Gavin, thank you for the thorough analysis of cultural Marxism, complete with concrete examples of effects in the Church.

And I agree that "these two languages produce two world views and two anthropologies that are in direct opposition to one another." Finally understanding the double speak in TEC (particularly as TEC had twisted the hierarchy of love), I departed.

May our Sovereign Lord grant courage to those in the Church of England who face the decision which you have noted. And may God be glorified.

I certainly hope and pray that it can be done. Whatever happens, it will be "Thy will be done".

'alternative episcopal oversight'. This was what some of the Anglo-Catholic churches in the CofE (Forward in Faith churches) sought for a long time, and led to the 'flying bishops'. A (temporary?) accommodation was reached in which they could retain this 'alternative episcopal oversight'. How long it will last is anybody's guess. The wrath of the liberals has not been assuaged. The Anglo-Catholics as a whole, like the Evangelical wing of the Church, are divided between the 'liberals' and those who hold to the traditional and orthodox faith. My guess is that the CofE will eventually split.

Thanks for a challenging article, which I have passed on to others.

This is only challenging to people who equate Christianity with bigotry and racism

Well said Rev. Ashenden - what is particularly of interest is the way those wishing to pull apart orthodox thinking often tell us that we are invited to a 'conversation' among equals. The reality is that the terms of the discussion and the outcomes wanted from it appear to be already pre determined. Those with what is presented with non-absolutist and relativistic views are in fact very definite with what they believe and what they want to achieve:

Thank you, Gavin for this very clear description of the current situation, which has been ongoing for some time. However I hope you are wrong about the CofE going the same way as TEC. There are still many faithful congregations and their leaders in the CofE, more so I would say than in the Episcopal Church at a similar stage in 'development'. At the moment they seem to be keeping their heads down. It could well be that the issue of accepting Gay Marriage will force many to stand up and say 'thus far and no further'. After all I think it is true that the churches which have the largest congregations and contribute the most money to the CofE are evangleical and bible-based. Centrally TEC has enormously valuable property holdings on Manhattan Island is able to finance its operations, especially the lawsuits, without regard to the financial support they may or may not receive from congregations. Although the CofE has the Church Commissioners I don't think their funds could be used in the same way.

If a new Anglican Jurisdiction is formed in the British Isles,I hope that it takes a different path from Anglican Church in North America--a path that is marked by faithfulness to the Bible, the historic Anglican formularies, the Anglican Church's Reformation heritage, and a synodical form of government. The African Church has not done a very good job of ensuring that the ACNA is Biblically-faithful and fully Anglican. This is quite evident from the ACNA's catechism, its proposed Prayer Book, and its form of government. Doctrinally and liturgically the ACNA is more unreformed Catholic than Anglican. At its provincial level its form of government resembles that of a sub-division of the Roman Catholic Church than of an Anglican province. The GAFCON Theological Resource Group has identified unreformed Catholicism as a major challenge to the authority of the Bible and the historic Anglican formularies in the Anglican Communion along with liberalism. Yet the GAFCON leaders have done nothing to discourage its growth in the ACNA and its exclusion of Anglicans faithful to the Bible and the Anglican formularies and standing in the Anglican Church's Reformation heritage. The doctrinal beliefs and worship practices of this group of Anglicans do not enjoy official standing in the ACNA and the school of thought it represents has no place in its formularies.

Do you know the ACNA intimately - from the inside? As a former member who has moved on to continuing Anglicanism, I think the charismatic movement and it's bastard child the church growth movement is much more a threat to ACNA than Anglo-Catholics. ACNA is headed by an Evangelical Abp. and uses primarily evangelical seminaries for clergy formation. You have greatly over-stated the Anglo-Catholic influence in ACNA.
