So does Iphone 7. I bought an Iphone 7 a month ago. Immediately people were remarking that they couldn't hear me well. After hanging up and calling again the quality seemed better. Initially I thought it was the quality of the server/the area where I was or being in a car. Yet the problem kept presenting itself. So I decided to go back to the store. To my surprise the sales person told me it is 'a known problem of Iphone 7, that the microphone doesn't work well'. So, GOOD service would mean that they give you straight there and then a new phone. Nope, needed to empty the phone, no replacement ... waited for 2 weeks, then today I went back the problem was fixed they said. It was a software problem. Ok, whatever....we needed to upload my backup on the phone... now the button to switch on the phone doesn't work.... and again not an easy ...WE made a mistake by supplying 'faulty' goods,.... NO, I could leave the phone again... within 2 weeks I can return to the shop and get my phone.... APPLE sucks when it comes to customer service! This will be my last return....

Jonas • 6 years ago

Hi!
A reason why your friends can't hear you while speaking is that the "new speaker" isn't a speaker. It's actually your microphone. Try to play some music and cover the "new speaker" and you won't hear a difference. But try to call someone and cover it! There was no reason for iPhone to remove the headphone jack other than reciving more money due to the reason everyone who makes headphone for iPhone 7 have to pay apple in order to make them. The new speaker is on the top of your phone, and while your speaking, your finger can easily cover the microphone hole.

So I've used an Android phone, I could last only 3 months. last night I went and bought an iPhone after work. Couldn't be more happy. Android is sucks in many ways, the only advantage I see is a battery size, but comes with a bulky droid design. Can't really talk bad about missing 3.5mm jack for headphones, I got sick of wires, so I also bought wireless BeatsX and now I couldn't care less for 3.5 mm jack.

Melissa • 7 years ago

I got my 7 less than 4 months ago and have had nothing but problems with it! I've been a loyal Mac user since '03 and this is by far the worst product they've ever come out with! This morning my home button would not work, I couldn't access any of my apps or hit the home screen. The only reason I was able to call Customer Service was because I was able to enter my pass code and slide the screen over to the phone screen. I was on the line with them for HOURS! They couldn't even find my records! I have an Ipad, a Macbook Pro and an Iphone 7. Like I said, I've been a loyal customer since '03! How the hell do you not find my records? After all that time speaking to "representatives" the problem is still not solved and my phone is crap. I can receive calls but it's basically not working for anything else. I'm done with the Iphone, I want money back and a different phone. I was told by the last representative that the phone "might fix itself". Seriously?! For the amount of money they're charging for these things I expect the damn thing to work all the time!

I switched from Android to Apple and I am happier with Apple. As far as standby, the iPhone 7 Plus will only lose about 1 to 2% battery life overnight. On my Samsung Galaxy phone, it would lose 10-15% battery charge overnight. IOS, everyone gets the same update at the same time. With Androids, you have to upgrade more frequently to get the latest version of Android. The only Android phone now to consider would the be Pixel. On my Galaxy phone, I upgraded to the next version of Android and the phone's OS was full of glitches and ran very slow. I contacted Samsung and they told me it would be nine months or more before I could get the fix Android had for the problem. I would have had to upgrade to a later Galaxy phone just to get the fix on the OS. At least on Apple, if there is an IOS glitch, Apple has a fix rather quickly and everyone gets the update at the same time. On Android phones, if your phone is a year or more older, you have to pray you get the next update if your phone is having problems and a fix is available. Also, I notice Samsung Galaxy phones slows down at times, the iPhone is fast and I do not notice any slow downs even through the iPhone specs are inferior to Samsung's specs. I see comments about the headphone jack. I wished Apple did not take it out, but it is not the end of the world. I do like the stereo sound on the iPhone 7 Plus when playing music or video with the phone's speakers. Also, I like the camera in this phone too. I have plenty of storage, 128GB, the middle tier on storage.

Two things that i didn't like in the iPhone 7 , missing of the heaphone's Jack and battery with fast draining;I hope they will do better the next time

Vaulter Chuck • 7 years ago

The iPhone 7 is stupid as hell. If it had a headphone jack it'd be fine, but now I have to rely on carrying a fucking adapter with me at all times just so I can listen to music it's such an inconvienence for me. Countless times I have found myself in a car wanting to take control of the music, but no I can't because the person I'm with has a sensible phone with the same jack that everyone, and everything still uses. How naive is apple to think that their product will just change the course of all other technologies currently in use. Fuck apple and fuck their stupid adapter

You know that some people will sh*t on everything - stupid fanboys.
My Xiaomi Mi5 Pro has 3000 mAh battery and i have on it 4h-4h30min SoT which means for me 2 days of use since im not someone who spends whole day on a phone ... and You see that iPhone 7 has 1960 mAh battery and it still can get nearly 5h of use so ...

Anyone defending Apple removing the headphone jack is just an irrational person and / or a fan boy. The battery is small in comparison to other much more powerful phones so the only reason to remove it is to sell much more expensive wireless headphones (they hope you're also dumb enough to buy Apple branded ones).

JosAlpha • 7 years ago

just dunno why Apple are using so much NR is the image processing, it obliterates detail (even at base iso)... look at the comparison between the S7 and the iPhone 7 (the shot of the church) enlarge it, the iPhone 7 looks like a water color painting compared to the S7, (look at the detail of the stones etc, looks horrible on iPhone 7) and the reviewer says he like the 'natural look' of the photos, seriously!

I just bought an i7 couple weeks back, it got slipped from my pocket & the screen got shattered.. And the best part is I had the temper glass on top of it which had no scratches however the i7 glass got shattered into pieces.. is the i7 really made of gorilla glass ???Im totally unhappy with the product as Im using Mac book & 5s till now I could say i7 is the worst apple product ever..which could not handle a single slip from the pocket with has not even a distance of 3 feet.,when I reached out to apple service the most shocking thing is they have no glass replacement for i7 in India & they have asked me to wait for a month with the broken glass or I can to replace the entire set for like 25K seriously ?? heights..she was so irresponsible (case id: 100053937112).. I regret buying i7 now.. its not worth buying..

I have iphone7+ and have done my latest update 10.0.3 and I can say as of today I have connectivity issue. The phone does not connect to 4G and I have checked with other network providers who has IPhone7 and they all complain the same. Its interesting that 6 and 6+ do not have connectivity issue over 4G where as 7 and 7+ has.

I went from iPhone 6s 64GB to iPhone 7 256GB and I find I need to recharge the phone a lot more , videoing is crappy , phone freezes and needs rebooted at least once or twice a day if it weren't for spending all that $ on the 7 I would gladly go back to my 6

jonah • 7 years ago

So you went from the large 6s (larger battery)to the smaller 7 and wonder why your battery life isn't as good? Is that right? Don't you see why...
If your phone is having problem take it to there Apple store that is the plus of buying an Apple phone.. All the best.

First, I'm not an Apple Fanboy, so I'm not coming with that bias. After reading your review, which was very thorough and well done, I'm left wondering why a phone as great as your review reveals is a "Don't Buy." Battery life is important, of course, especially if one's phone is his entire tech setup, but there are easy and inexpensive ways to deal with that problem. After reading your review, I'd come away with the opposite of your opinion on buying. My big negative with iPhones (have owned 4 including the current 7 Plus, but am always running a pure Android phone, too) is the screen. I know they made it better, but it's still a very low rent excuse of a screen. Gorilla glass? Oled?
At least you didn't carry on too long about the headphone jack! Couldn't care less about that, and would rather have the semi-waterproof design.

Andrew • 7 years ago

I upgraded from a 6 to the 7, deliberated for a while but glad I made the switch. I personally don't see any reason to change designs every two years - just to keep the press happy.

Overall the battery life is the biggest thing I notice (contrary to this article) in a
positive way. I'm a medium user, don't play clash of clans all day or
watch Netflix, but I do use it continually for texting, calling, surfing,
financial apps, Strava, etc. With the 6 I had to recharge before the end
of the day, now I'm able to run to late evening and have 20-30% battery left. I don't
understand sites like this saying "android is better" because they
have all run articles (as have other such sites) proving that iPhones and iOS
handles it's juice way better. Making the phone huge and adding a massive
battery is not a solution for many of us that don't want a phablet.

I'm also very impressed with the camera, which I use often. The brighter
screen, that I use all the time. The home button (no longer physical) -
continual usage. Water-resistance - videos on YouTube suggest it's very
much more capable than Apple's rating. 3D Touch - Excellent and still learning all I can do with it. I even love the simple things, like the phone turning on as you lift it towards you, great for checking notifications on the lock screen. The fingerprint scanner is now stupidly fast too.

Not bothered at all about the headphone jack. There's an adapter for my
Momentum's and my others are Bluetooth.

The Black (I have Matt) is beautiful.

The argument is "wait for the iPhone 8". Well that's all well and
good, and it will be stunning, BUT. It will be generation 1 of the new
design. It will have small flaws that need sorting out at release.
It will NOT restore your beloved headphone jack. And there's nothing stopping 7 owners upgrading to an 8 either ;-)

scoobydooby • 7 years ago

if you think making it a full day with 20-30% is good, you have no clue how much better Android can be in this regard. Android is WAY better with battery.. especially with the latest OS. Not just a little.. a LOT.
A well setup Android handset like my OnePlus 3 can go 2 1/2 days of regular usage before 0% and then charges from 0-80% in 40 minutes. iPhone can't hold a flame to this.. ever.
iphone 7 is currently over 1k CAD.. meanwhile my OP3 I got for $600.

"but would any other company get away with a two-year-old look for a brand-new phone?"

HTC, Sony, Samsung.....

npenfold • 7 years ago

Nearly every other review I have read say they have noticed better battery life than previous iPhones. Something I have also seen.

jonah • 7 years ago

I wonder about that also... Every other review had the battery life better...

MarmiteSoldier • 7 years ago

The first one you wouldn't recommend? I'm surprised. Since Android reached maturity with KitKat (or even Ice Cream Sandwich), Android powered handsets have consistently outperformed the iPhone in every respect. They can do far more, with greater ease, are completely customisable and aren't locked to a single manufacturer. Invariably they are cheaper too.

Mark • 7 years ago

Poor battery life?!?! Mine is much better than my old 6S

Jay Kim • 7 years ago

it should be. the battery loses it charge. your old iphone 6s is probably at 80% from when you first got it.

Mark • 7 years ago

What I mean is that it's better than my 6S when that was new, it's immediately obvious.

LeeTronix • 7 years ago

One day but probably never on here, we will read reviews that are positive and not just about this review of the iPhone 7.

That said, if people think that the bezel is to big and they do not like a form or style that has been accepted world wide then guess what - do not buy it. Oooh that was a hard decision wasn't it. I wonder if it was a completely re-designed iPhone from the ground up if they would be any more positive - probably not. I think overall you have a choice to upgrade or wait on for the next upgrade instalment. For me I am completely fine with my 6s Plus and am happy to wait a while, and I think the new iPhone 7 looks great and I like the camera updates, either way you are getting a quality phone and OS.

MontyMole • 7 years ago

Only a couple of weeks ago most sites like this were claiming the jack plug was dead. How quickly people change their minds.

Justin • 7 years ago

I'm no apple fan but it's fair to say all mobile phones have peaked, I mean what else can we realistically expect a phone to do that they don't already. I am suprised that this website is doing a review in progress on a device you could some up in a couple of sentences as it's such a ridiculously modest refresh. I'd prefer a bit more coverage on the lg v20, that's a far more interesting phone from what I can see

Evan • 7 years ago

Unfortunately as far as we know LG has little interest in releasing the V20 Europe. We will try and get a review in once it is available though.

There's a bit more to the iPhone than that, and the fact is that while it might seem like a modest upgrade, the iPhone 7 is still the most read about phone in the world right now.

jay • 7 years ago

lets start with a question why apple does not do the next step? samsung working with Spen edge features GEAR VR, LG and Motorola works on modeler phones and try to find there way. forced touch is maybe good but not an innovation like fast charging wireless charging. amazon has there ECHO and google working on chromcast and bringing new things on the table and what does apple do for three generation? NOTHING. does the design need to change? NO but move on maybe a bigger screen on the iphone 7

Justin • 7 years ago

I use an iPhone 6s for work and a s7 edge for personal use, the iPhone 7 is totally pointless and a clear indication that apples mobile inovation is dead. I still cannot believe people buy these things at the ridiculous price apple charges when they are so basic and limited. No expandable storage is a joke in 2016 and that even counts on ipads which are apparently media devices! Perhaps it's time that phones are released on a 2 year refresh so that they can actually offer inovation instead of removing a head phone jack and dressing that up as forward progress. I'm sure it will sell well as the apple zombies will be camping out for its release for the amusement of the sane as usual

scoobydooby • 7 years ago

- No expandable storage > also still offering only 32GB storage? Srsly?
- No changeable battery
- Lackluster Battery life - Far inferior to what you can get on Android phones that are hundreds of dollars cheaper.
- No Fast Charging > takes full 2 hours to charge up iPhone where many Android devices can charge fully in an hour.
- Mediocre screen resolution considering some Android handsets are Quad HD already
- Headphone jack removed just so they could obtain IP67 and sell more accessories for more $$$
- Body is strengthened but what about screen? Still vulnerable to cracks without Gorilla Glass compared to Android handsets

Beyond a bit better camera and better CPU/GPU performance, there is virtually no reason to buy a 7 over the 6S. IMO that is a fail phone in the Apple realm and a super fail in the smart phone realm. SO MANY better handsets out there than this one for so much cheaper.

Maxik • 7 years ago

- No expandable storage is not a con ... in times where You use cloud etc. Ofcourse there's still people that don't use it. I bought my Mi5 with 128 GB of memory, and i still wonder why the heck i have bought it. After 2 months of use i still have 105 GB free space ... and i have alot of photos.
- No changeable battery - seriously? Samsung Galaxy s7/s7 Edge dont have it either ... also new Moto Z series dont have it and many other phones. Only LG G5 has it with LG V10/20 - im talking about flagship phones, not budget phones.
- Headphone jack removed is not a big deal ... WHO THE F**K listen to music while phone is on charge? I dont get it ... Moreover You don't need to buy bluetooth headest made by apple, theres alot of companys that makes bluetooth headsets with great sound quality and You don't need to pay for it "premium" cash.
- About screen ... every phone has sh*t front panel, You know why? Because it's made out of glass, thats why.

Ofcourse there alot good phones which are much cheaper. But You know ... it's future owner of the device choice what to use. You cant say to anyone: "Go buy Galaxy S7 Edge, its great". It's personal choice.

lezmaka • 7 years ago

The S7 may look sharper, but it comes at a cost. Anything that has a lot of contrast has a noticeable white border. In the last picture, the entire tower in the S7 has an unnatural white border that's not present in the iphone picture, and it's not the clouds. Even in the places where there is blue sky the border is just as white as everywhere else. Once I saw it in reviews, I can't not see it.

Ruru • 7 years ago

has anyone noticed that there's a strange noise on the back of iPhone 7 plus( near the camera) while using it, downloading apps, and the noise became even noticeable while charging... it sounds like it's caused by some sort of electromagnetic Interference... As I know, it's not a single case, apparently it happens to most iPhone 7 plus. However, I have checked on the other iPhone 7 from my friend, you can still notice the noise if you put your ear close enough to the phone.. I am not sure if it only happens to the iPhones in Taiwan, as I didn't see anyone talking about this problem when I check in English.... If anyone does have this problem, or can answer why there's this issue, please reply me.. I am a bit scared it could explode... p.s. I have contacted the customer service of Apple, but they could not solve this problem , the only thing they can do is to exchange it....

Apple have quite clearly lost their way since the demise of a certain "Steve Jobs". Nothing innovative has come out of Cupertino in years, The invention of the ipod, ipad and iphone is what put Apple back on the map. They really need to start putting their energy into amazing us rather than reinventing the wheel over and over ......

mode11 • 7 years ago

There's always the Apple Watch if you want something new to play with, but that's a perfect demonstration of the fact that it's not just innovation that counts, but useful innovation.

The 2000's saw a wave of new categories, as process shrinks finally made CPU performance-per-watt good enough for thin, light, flat multimedia devices. People had been envisioning these since at least Star Trek TNG's PADD, and 1968's 2001: ASO.

That's done now, and it will take a while before miniaturisation advances far enough to open up significant new applications (mixed-reality glasses, local AI, real-time ray tracing etc.). Size reductions tend to work like that - something the size of a fridge-freezer is still big when half the size; it's only when it's 100x smaller that it 'suddenly' becomes portable. Progress may be continuous, but in practice there are thresholds that define sudden 'innovations' that come out of 'nowhere'.

Steve strived for excellence, was very well informed and took an unusually close interest in his company's products - he seemed unlikely to be impressed by bullshitters. This essentially made Apple a meritocracy, making the company very attractive to the brightest and best. It's possible that since his passing, these people are increasingly attracted to other companies / industries (Tesla?). But even if so, no one is really out-Appling Apple yet.
