Correction: Why would anyone in their right mind use an HTTP/HTTPS connection for anonymity?? HTTP and HTTPS are both insecure when it comes to privacy and anonymity. HTTPS is more secure to prevent eavesdropping however the anonymity and privacy is only limited to those who hold they keys to decrypt your connection. So in reality it's not really anonymous or private is it...

Why would anyone in their right mind use an http connection (with the built in features of traffic monitoring by your loving government and ISP) - to browse a service intended for anonymity and privacy? This just sounds like a ploy to weed out stupid people. Even though TOR has become less and less reliable for anonymity it's by far the best option as of today - and even better if mixed with additional proxies, so use it!!!

Hopefully in time a newer version of TOR will include built in features to re-manipulate packet flow and response time in a secure way. Currently by manipulating traffic flow patterns from an onion website it is possible to identify the originating ip address by correlating this "network fingerprint" among ISP's network traffic.
