And what do they have in common, single payer.

# 3 Puerto Rico What is the welfare percent? 40%

Wealth is not the basis of happiness....

BlackTongue • 8 years ago

As seen by the European countries that rank high in wealth but are non existent in overall well being. I believe Jesus pretty much told us how to behave to achieve joy and peace in life. PS, it doesn't involve money. Go figure.

rvandint • 8 years ago

I am still not sure why you think every place in Europe is dripping with gold.

Euro Yank • 8 years ago

Which European country have you lived in that makes you think that?

BlackTongue • 8 years ago

Nope. "Well" countries have predominant Christian population. "Not well" countries are Muslim or non religious. Even the rich liberal European countries fall short. No God. No belief in Jesus Christ. No life worthwhile. Period.

TheDude1244 • 8 years ago

Well the FSM is going to eat your Jebus.

Ray Fischer • 8 years ago

Russia is Christian. Israel isn't. Sweden isn't religious at all.

Euro Yank • 8 years ago

What you may not know is that it costs you to declare yourself religious.

Russia has been actively destroying Christianity since the USSR days, even earlier with Stalin and Lenin. Christianity in Russia has been decimated since that time. I would hardly call Russia a Christian country.

Not Convinced • 8 years ago

Ever heard of the russian orthodox church? I hear it's kind of a thing.

PhysicistVet • 8 years ago

"Russia has been actively destroying Christianity since the USSR days"

Incorrect. The USSR was anti-religion, and after the dissolution of the USSR, Christianity exploded. Nearly 74% of the Russian population self identifies as Christian, according to Pew research (as of 2011).

Desk Budgie • 8 years ago

Actually, since the fall, Russia has become extremely conservative. Hate groups are rampant. State sponsored Christianity is very strong. Putin's oppression of homosexuals in Russia is simple pandering to this extreme right base.

Ray Fischer • 8 years ago

You're about two decades out of touch.

PhysicistVet • 8 years ago

And the highest scoring countries overall mostly start with consonants, so obviously any nation beginning with a vowel is less likely to be a good place to live.

Evgeny Kolev • 8 years ago

I kind of agree with that, but for a different reason - the brainwashed people are easier to be controlled and convinced that the shortcomings of their lives are not important in the promise of the afterlife.
The rest see them as a need to improve.

DaveinSC • 8 years ago

Interesting that the countries that are doing the best financially are all the "socialist" countries.

And that surprises you?

Funny (Not ha-ha funny) to hear the right's constant drumbeat that the POTUS is a socialist. If only he really was. Imagine where we might be if he fit that description.

And right on cue, look at packerd's post.

packerd • 8 years ago

He was a member of the Socialist Party. Maybe just a ruse.

Observe Reason • 8 years ago

OH MY GOD...NOT SOCIALISTS!!!!!!!!
Quick grab the torches and pitchforks and man the ramparts.

Fisherguy • 8 years ago

Shhhh...conservatives don't want to face reality. "Murica first." That's the fantasy world they live in.

Ray Roth • 8 years ago

Well the truth of the matter is that republicans are corporatists. Socialism is the antipathy of corporatism. It's their way of preserving corporatism, which, in America, is more and more disliked.

Fisherguy • 8 years ago

Conservatives worship the Corporate State, that's a fact. It's their religion.

marvin nubwaxer • 8 years ago

cons worship the rich, despise the poor, money is their god, and you can't have enough god, can you?

John Tompkins • 8 years ago

Quick...somebody dig up McCarthy!

It would appear that Cruz beat you to that idea.

My car insurance went up by 20% without any claims or tickets for that year. I called them to find out why and they told me it was because their were more accidents reported in my area and that the rate increase was spread across the board of all drivers. I ask her that sounds like the insurance company is using socialism to increase their rates, she actually told me I was right. Why can corporations use the socialist model to make more money but our country cannot use it to save money and people's lives.

PhysicistVet • 8 years ago

"He was a member of the Socialist Party."

Are people still touting that repeatedly debunked lie? Perhaps you should take into consideration 2 simple facts:
1. It isn't true and
2. The accusations of socialism came as a directive from Roger Ailes to all Fox News on air employees. The same Roger Ailes whose political strategy is to discredit opponents at all costs (true or otherwise) and to convince others that any disagreement with their statements is a conspiracy (or hint that it is a conspiracy). His model (and guidance) has obviously worked very well; it worked for Nixon, Reagan, GHW Bush and GW Bush.

packerd • 8 years ago

It is a simple fact.

Geo Burn • 8 years ago

Yet a certain political party in the USA refuses to adapt any of their policies because they are "socialist". Interesting indeed.

PossibleCannibal • 8 years ago

Yeah, and we get stuck in this dump.

Blank Slate • 8 years ago

Median income in the US: About $52,000. In Norway? About $33,500. But since the measure of financial wellness is having enough money to "do everything you want to do", I guess the "socialists" are more low maintenance than anything else.

To each his own...

PhysicistVet • 8 years ago

The average person in the US also pays more than $8000 a year in healthcare costs, and around $4000 for health insurance.

In Norway, in addition to the low cost of healthcare, they also have much lower costs for their education, and there local governments don't rely on fleecing the poorest to make up a huge chunk of their budget. They also have much less theft and vandalism, less drunk driving, and spend less on average for their utilities.

So there's that.

Blank Slate • 8 years ago

They also have $9 gas and high taxation.

I guess that is an acquired taste.

Ken Albertsen • 8 years ago

I'm glad to see Myanmar score high. I visit Myanmar weekly, and enjoy the lovely social interaction there - particularly during evenings. Note: I think the word 'not' is missing - in the closing part of the article: "you have ... worried about money."

Phil I Stine • 8 years ago

which socialist countries?

BlackTongue • 8 years ago

I think you meant to say "Christian" countries.

PossibleCannibal • 8 years ago

You libs are all the same, you cry about war and world hunger but you don't like to shop at crowded malls.

Ray Roth • 8 years ago

Your post makes no sense. Who likes wars, world hunger and shopping at crowded malls? Perhaps a nut case?

Alrik Firl • 8 years ago

Or perhaps... a cannibal?

Parody account gotcha again.

Ray Roth • 8 years ago

This is a parady reply. hfjrtumkk!

Fisherguy • 8 years ago

Is that where you work?

Blank Slate • 8 years ago

Careful....

You might be perceived as a liberal letting slip how they really feel about people working certain jobs.

John Tompkins • 8 years ago

So THAT's the answer to war and hunger; shopping in loud places with food courts ready to throw extra food away.

Blank Slate • 8 years ago

They say Swiss kids as young as 12 belong to neighborhood gun clubs.
