This post sounds bias and manufactured, even the scholars views, in scope, did the Jews know they were going to be burned, did africans implement chattel slavery; the jews follow the German's orders, we know the length to these facts intrinsically-{this article is emphatically bias} chattel slavery was not the practice of west africans. The slaves that were brought to america were brought against their will and enslaved against their will; they were stripped of their culture and then domestically colonized, as well brain washed ideologically and forced by american Proselytism to believe in a religion that no more served them as an answer to salvation then the jews who were killed in the Crematoria & Gas Chambers. Millions of slaves, were killed in transport to america and other countries. White racism during chattel slavery and systematically and institutionally after it was abolished, although it was still advertently practiced; the implementation of jim crow, segregation and institutional structural racism continued a mutated legacy of {lynching} chattel slavery. To blame african chiefs for 1600 to 2015- the legacy of chattel slavery and the many racist institutions mutated at it's abolishment is insane. The atrocities that transpired before 1865 and after, including the colonization of the africa continent, goes beyond the scope of the defeat of hitler and the beginning of a life long restoration of jewish dignity, psychology, religiously, geographically, economically and so on and on until today. This article is ridiculous and it's point.

There is a lot of history you have not read of Africa and also of America. After slaves were freed they began to fit into society and prosper. Then came Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt . Wilson showed the film "The Birth of a Nation" 1915 version in the White House. These men were not conducive to the health and welfare of Blacks. Notice who has kept racism stirred up? You may find for 100 years it has been a strategy of the communist party for control. Did some research on the emancipation of Blacks until discovered Allen West had already traveled this path. (youtube Allen West, Black History Month). Today in a national election Blacks vote over 90% for the party of the clan. Look up the vote for the 1964 civil rights bill democrats had previously filibustered. After three civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi the democratic party was in trouble, also Blacks were seeking recognition within the party so a charade was needed to save the party. LBJ made this evident by his statement afterwards and asking Martin Luther King to change his registration as a condition for his signing the bill. Watched the Democratic party cease to exist with the death of JFK. So for the last 53 years they have gone far left and what has the party done for Blacks? Best thing that could ever happen to lift a burden from Blacks is the end of the Democratic Party. Who can name the three states that had as many or more Black slave owners as white?

Raushaun Rigsby • 5 years ago

Another denying Black individual. YOU are the problem, you are ridiculous, most slaves were sold to Brazil, which has the largest population of Blacks outside of Africa, and AFRICANS were the slave sellers. There would have been no slavery without Africans selling slaves, it's called facilitation of the production line, as if Africans on a continent with millions would have refused to sell slaves to whites who numbered in the thousands, it would have been impossible for slavery to exist. This is the TRUTH, but you're so shuttered in your illusions that you will never acknowledge this truth.

The slaves that were brought to america were brought against their will

Because they had been captured by Africans and sold into slavery.

they were stripped of their culture

Being marched hundreds of miles to the sea whilst wearing a yoke and having your African captors beating you the whole way will do that.

White racism during chattel slavery and systematically and institutionally after it was abolished

Thank goodness for all the white people who abolished it, eh?

the implementation of jim crow, segregation and institutional structural racism

...are not slavery, and are completely irrelevant to any discussion of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

To blame african chiefs for 1600 to 2015

What took place between 1600 and 2015? Slavery in Africa began thousands of years ago, and the Transatlantic Slave Trade took place from the 1440s to the 1860s. In both of these cases, the African chiefs are the ones who enslaved the Africans who were victims of such slavery.

and the many racist institutions mutated at it's abolishment is insane.

Please find me a single person who has ever blamed Jim Crow on African chiefs. What's that? You can't? Well then.

The atrocities that transpired before 1865 and after, including the colonization of the africa continent

Did no-one ever tell you that the European conquest of Africa was undertaken because the Europeans were trying to force the Africans to give up slavery? ;)

Never any mention of the IRISH SLAVES who were 5 schillings ,while black slaves were 50 schillings, causing the blacks to hold the easy "house" positions~(nanny,cook,livery,companion,handyman,laundry,cleaners,gardening,seamstrss,nursery,maid,butler,etc..) ~and IRISH to be worked to DEATH as expendable! IRISH were not allowed to have family members with them~EVER!,scrounged for food and scraps,no huts, had to sleep outdoors or in smelly barns with the animals, no clothes,no heat.fires,no belongings,etc..The female IRISH SLAVES were raped and bred with black slaves to produce mulatto slaves for more money than the WHITE IRISH SLAVES!

"This should have been no secret, and it's great that the details are available in spite of incomplete information in the history books. HOWEVER, white Americans need to realize that these facts from history DO NOT justify the efforts of white supremacists to use such information to downplay the unjust treatment of black people in more modern times in this nation. The Jim Crow laws were purely racially motivated, and while such laws did find ways to diminish the rights of some white people - especially those who were NOT racist jerks, or those who fell in love with a black person and were forbidden to interact with the people they loved, or those white people who were murdered because they sought to reverse such laws - the overwhelming effect of such laws and the attendant attitudes was to create a hostile environment for people of color, merely because of their race. Even after the Jim Crow laws had been brought down, the lingering effects are of course, what many modern black people refer to - correctly - as "systemic racism". The issue then is NOT just "Which group enslaved which other group" in the early years after formation of the USA, but te modern consequences derived from the MENTALITY that was ubiquitous among the Confederate "heroes" in the American Civil War, and remained so for so long after that, and REMAINS EVEN TO THIS DAY, among "leaders" in too many sectors of white American society."

(See https://www.youtube.com/wat...

A lot of black people buy into this lie because they want to feel better about their own ancestors situation as slaves. A "we weren't the only ones," way to boost their egos and self respect. It's the same reason many blacks believe that most or all of the North African Barbary pirates were black, because it makes them feel like, "We enslaved those crackas too," when in fact most Corsairs weren't black. This is all the same reason why so many want to believe the Moors were primarily or all black, "We conquered Europe and taught them how to bate," not true in so many ways.

This is not true. North Africa was not black in the sense of sub-Saharan genetic ancestry. Nubia was about it. Egypt, Morocco and the whole N.African coastline was populated by a lighter-skinned non-white people; some Semitic, others Assyrian, and so on, with genetic links to the people of the Near East.

There is no confusing your feelings with FACTS!!! I went on your Disqus profile and viewed your threads and you are focused on hate and discontinent, not the Truth. This man makes the Truth Clear, but you refuse to see it. If you were in Junior High or High School prior to about 1982 like many of us that already knew this; we had learned this back then. Many old movie references will have English referring to the Irish as "Bloody Convicts", "Bug Irish Convicts", "Bog Trotters",
"Carrot Tops" (for their red hair) and many of a bunch of other derogatory terms.His history is dead on. Do to the horrendous atrocities forced on the non-catholic people of all of Great Britain by Queen Mary (aka Bloody Mary, Queen Elizabeth's older Half Sister);
"Elizabeth I viewed the 1559 Religious Settlement as an Act of State, which was to establish a proper
relationship between the Crown and the Church. Elizabeth desperately wanted to repair all the damage that had been caused within her kingdom in the previous decades under the name of religion." (historylearningsite.co.uk. The History Learning Site, 17 Mar 2015. 16 Aug 2016).

Things went much further. The Catholics working underground to regain control of England were battling against those in Elizabeth's court that wanted total retribution for all the people Bloody Mary and the Catholic Church had slaughtered. King James 1 then had 30,000 Irish prisoners shipped to the Americas to be sold as slaves. Not only does that remove the cost of housing, feeding and guarding these prisoners, but it also put coin back into the Kings coffers. Once Slavery was abolished in England and the International slave trade was shut down, this speaker is precisely correct, that Australia was opened up as an English penal colony. No longer "Slaves" these Irish and Scots from England were sent to labor camps in Australia.

The fist one opened in 1788 after the US had defeated Britain in the Revolutionary War. Britain could no longer dump their criminals and undesirables on the US shores, so they proceeded to drop them in Australia (http://www.history.com/this....

Anyway you look at it. Yes White Slavery Was Real and did happen. Yes Black Slavery Was Real and did happen. Many of you forget though that slavery was going on in Africa for thousands of years before the tribes started it again in Africa. The Egyptians did not build the pyramids, slaves did. White Black and brown slaves built the pyramids. Also remember that the White Europeans did not come into central Africa and capture slaves. Black Africans captured Black Africans and enslaved them, then sold them to White Europeans.

FEDUPAmerican1 • 7 years ago

No one said white slavery did not happen, in fact the world slave comes from the root word Slav, the point being argued is this. Not one white person was a slave in the USA, now in the Carribean they were political prisons, in the Americas they were indentured servants, big difference. And if and that is a big freaking if, they learned real quick that they were better than any so called "Black". Now dispute that with your BULL SPIT.

If anyone, black or white, believes that slavery in America was only an African experience, then they’ve got it completely wrong.

One can get a decent head start researching this topic by obtaining the following source books:
* "WHITE CARGO - The Forgotten History of Britain's White Slave In America" - by Don Jordon's and Mike Walsh
* "THE IRISH SLAVES: Slavery, indenture and Contract labor Among Irish Immigrants" by Rhetta Akamatsu
* "TO HELL OR BARBADOS: THE ETHNIC CLEANSING OF IRELAND" by Sean O'Callaghan

The Irish slave trade began when King James II initially sold 50,000 Irish prisoners as slaves (note - imagine how many countless wooden sailing ships it took to ship 50,000 human beings as cargo to get an idea of the initial scale of Irish being sold as slaves into the Colonies and the West Indies) to the New World. His Proclamation of 1625 required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English settlers in the West Indies. By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat. At that time, 70% of the total population of Montserrat were Irish slaves.

King Charles I also led a continued effort to enslave the Irish. Britain’s famed Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing one’s next door neighbor in massive acts of genocide as well as massive Irish slave export operations.

Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves to the New World were actually white.

From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well.

During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.

Many people today will avoid calling the Irish slaves what they truly were: Slaves. They’ll come up with terms like “Indentured Servants” to describe what occurred to the Irish. However, in most cases from the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle.

As an example, the African slave trade was just beginning during this same period. It is well recorded that African slaves, not tainted with the stain of the hated Catholic theology and more expensive to purchase, were often treated far better than their Irish counterparts.

African slaves were very expensive during the late 1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling). If a planter whipped or branded or beat an Irish slave to death, it was never a crime. A death was a monetary setback, but far cheaper than killing a more expensive African. The English masters quickly began breeding the Irish women for both their own personal pleasure and for greater profit. Children of slaves were themselves slaves, which increased the size of the master’s free workforce. Even if an Irish woman somehow obtained her freedom, her kids would remain slaves of her master. Thus, Irish moms, even with this new found emancipation, would seldom abandon their kids and would remain in servitude.

In time, the English thought of a better way to use these women (in many cases, girls as young as 12) to increase their market share: The settlers began to breed Irish women and girls with non English speaking African men to produce and raise English speaking slaves with a distinct complexion. These new English speaking “mulatto” slaves brought a much higher price than either recently imported African or Irish livestock and, likewise, enabled the settlers to save money rather than purchase new African slaves. This practice of interbreeding Irish females with African men went on for several decades and was so widespread that, in 1681, legislation was passed “forbidding the practice of mating Irish slave women to African slave men for the purpose of producing slaves for sale.” In short, it was stopped only because it interfered with the profits of a large slave transport company.

England continued to ship tens of thousands of Irish slaves for more than a century. Records state that, after the 1798 Irish Rebellion, thousands of Irish slaves were sold to both America and Australia. There were horrible abuses of both African and Irish captives. One British ship even dumped 1,302 slaves into the Atlantic Ocean so that the crew would have plenty of food to eat.

There is little question that the Irish experienced the horrors of slavery as much (if not more in the 17th Century) as the Africans did. There is, also, very little question that those brown, tanned faces you witness in your travels to the West Indies are very likely a combination of African and Irish ancestry. In 1839, Britain finally decided on it’s own to end it’s participation in Satan’s highway to hell and stopped transporting slaves. While their decision did not stop pirates from doing what they desired, the new law slowly concluded THIS chapter of nightmarish Irish misery.

But, if anyone, black or white, believes that slavery was only an African experience, then they’ve got it completely wrong.

Irish slavery is a subject worth remembering, not erasing from our memories.

But, where are our public (and PRIVATE) schools???? Where are the history books? Why is it so seldom discussed?

Do the memories of hundreds of thousands of Irish victims merit more than a mention from an unknown writer?

Or is their story to be one that their English pirates intended: To (unlike the African book) have the Irish story utterly and completely disappear as if it never happened.

None of the Irish victims ever made it back to their homeland to describe their ordeal. These are the lost slaves; the ones that time and biased history books conveniently forgot.

_----------------------------
In a terrible twist of ironic fate, Irish born immigrants whom were escaping British induced death by starvation of the Irish on their own land during the eras of "The Great Hungers" in efforts to force them off their lands, upon arriving in US Ports on "Coffin Ships" (fully one third usually perished in the trans Atlantic voyage of starvation related diseases) during America's Civil War, whilst exiting those Coffin Ships, coming down the coffin ships' gangplanks, those starving, near death Irishmen were subjected to Lincoln's new Conscription Law, i.e. - unless they had $300 USD to purchase their freedom ... which of course none of them had. As a consequence, many, many, many thousands of these poor Irish souls, whom came here to save themselves from starvation, whom had a much longer history of being slaves themselves than African Americans did, whom, nor their ancestors, never having owned slaves were used as human fodder and sacrificed by the Union Army, i.e. - killed in the American Civil War to free the African slaves. It is supremely ironic that many, many, many more Irish immigrants died to free African slaves than African slaves died to free African slaves. Notably, I doubt there is any records of Africans dying to save Irish slaves or having died on behalf of the Irish in any of Irelands revolutionary wars to gain its independence.

Not that any Irishmen or women expects any, but re concurrent concept of reparations for slavery, its a bizarre twist as well as an historical fact that African Americans owe reparations to the descendants of those Irish natives.

John Thunderer • 7 years ago

Everything you say - according to the research conducted for the publication "White Cargo" is correct but there is an added dimension also mentioned in the same publication, which is that Scottish and English poor people and military prisoners were also enslaved or semi-enslaved.
They became indentured labour and had to pay for their own transportation to the Americas, where they were subjected to long periods of unpaid labour over numbers of years.
Whereas black slaves had "value" in that they could be bought and sold, ethnically British workers did not have the same "value" as they could not be bought and sold as property of their owners.
As a result, the working conditions and care extended to European slaves was far worse than that given to the more valuable black slaves and - as a result - most indentured labourers did not survive the period of their legally binding indentured labour.
A few managed to get to the end of their contracted period of free (for their employers) labour but the vast majority died alone and worn out, being buried anywhere convenient in unmarked graves.
It is easy - far far far too easy - for us all to allow the ruling elite in any time and in any place to deploy the divisive tactics of "them and us" against us all.
What we who are not part of the wealthy elite should always remember is that the real "they" - those who have always enjoyed the best that life can offer - have always acted like parasites on "us".
Huge fortunes have been made historically - and continue being made even today - by a rich ruthless group of individuals who stop at nothing to protect their fortunes and privileged positions in so-called "polite" society.
Even nouveau riche arrivistes like Philip Green, who have left thousands dead and penniless can still somehow thrive on their luxury yachts at the expense of tens of thousands of former workers who gave him and others like him their loyalty and their working lives - and got nothing in return.
Yes, it is a class thing at the end of the day.
Do we side with the exploiting class and hope for a few crumbs from their table or do we side with one another in order to bring about a fairer and more just world for ourselves and everyone?
The answer to this question ought to be obvious but time and time again we "ordinary" people have allowed the "ruling" elites to divide us one from another.
When will we all finally learn the real lesson of history?

John Thunderer • 7 years ago

It is not my modern-day values that are in question but the values attributed to black slaves by their 18th and 19th Century owners.
From their perspective - if slaves survived the Atlantic crossing - they became their property for life, just like all the cattle, sheep and pigs, etc. owned by their "master"
That is how they perceived them - not me.

But their rights, and the terms of their bondage were different. They were indebted for a set amount of labor/service, and once served they were granted their freedom. How they were treated is a fair topic of course to braoch, but put simply: they were not slaves.

I say this not to diminish how poorly they were treated, but, to discuss the topic rationally we have to distinguish between people serving an indenture, and people who were owned outright, and whose status as slave was hereditary.

Those are two different things, and we can't lose sight of that fact when analyzing these matters

What? Hey, NINA was a fact of American life. And now we demand rap-arations. Pay up Englishman! Now here's a little Educational enlightenment for you with a twist at the end of the story. When the Irish came here they were a defeated people. They'd just lost a 400 year war with the English. Education was forbidden to them, So was the wearing of any green on their bodies, or the speaking of Gaelic. They were forbidden from attending religious ceremonies and priests set up altars behind rocks on the hillsides. Cromwell in the 1300's Killed everything living in Ireland, even the birds and the beast, lest an Irishman eat it and live another day. Then the Potato famine, killed off 1/2 the population, all the while the English were exporting Irish cattle to England to supply their restaurants. The fish in the rivers were the property of the King of England and were forbidden to the Irish to fish for and eat. The Irish ate seaweed and grass and died with green mouths. This was, in fact, an act of ethnic/racial genocide. I could go on and on with this horrendous story, but I won't, I'll get to the ending. After coming to America as the lowest of the low, they, in less than 100 year attained a level of education fully one year more than the average English American, better educated, they also earned more money annually that the average Englishman. We beat the English handily on a level playing field, despite serious obstacles set up in our path. Here those said to be inferior to the Mutt Race English.... Mutt Race???? Huh?? Yep, The Irish are largely Celtic, with a mix of Norman and Viking. The English? A mutt race, Angels, Jutes, Picts, Saxons, Romans, Celts, Normans and Basques and don't forget the Vikings. Mutt race indeed. All that can be said about it. Shouldn't surprise us then that they hold on so tightly to their monarchy. It's very natural for a people feeling themselves to be inferior put on the aires of a people who are superior. And this is exactly what the unattractive Britons have done with their pomp and circumstance. And good for them. If it makes them happy, we Irish are happy for them. Moral of the story, the Irish topped the English on the level playing field of American. We're just a tad smarter than you are. But who's bragging?

Rob ONeill • 8 years ago

Lastly, as a tribute to the magnanimity of the Irish... We don't even hold a serious grudge against the English and are quite content to live with them as if we'd always had the cheeriest of relations. Now that's true Bigness!
