China will continue to build on the islands and militarise them.

US is utterly powerless and helpless to stop that from happening.

China will build more coast guard ships and naval ships and deploy them to patrol the SCS to make sure China has ABSOLUTE control of the SCS.

US patrols won't make a difference to China's long term plans of militarising the islands. Unless the US can stop the construction by China, China is winning this game BIG TIME!

More and more countries are no longer afraid to challenge American power. Everyone sees the rapid and terminal decline of America and their aura of invincibility is being shredded to pieces.

What you're seeing is the beginning of the end of the American empire and its desperate attempts to save face as China (AIIB, ADIZ, cyber, RMB in SDR, etc), Russia (Crimea, Syria, etc), Iran and others lose respect for the US and ignore the US and just do whatever they want.

American decline is what the British went through in the early 20th century. The British found its empire weakening internally and others started to challenge and change the status quo as its ability to stop others was weakening with each passing year. America is going through the same phase.

It's all over for the American empire. All it can do is manage its decline.

Lord High Wulfenstraat • 8 years ago

Ha Ha Ha! We did it, and the PLA shut the hell up. China is a paper tiger, nothing more.

However, we're very sorry that the fishing flotillas of China's fake navy did not bog us down, as we had hoped, so that we could establish a military presence there, which we were prepared to support on a daily basis with helicopter deliveries and cab service.

Yes, you foiled our mission by not interfering with our transit. We would have much preferred to be surrounded by the Chinese fishing boats, making it impossible for us to leave the area without ramming and sinking these boats, giving us a perfect excuse to stay there.

Now, we'll have to figure out another method of supporting Vietnamese and Filipino fishing boats as they transit that 12-mile. It would have been so much easier if we could have been made to stay. Damn. Foiled again.

Factories in China are already idling and will soon turn to rust and crumbling concrete. Skyscrapers forever unfinished will claw the sky with their riveted steel beams. Urban dwellers with hope of escaping the poverty and despair of barely surviving in the cities will abandon their crumbling highrises for the rice and wheat fields of the countryside. There is no future for the PRC, even if that miserable decrepitude manages to stumble along until its death knell in the Battle of the Senkakus, slated for 2017. And then, all will be happy and well again, because....

After the dissolution of the PRC, the Han Chinese will patch the rags of their past with the weave of their best hopes for the future. Thus will be born the Yellow River Federation, the Yangtze People's Republic and the Pearl River Union, all based on the cultural and historical watersheds of those three great rivers. These three new countries are, even now, being prepared to come to fruition after the economic collapse of the PRC. Not even Xi's war against corruption, aimed at these founding fathers, can stop this historical inevitability, because the young will forever keep rising against the totalitarianism of the CCP.

And soon enough, Tibet will be free once more with the return of the Dalai Lama. The Uyghurs will establish their own independent republic as East Turkistan by driving the Han from their ancestral lands. Likewise, the Mongolians will reestablish governmental ties on both sides of their borders to form a new United Mongolia. And, of course, the Manchurians will do likewise. By 2016, Macau and Hong Kong will regain their independent status as well as the prosperity that was theirs before being absorbed. Taiwan, still free, will rejoin the United Nations as a full member and assist in midwifing the new Han countries into being, making sure they evolve and prosper from the carcass of the defunct PRC with freedom and independence.

This is the future. There is none other. For now, simply recognize that the PRC is dying. Why continue to align yourselves with death? Why worship the rotting carcass of Mao? Instead, the free countries of the world invite you to join the re-birth of prosperity under the benevolent and watchful care of the PAX Americana.

Chinhomiah • 8 years ago

PRC is dying you say, Lord Wulfie. Are you sure that it is not you who is dying. From investing badly in your collapsing New York market. From the failures of your predictions about China. My goodness, it is hard to tell who spins more rubbish about China - you or Gordon Chang. I can reassure you that China is doing very well. I've been touring Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Hailougou, Kangding, Leshan and Mount Emei. Nice autumn colours, which nothing in your New England states can even compare. You should try coming to China, Wulfie. The places I've mentioned are all in Sichuan, which you probably will not know how to locate on the map of China. If you do make it here, try to get a matronly Chinese woman to massage your anti-Chinese animus out of your body. Yah.

Assure me? You? Don’t be so short-sighted. We’re fighting a war, and shorting the American economy was simply a means to win it. You do realize that Chinese debt is growing at 3X the rate that the Chinese economy is growing, even at the official rate of that imaginary 7% (but you and I both know it's only growing at 2.2%, much less than the rate that the US itself is growing). Any dullard would realize that the creation of this much debt is unsustainable, regardless of the bank savings of Chinese people (which itself is destroying Xi's China dream of consumerism replacing the investment/export model). That's a big laugh at Chinese aggression in the South China Sea and off the coast of Japan, because Bernanke was America's greatest Cool War warrior, whose mission was the taming of the PRC.

Remember when I told you that QE (which was the Fed loosing {I said loosing, not losing} upwards of 80 billion dollars a month into the global financial system) would not create substantial inflation in the US? Do you remember? And do you remember where I told you all that credit would go? I called it by its proper name of "Hot Money," which entered mainland China through Hong Kong, because it was the only legal way we could flood the PRC with easy credit? And that easy credit bubbled up the prices of homes and property and factories in China to unsustainable levels of debt. That was Bernanke’s intention all along.

And now we, the American people, sit imperially waiting for the Fed to push Humpty Dumpty down the wall with a rate hike that makes it impossible for emergants to pay their debts and go bankrupt...with China at the head of them. Now we, the American people, wait imperially to see China's economy crashing off the wall if Chinese aggression continues, which partially explains the USS Lassen sailing by Subi Reef. As you probably don’t know, the PLA is merely a shadow play of strength, because we can starve China of food and fuel in 21 days, causing food riots against the government; so don’t even go there as a tit for tat. My advice to Xi Jinping is: Be prepared to come begging on your knees with your forehead pressed to the floor of American hegemony when you come back to our shores. Maybe then we’ll listen. Otherwise, all Xi’s horses and all Xi’s men will never be able to put the “PRC Dumpty” together again.

Maybe China will continue. But not the CCP, which wears the clothes of its European masters instead of traditional Chinese wear. Explain that, Joe. Why are your Chinese rulers dressed like the capitalist pigs.

I always have something new to say. But when I say it, and it proves to all of you to have been the truth, no matter how distasteful it is for you to see the truth, I like to repeat...so that you'll listen to how we are destroying the PRC in order to institute the Yellow River Federation, the Yangtze People's Republic and the Pearl River Union, along with all the colonies released from CPC control and returned to independent status.

And we continue to sail wherever we want. Now, I'm thinking that we should just find a nice reef out in the middle of the South China Sea and build it up so that we can militarize it too. Yes. We might just start building islands all over the South China Sea, islands that aren't in the territorial waters of littoral nations but simply out in the middle of the South China Sea. Yeah. We can do that too...since no one owns the South China Sea.

The truth is none of the nations on this planet like the bully USA. It's all because of its political pressure that this bully put on those poor countries and forced them to obey its policies. Don't forget the Okinawan never like the Americans and so do the ordinary Japanese.

Bully USA = Terrorist USA.

Why ?

Because USA President Bush gave terror to the Iraqi People and destroyed Iraq into ruins.

Is this why in 2015, USA President Obama and US Navy is giving terror to the Chinese People in the South China Sea ?

USA = United States of Aggression.

Nekromanteion • 8 years ago

You've allowed a dominant psychological issue to mould an architectonic world view when, for the most part, no superstructure exists. Much if not most of what goes on in the world is a constantly shifting interplay of desired outcomes, unintended consequences, accidents and randomness. There is fairly little continuity of desires of American and Russian politicians today and their counterparts 90 years ago.

Иван • 8 years ago

There is order in chaos IF you are distant enough and smart enough to see it. Majority are pawns of intended/unintended consequences. Who are you?

Nekromanteion • 8 years ago

I agree almost everyone is a pawn. "Yanks", "ruskies", chinese people aren't each others enemies. It is their politicians and media which whip them into hatred of each other. So when you say "never trust a yank" or wipe your feet on an American flag doormat or say "I hate Russia " when you really mean you hate Putin, you are part of the manipulation. But the plans of the politicians isn't monolithic. Obama has different desires than Ronald Reagan, Putin isn't Gorbachev and the current Beijing has become less friendly to neighboring countries than post nixon when their main concern was trade with the west. There is constant flux. Nations aren't permanently good or evil.

Иван • 8 years ago

You've evaded my question. There is no such thing as "good" and "evil" It's fractional-divisional judeo-christian morality. People are people but we are divided by a plethora of differences. You either respect and adapt or dominate and conquer. If you believe mr.Obama hold some kind of position of power, we have nothing to discuss.

Nekromanteion • 8 years ago

While it is true there is no such thing as an objective good and evil as it is understood in most religions, that doesn't mean they can't be given scientific definitions and afforded existence within experiential reality . Evil = sadism (the deriving of pleasure from others pain) Good = altruism (the deriving of pleasure from others happiness / comfort). So my statement stands. Nations, their leaders and their citizens don't remain a specific degree of sadistic / altruistic forever. It is constantly changing.

there is no such things China is an outlaws what i see is Vietnam,Phillippines, Malaysia, Indonesia the US just playing them as a puppet to force them to have a fight with China by doing that they can win a war against china they new they can't win a war with china without help other nation all of those nation think the US is allied they most be stupid to think such way the US using them. even Japan are the most idiots people to let US have a Military base inside japan they don't remember what the US have done to them drop two atomic bombs on them they shouldn't forget that at all, the US suppose number one enemy for them not China the Asian people very stupid to let US come all this way to control them the should do it like Europe have one continent instead let the US come to divide them.

Don't equate the bumbling, conflicted foreign policy of Obama with overall U.S. decline. In a few years, Obama will be gone and it is likely that there will be a Republican president in office. The U.S. is still, by far, the leading superpower and with the right leadership, the U.S. and China can resolve this issue peacefully. It is wise for China to handle this matter with restraint and caution.
