I gave up and bought a Nexus 6P

Timel • 8 years ago

I understand you,

Can't help Sony killed itself, It sounds like Sony just wanna go bankrupt! It's so shame that Z5 family comes to the U.S. too late furthermore the U.S. version still has no fingerprint sensor

Sony is fucking stupid and double standard, It supposed to be one standard for the whole world, what is sony thinking right now? SONY is destroying its own Xperia brand

while Samsung is going to launch Galaxy S7 next few weeks from now and Sony's Z5 family will has nothing to compete with the newest advanced android phone like Galaxy S7 in the U.S. market for sure...

Xperia will be forgotten again, must blaim Sony U.S. team. Those guys who run Sony Mobile US must be fired!!! You guys suck!

Timel • 8 years ago

It's not just too late, furthermore the U.S. version of Z5 also has no fingerprint sensor…Seriously? While Samsung, LG and Huawei are preparing to launch their new flagship phones in the U.S. next month?

What the heck is Sony thinking right now?
There has no chance that the smartphone like Z5 will be able to compete with newer and (definitely) cooler rivals like Galaxy S7, LG G5

Still don’t understand why companies like Samsung and LG can start selling their flagship smartphones in the U.S. officially one week after launched (even Huawei which is going to catch up Samsung and LG in U.S. market right now) while Sony can’t do the same.

Gosh! Sony is the most inefficient electronic company in the world, and if Sony still run the business like this, Sony will never be able to win Apple, Samsung, LG or even Chinese manufacturer like Huawei... Goodbye Sony!

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

I hear ya man. It's tough to wait on them, especially when there's no guarantee of a U.S. release, until they finally decide to. lol But the 6P would've been my next choice too.........that, or wait for the HTC M10/02 in March/April(?).

Abhi • 8 years ago

Seriously, comes to the US like 2-3 months before the next one releases or is expected to release. Kind of lame considering US carriers have all moved away from subsidies with Sprint being the last to do so this month.

KatieMUT • 8 years ago

Just saw this blurb on The Verge:

"Update January 14th, 4:20PM ET: Sony has informed us that the US version of the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z5 Compact will not include a fingerprint sensor. This article has been changed to reflect this."

WOW!! Lame move Sony. Guess I'll just keep the international model that I ordered from Amazon this morning.

KatieMUT • 8 years ago

Yup just compared the US site to the Global site. US specs on top, Global specs on bottom. Fingerprint sensor is definitely missing from the US model. What possible reason could Sony have for such a stupid move? The fingerprint sensor was one of the biggest selling points for me. Glad I have an international model on the way tomorrow.

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

Wow, good catch Katie. That is primo stupido! lol Why don't you just take out the waterproofing/dustproofing certification too? Or better yet, Stamina Mode?! lol The int'l model sounds like the way to go. Or like me, just wait for the Z6 (or HTC One M10/02? lol).

Akand • 8 years ago

I think you guys are wrong. According to Sony website rules, if any feature/specification is market variable, then they mark that one with 5 star (*****). And any version of Sony website doesn't mark fingerprint sensor with any star. That means it's a basic specification of Z5.
Just follow their conditions...

MurF-A-Zoid • 8 years ago

I say they could be right buddy. If you compare the too Sony Sites. The USA site doesn't show the picture of the finger sensor. The Sony global site does show it. Just check them both out and right after the title
(Doesn’t mind a little rain) with a man holding a newspaper above his head with the Sony Z5 in his hand. Then you'll see that the Sony USA site shows a women holding the cellphone title (What if every day had more hours?). Then the Sony Global site you see Sony Z5 phone finger sensor title (The phone that knows it’s you). This is a stupid move from you Sony! I hope were all wrong about this.

ew210 • 8 years ago

LOL people believe posts on the Verge? They are marketing department and not credible source at all !!

KatieMUT • 8 years ago

Well there is no mention of the fingerprint sensor on the US Xperia Z5 page. The Global Xperia Z5 page makes it a big point of the phone. Looks to me like The Verge might be right about this.

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

They might be right this time Dark, but normally The Verge sucks! lol I've seen them bash the Xperia Z phones before, and in a pretty rough way too. Not a big fan of them.

ew210 • 8 years ago

Like I said all those major tech sites are marketing departments and far from credible sources they will talk good about those who buy most add spaces on their pages(since big company's like samsung,lg,apple can't just pay them directly) and who sponsor them them the most(supplying them with various devices and equipment).

for example reviewer on the verge said that fingerprint sensor on Z5 is bad and have many false reading which is not true and on contrary is definitely one of the best better than on the S6 and you just need to set it properly but reviewer was intentionally lazy to do so.

Timel • 8 years ago

So How do you sure that the verge is wrong, Stop trying to be a blind fan, Z5 isn't perfect at all

my friend has Z5 and he also complain about its fingerprint scanner as well, sometimes fingerprint scanner on Z5 is slower than S6

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

Dark,

Yeah I read reviews saying it's (fingerprint sensor) great on the Z5, but my one cousin said he read a few (I'm sure The Verge was one of them lol) saying it was bad. Oh well. I'm waiting (or not waiting?) for the Z6 anyway. Or else the HTC One M10/02.

I have the Z3 now and it works great although I had to get a replacement a couple weeks ago cuz the battery outta nowhere started draining too fast, and even a factory reset didn't fix it (only was good a week). If HTC FINALLY gets a Sony camera and it performs well, I may switch back since my old M8 was VERY similar feature-wise to my Z3 (i.e. double-tap to wake, stereo front-facing speakers, premium look, etc). I had no issues with my M8, but the battery drain thing has happened a couple times with my last Z3, but factory resets fixed it. I think it has something to do with a bug in the Stamina Mode option, but not sure. We'll see.

Timel • 8 years ago

Really? The Verge is right this time, Sony already confirmed that U.S. version Z5 will not come up with fingerprint scanner

Akand • 8 years ago

Paul • 8 years ago

It appears the USA Z5 Compact will be the E5803. I haven't seen anything to indicate there will be no fingerprint scanner. The only difference is that the E5803 has Cat 4 LTE as opposed to Cat 6 LTE for the International E5823. I haven't seen any info for the standard size USA Z5 yet.

DanielGearSolid • 8 years ago

Wat the fuuuuudge....

*siiiigggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*

Sony... Why???

illstplaya . • 8 years ago

No sure if I should get this or wait for the z6 so I can have the 820... But then there's the possibility the Sony does not release a z6 or changes the design which I would not like because I like the current design. Bad thing about getting the z5 is the bad battery life from the 810 but of course it has all the upgrades that my z1s does not have.

jamie evans • 8 years ago

If it was coming to T-Mobile or Verizon, it would be much better... Unlocked ones won't be widespread

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

Yeah you might be right Jamie. The Z3 T-Mobile Edition had 32 GBs of internal memory, while the international one I believe only had 16.

KatieMUT • 8 years ago

Can someone please confirm what model is coming to the US? Will it be the same E6653 model I purchased from Amazon this morning? I couldn't cancel the order, and it's scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Wondering if I should keep it, or try to return it. I want to have a US warranty on the phone.

KatieMUT • 8 years ago

I posted a comment on the Sony Mobile US Facebook post about the Z5. Hopefully they will respond.

azzido • 8 years ago

shouldn't it be Z6 at this time???

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

F yeah!! lol Bring that bad boy out already, or at least give us a date! Release it this Spring or Summer latest, then stick to a once a year schedule, preferably in the Spring.

Jacky • 8 years ago

I was in hong kong last month and i purchased the z5 green single SIM with warranty already. Everything is working well with Tmobile US right now.
I paid 730USD, came with the official style cover case, one soft gel TPU case, 3000mAh portable charger, toshiba 16gb micro sd, front and back protector, and a well designed phone stand/pen/highlighter for my desk.

lovebmw • 8 years ago

At least make it with the latest android os for the love of God

aseuss • 8 years ago

Engadget put it best: "US carriers have been noticeably wary of carrying Sony smartphones; despite generally solid reviews (like our own) Sony has had perhaps the most difficulty cracking the US market of any major smartphone maker." Wall Street Journal made a similar observation a year ago, noting the Xperia Z's 'rave reviews' and then pointing out Sony's problem is carrier support. So each of us has got to go to our respective carrier and demand that they carry the Xperia Z series. I contacted T-Mobile and the person was very enthusiastic and promised to send the request to the higher-on-ups. This isn't just so that the US gets phones. It's so everyone continues to enjoy Sony phones. Because if Xperia doesn't have at least a small presence in the US, then there won't be any Xperia phones at all. That means no deciding on whether to get the international version...because there will be no Sony Mobile, period.
So: contact your carrier and request that they carry Xperia Z5. Tell them its an easy sell: waterproof, 23mp camera, fastest autofocus, great battery life, easy brand recognition.

Plutocracy • 8 years ago

I waited so long for this phone. I was willing to accept no USB-C, no Qi charging, no
all- metal construction, no DAC, no OIS, lower-than-average audio
levels, and an oddly placed volume rocker, but if/when Sony removed the
finger print scanner, they turned a flagship into a caboose. They just
ate 60 -70% of their U.S. profitability since finger printer scanners
are the hot feature right now. Sad. I will wait for other mfgs. new models released this spring.

Magical Triangle • 8 years ago

This would have been good news in September, and if it had the finger print scanner

Uzair Syed • 8 years ago

Too late. Got the Z3v under contract on black Friday...

JHMBB2 • 8 years ago

It doesn't look like they're offering the Z5 Premium?

Ryuzaki Raiga • 8 years ago

i thought American people only care about iphone??? or nexus or samsung s6+

iia3ezu • 8 years ago

With the other flagships on the horizon (Snapdragon 820, MWC 2016), it's only now that Sony brings the Z5 to the USA. Shows you how little they care about the US market. LOL.

The pink Xperia Z5 is quite lame too. Should have made pink available at launch.

Paul • 8 years ago

It appears that B&H Photo will be selling the Z5 Compact E5803. http://www.bhphotovideo.com...

paul_cus • 8 years ago

Bought the international model.

Manuel Maldonado Turcios • 8 years ago

Bought Galaxy Note 5. :(

David Horvath • 8 years ago

The prices on expansys are lower than the USA models... plus you get Japan certification and the fingerprint sensor on those versions.

Huge Xperia fan and have one of each in every color since the first Z, but baffled by Sony mobile USA.

Vicky • 8 years ago

For chrissake where's the goddamn marshmallow update?

raju • 8 years ago

I want z5 compact from India

Sir William • 8 years ago

I bought an international version.

CloudWing93 • 8 years ago

I love their products but their supports sucks. Its even worse than Verizon's and that's saying something. The two mixed together is a lack luster experience. I think I'm done buying Sony products.

crazychef83 • 8 years ago

Well i Pulled the trigger on the Z5 Premium when it was first available. This is the first time that I am going to say this.

Sony really needs to re focus and think how to get in the US market. Can't they do a World launch all at the same time. I'm sure that they could even make a phone available right after they present it. if they could do that I think they would break what everyone is use to waiting for a few months after presentation.

RockStar2005 • 8 years ago

They kinda DID do that when they released the Z3 (my current phone) back in September 2014. T-Mobile got it like 6 weeks later (October 29th), which I say is not great but really good. So they ARE capable of doing it, they just keep choosing not too. They need to do that, advertise much more in the U.S. than they are, and get all 4 major carriers on board!! Most ppl don't wanna pay for their phone upfront, including me.

They need to get some big name actors on board to do advertisements. Forget Bond.......... how about George Clooney? How about Bradley Cooper? I dunno....... J. Law?! The last 2 already work for Sony anyway. I still like Clooney the best, but why not try different actors out? They need to go BIG in 2016 or go home. And by "go BIG" I mean in the U.S. In European countries like Sweden, they advertise a lot and there they're as big if not bigger than Samsung! Sounds like some Twilight Zone sh*t lol, but who says it can't be like that here?! F Samsung and their antiquated physical home buttons. Yuck!

agramonte • 8 years ago

Nice, wish they do what HTC did with the A9 and got Band 7 and WiFi calling on Tmobile even if not from the tmobile store. I had to go back to a Tmobile branded Z3 so I could get the wi-fi calling again. I would get the compact right away.

fluxx • 8 years ago

Wow, I did not realize that it is not available in the U.S. yet.
