The video you included was a great way to start the conversation on scientific facts supporting climate change versus what many Americans believe to be a hoax. It was an eye-opener to see someone with such great responsibility to American people deny something that needs immediate attention in order to have any effect in the long run.

A close friend of mine actually refuses to get vaccinated. I never thought to ask why but I guess I understood her concerns with letting a government establishment mandate that she get injections of which she (nor any of us) can be really sure of its contents. I still get vaccinated and I haven't done my research on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if something sketchy with that were going on. As you said, we are not the greatest country in the world. The leaders of america do not care about its citizens- they are self-interested and if harming us helps with profits, they won't hesitate. It is apparent in the food they allow in our cafeterias, the lack of concern for pollution, and I wouldn't doubt that they'd 'vaccinate' us with things that don't really prevent diseases when they have the cure to cancer but won't share it because too much money is made through cancer treatments.

You presented a lot of good examples. I have seen that scene of The Newsroom and I love it. Americans are very egotistical all the time, and need to realize that there's so much of the world they don't know. I think for America to be the "Greatest Country in the World" we (as a society) need to start acting like it. However, I think science is a hard subject to argue because religion seems to always be tied to it.

Nothing ruins a well formed argument like the denial of science. This is why science and education in general should be more important to our country.
