of parallel universes or not is not the concern here:

“" It is Allah who has created seven heavens and of the earth, the like of them. [His] command descends among them so you may know that Allah is over all things competent and that Allah has
encompassed all things in knowledge.” Qur’an 65:12

“ Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds (Al’Alameen)”
Qur’an 1-2

The easier it is to travel in space, the lower the odds of any other life existing in the universe.

However, we will eventually fill the universe with life from Earth, so it doesn't matter If there's nothing there now... we will bring life to the rest of the universe.

And if you get bored of normal animals, genetic engineering will be happy to create new ones for you to enjoy.

Guest • 8 years ago

how so ? What if they do exist in the universe, but are just not interested in us?

PacificMaelstrom • 8 years ago

It doesnt really matter either way, we should still be able to see them... go on google earth/maps and zoom in on a random place on earth... you will see evidence of humans almost every time. When intelligent beings expand out into space, the universe will be no different. There will be probes and outposts at EVERY star and planet. The 100 billion stars in a galaxy is not much compared to exponetial population growth. You wont be able to orbit a moon without seeing someones litter they dumped out the airlock. Advanced robotics will result in exponentially growing labor force to create exponentially more robots, starships, etc. Even without warp travel, the ENTIRE galaxy can be colonized in 20 million years or less. Thats 1/3 of the time between us and the dinosaurs.
The fact that we dont see any aliens means either:
1. We are first out of many
2. We are alone
3. Interstellar travel is impossible.
Neither 1 nor 3 seem likely. 1 is unlikely because it is im probable that we would be first when there are many stars that are much older than ours. In order for it to make sense for us to be first, intelligent life must be VERY RARE or else interstellar travel must be EXCEPTIONALLY DIFFICULT. There is an inverse relationship between the two variables... the easier it is to travel in space, the faster civilizations can expand outward, and therefore greater spacing between civilizations is needed to explain the fact we havent seen any.

If warp drives possible, this spacing increases immensely to the scale of galaxy superclusters or larger.

If you assume that there are many aliens out there, yes it is plausible that some or most of them could leave us alone, but it only takes ONE of them be interested and the arguement fails. We would be interested in them, so it makes sense that some of them would be interested in us.

Michael Smith • 9 years ago

Hello everyone. So first off.. Can someone explain if and how this negative energy is stored? Because i thought of it was a force not an energy... I was explained as the greater force on the outside of two "planes" almost touching generates or creates a negative force due to the fact that there are so fewer particles between them than around the planes. Does a person need a physics degree to grasp this? Also since speed increases mass .. yay for warp tech. taking the loophole.. but what happen's in or beyond FTL? Whether it is the ship moving or the space around it. Disturbing time-space at FTL for one... that gives me a little concern and how on earth are you expected to deal with even a miniature impact at those speeds let alone a hand sized one. Forgive me if i am asking to many questions... Feel free to pick at it and i hope you guys are nice about what likely seems obvious to minds that can solve a rubbix cube in one hand... ga doy! But like i said... just an average cat trying to learn.
