"It’s also odd that Clara, with access to a time machine, has never asked to see what her school looked like before she was born..." Er, is it? Why would her workplace fifty years ago be on her list of things to do with the whole of space and time at her disposal?

I'm still not sold on 'Class' as either a concept or a title. The concept sounds like an extension of the worst bits of the otherwise excellent series eight, with the likes of Maebh, Ruby and especially Courtney making me shout at the TV gods to let the monsters take them. The title is just daft and will likely have a hashtag "#" attached to it in time.

I'll still watch it – I'll watch anything flying under the Doctor Who banner – but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It's got Moffat, Minchin and Ness, so we know it's in capable hands, but my hopes are not especially high. Hopefully Peter Capaldi can be persuaded to show up in it? At the very least it's something to fill the time between seasons of Doctor Who so we can't complain about that. Let's at least give 'Class' a chance, see if it delivers.

I think if they can get the tone right and reach the audience they are aiming for, it could be good. As Ness keeps stressing, it's not SJA#2 as the audience is young adults not CBBC and they will tackle fairly strong issues. BBC won't want to harm the main Who brand and they have deliberately included this in the DW universe, so there must be some thinking behind those links. This could have been launched like the woeful Aliens v Wizards as completely distinct from Who, but it has been completely tied to it. I am really intrigued to see the links. It would be great if time travel was involved and how fantastic if there were nods to previous visitors to Coal Hill, including of course Doc 1, Susan, Barbara and Ian, as well as Ace, Doc 7 and of course Clara and Doc 12. I am positive that Capaldi will make a visit in one form or another but I suspect the links to the main show might be fairly loose.
As it is starting to look inevitable that circumstances beyond control (also known as accommodating the all mighty Sherlock) will force a delay in getting a full series 10, this might fill the spot nicely, along with the fantastic River Song and War Doctor BF releases, but I think it would be doing the show a discredit to consider it a substitute or Who-light. It's clearly going to be its very own thing.

This really does look great. I don't think SJA is the best analogue though as this is aimed at the YA market and is Iikely to tackle some strong themes. The fact that Brian Minchin and Steven Moffat are oversighting is also very positive as they will ensure the right kind of links to the mother ship show. While it would be great if Peter could appear, I don't think it necessary as the Doctor's presence will be felt without being there. If it does occur, hopefully it will be as brilliant as Matt Smith's appearance in SJA.

Wembley isn't just down the road from Shoreditch. Completely different parts of London.
