what is meant by initiation......who initiates us ??

Anna Munasinghe • 6 years ago

Hi, I did Shambhavi in Melbourne in 2015. I haven't done it regularly since then, but i have been meditating regularly since then. Every now and again, I won't meditate for a couple of weeks. When I start again, I find my concentration and general well being improves dramatically. But, every time I start trying to increase the amount of time I meditate for (or if I have just been super consistent), I find that I start getting more upset and distressed (in general life, not during the process of meditation). I feel like this stops me from increasing the amount of time that I meditate for. What's happening, and should I just push through?

What is difference between shambhavi mahamudra and shambhavi mudra which is available on youtube

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Shambhavi Mudra is a 5-minute practice that can be learnt online from youtube. https://www.youtube.com/wat...
Shambhavi Mahamudra Kirya or Inner Engineering (IE) is a 21-minute practice that one needs to get initiated into. You can find an IE class near you here: http://www.ishayoga.org/en/...

I am aspiring towards enlightenment, I live in Israel.. So joining a program is difficult for me because there isn't any here and so I feel like I have to this all on my own.
If I would know the steps of the hatha yoga and shambavi process in detail I would do it daily..
So if possible I'd appreciate somebody showing me the way ;)

What is difference between Shambhavi mahamudra discussed here and in the video link discussed below?
https://m.youtube.com/watch...

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

There is no difference.

Vijaya Patil • 7 years ago

Isn't this one in video different from the 21 minutes one that you need to get initiated? Please give the right answer. I think that's definitely different

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Yes, the 21-minute practice is different from the Shambhavi Mudra published in the video: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
You need to get initiated into the 21-minute practice which is called as, Shambhavi Mahmudra Kriya or Inner Engineering. You can find a class near your location from here: http://www.ishayoga.org/en/...

I am suffering from depression, anxeity and stomach issues. I am not able to sit for the whole shambhavi mahamudra time period as i feel restlessness and fatigue. Should i start with AUM chanting. If so, how many minutes should i do it daily.

Srinivasan Ramachandran • 7 years ago

Hi Sai Krishna. Every aspect of Shambhavi has deep significance. If your questions is about skipping the initial practices and start Shambhavi from AUM chanting then I would say no. Please attend a sathsang and consult a teacher for better guidance. But yes, independent of Shambhavi you can do AUM chanting for any period or any number of time.

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Yes, you can do AUM chanting for 20 minutes daily.

Suffering from thyroid problem since I was 13 years approx from 15 years I'm on Eltroxin 50 mg daily. It made my life hell. Hair loss. No sleep entire night. Frustrated really. Tryed everything. Last few years having saviour menstrual pain n cramps. Taking homeopathy remedies from a year. I'm total depressed now. Cannot bear this extreme pain. Is death only solution to all this ? My married life not working well, out of 30 almost 20 days I'm ill. No kids. Not gaining weight. Not able to work. Body is very sensitive so dint taken risk of yoga practices. I watch sadhguru's videos but when pain occurs forget everything body mind. My age is 28 running and weight 29 kg. Horrible life I'm living here.

Srinivasan Ramachandran • 7 years ago

I happen to meet some participants who were recently initiated into Shambhavi Mahamudra. They were sharing some really great experiences of them coming out of some really extreme life situations after they started doing Shambhavi. Just don't think twice, just take the plunge and try inner engineering Shambhavi mahamudra kriya.

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Please do not feel so depressed and dis-heartened. Why don't you give the Inner Engineering Program a try and see what it can do for you?

S!d • 7 years ago

Hey! Is it okay to do AUM meditation whenever I feel like; like midnight? Is there any stomach condition it should be done in?

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Better not do it in midnight. Sandhya Kalas are the best time to do AUM meditation. Please refer this article for Sandhya Kalas. http://isha.sadhguru.org/bl...

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

kartheek • 7 years ago

I can not attend the program is reading the inner engineering book is as good as attending program

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

The book is not a replacement for the Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya. You need to attend the program in order to learn it.

Abin Dith • 7 years ago

Hi Im 18.When i sit in sukhasana and with an upturned face I feel pain in my neck and I cannot concentrate on my breath. Please help.

Isha Blog Moderator • 7 years ago

Maybe you'r lifting your head too much. Tilt your head up a little bit only.

Joseph Boucher • 6 years ago

I'm having trouble with my hips and ankles and knees in the position Sadghuru showed us during shambhavi mahamudra kriya practice, can I sit in sukhasana position?

Isha Blog Moderator • 6 years ago

If you have trouble sitting in the posture for Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya, then you can do more of preparatory steps. Please consult a Isha Yoga Teacher near you for detailed corrections with your practice. All Isha Office locations can be found here: http://isha.sadhguru.org/co...

Sindu • 7 years ago

I have learnt AOL Sudarshan kriya, Padma sadhana &
meditation since I could not attend isha program. After listening sadhguru talks in youtube I am more inclined towards isha programs hence I want to do inner engineering learn shambhavi maha mudra and experience the same.Could you please tell how different inner engineering as compared to AOL programs ?
Whether I can do both if time permits or focus on one methodology (either isha or AOL)
How to decide which is the best one ?

Rajesh Menon • 8 years ago

I have been suffering from intense anxiety and depression for a year now. I will be attending the Inner Engineering program in February 2016. I would like to ask people whether this course is worth it or am I just wasting my money and my time.?

Ravi.M • 8 years ago

hi what is the different between shabhavi mahamudra and shabhavi mudra. i have isha yoga tool app. there sadhguru teach shabhavi mudra . shall i practise that . is it power as like as shabhavi mahamudra . pls help with this

Sekhar Reddy • 7 years ago

Shambhavi mahamudra and shambhavi mudra are different... Mudra is 10% of original mahamudra.. in upayoga shambhavi mudra is is one of the practice. But in inner engineering .. mahamudra ..they will teach... And that shambhavi mahamudra we have to practice 40days daily 2times.. to Learn shambhavi mahamudra you must go inner engineering program.. to Learn shambhavi mudra.. youtube video is enough and it is simple

Srinivasan • 8 years ago

In the year 2012, I attended this program in Bangalore. I was initiated by one of Sadhguru's disciples Maa Dakshina. I practiced it for a while but I am not totally out of touch. Though I remember the sequence of steps, I am not confident about doing it correctly. Now I want to start it all over again regularly, this time. What should I do? Can I start doing it as I am already initiated? Please help.

Also, does anybody in this group know Maa Dakshina... I used to have her phone number but I seem to have misplaced it now. Please pass me her contact number if any one has, so I can talk to her and get her advise directly.

Pranaam.
I would be really grateful if you could please send me the links to the papers of the studies mentioned here. I saw some some videos of Sadguru Jaggi Maharaj today and found him very inspiring, would love to see the demonstrated effectiveness of ancient methods re-popularised by him.

satheeshdonthy • 8 years ago

Found this article by googling shambhavi maha mudra and came to this page via Facebook post. I wanted to refer this article to some one new but, the url says "why shambhavi" but the title and the article refer to Meditation. This would be confusing to people who have not done any Isha Programs. Is there a better intro page for Shambhavi ? Please help. Thanks.

LarryB • 8 years ago

Believe it! I was looking at Shambhavi MM for a spiritual practice, which it definitely is. I just wasn't ready for all the health and mental benefits that came with it. My circulation, high blood pressure, and energy level issues have all disappeared after doing SMM. My thinking is clearer, more authoritative and embodied feeling. And my excess weight did seem to disappear like magic.

Some weight has come back dropping down to once a day, but still significantly better than when I started. With all the amazing benefits I couldn't afford to stop if I wanted to. And I have no doubt that keeping this up will help me life disease free to a ripe old age.

i was fortunate enough to learn shambhavi mahamudra direct from sadhguru in one of the programmes conducted by him in Hotel Residency, Coimbatore sometime in the year 2003 or 2004. it was one of best things that happened in my life. i practiced it regularly for several years. it had a calming effect on me. however, i discontinued regular practice a couple of years back and shall restart now. it is a great practice.
