My experience with Eve is the only thing keeping me playing Dust. Dust, as it is now, isn't terrible, but there's still a shit ton wrong with it. However, Eve, like they said, has been and still recieveing great, constant updates.

So, assuming they treat Dust like they've treated Eve, I have no doubts its going to be a fucking great game one day. A shame it couldn't start off that way though...

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

yeah it's sad to see so much wrong with dust I want to play but right now I can't even log in, it's still a beta build, I hate when people rush out releases

usrev • 10 years ago

i think they rushed it a bit, sadly many devs have used "beta" and "demo" interchangeably on consoles so you can't release an "open beta" on console without it getting killed. they should have released dust 514 much later imo while still having the closed beta.

I play the game a bit, but it needs more to be sure.

Boomstar • 10 years ago

Some games just need to be on pc, this is one of them.

SILENTSAM69 • 10 years ago

It is funny to see people cry for it to be on PC. It will never be on PC. Just get over it.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

It will be on PC one day don't worry, you don't know CCP.

You'll just need to wait at LEAST 5 years. But the devs kept hinting at eve and dust becoming one client in the future.

Also about eve coming to Ps4 since it totally supports mouse and keyboard.

Heracles the Whoresbane • 10 years ago

Some games just need to die, this is one of them.

dieger • 10 years ago

NO the game is fine except it being clunky and confusing at times

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

To be fair it's also like hlaf finished with only 1 heavy, 2 tanks, no PvE, ect. Looking forward to playing it sometime

usrev • 10 years ago

no.

ClĂ©ment Roupioz • 10 years ago

Yeah Sure.
But Sony were scared about Dust success, so they paid CCP for exclusivity on PS3... And they fucked Dust 514.
Put this game on Playstation (And Xbox I hope) is a great idea, but exclusivity, is a suicide.

But CCP can't do something now, and they refused to addmit it.

ArataWata • 10 years ago

I'm sorry but as someone who sat down, was hyped for this and tried it, Dust514 is not a good game, it's not terrible either just incredibly mediocre for what it is.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea and I can see where they were going with this game, it's just the gameplay mechanics that are really poor.

Partimerobot • 10 years ago

One of the first things I did in the game was to jump in whatever they call their Hummer. I was immediately disappointed with the controls. All of the stuff they describe sounds really cool. I would love to board a space craft and all that, but the game play is just not their yet.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

This is a good post to point this out. The LAVs have literally had 3 completely different controls. Overall they are still TRASH, but CCP isn't the kind of company to not change something. Even if sometimes they reallllllly miss the ball.

Partimerobot • 10 years ago

The Warthog controls are already so fluid that you think it would be a no brainier to implement them. I understand wanting to do something original and different, but that should not impede functionality. I do hope this game turns around though, this whole cross game concept still has me excited. I've heard that Eve has gone through numerous changes, so I'll remain hopeful.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

yeah I completely agree. One thing to keep in mind is thankfully this game dishes out 8 million sp for free a year even if you never log in.

Because right now I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. I would be too embarrassed. And I'm a big fan of what they want to accomplish, but it's little things like not being able to get warthog controls without ****ing it up. I mean it's huge open maps. How will the jet bikes feel!

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

you are 100% right, now name another fps that will change into a new game in a year?

KillyV • 10 years ago

I agree 100% with your post. Felt the same. Just another random shooter.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

It's a random lobby shooter RIGHT NOW. But it won't be forever. Don't play it untill CCP delievers, trust me it might be 4 years down the line. They like to do that. But if no one plays maybe they will step it up.

billy balls • 10 years ago

At first, I was baffled that this guy would think its a great idea to official launch a game with a 5 year plan during a console transition year. Then, I discovered the genius behind it all:

Ps3 is breaking into these "European and Asian markets" now, and this game contributes to EVE's economy. This game could serve as full time employment for these markets if they can substantially affect a corporation's earnings. These "mercenary squads" will be like the chinese gold farmers in WoW

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

There are already tons of isk farmers :P

TheGlue29 • 10 years ago

Makes sense. Sony will in fact support the PS3 as time goes on, that much is for sure. Personally, I thought Dust was cool when I played the beta, but it seemed like you needed to take a three hour course just to figure out what weapons, suits and or vehicles to buy for your loadout.

I'd heard that CCP was making a Neocomm app for the Vita, so Dust players can tweak their loadouts on the fly...but that was a while ago and I haven't heard anything since. I might give it another chance, but from the way the reviews read, it sounds like there haven't been much improvements made since I stopped playing...which was at least seven months ago.

JackgarPrime • 10 years ago

Well they seem to definitely have a plan, so that's good. EVE's been doing great for a long time, too, so I think they at least have the business acumen to make it work.

Now it becomes a matter of the game itself being able to hold up that long in terms of quality.

SILENTSAM69 • 10 years ago

If all you do is sit in pub matches in DUST then you may think it is mediocre. If you are involved in Planetary Conquest you are involved in a far deeper and higher level of game play than any console FPS has ever provided.
The fun of working together and fighting over Districts is amazing, and is something no other console game ever could provide.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

but that system is buggy has no controls over who can fight on your team, terrible lag, no balance becuase half of the weapons are still missing.. ect ect...

SILENTSAM69 • 10 years ago

They are adding corp roles soon to help some of this, but why would you want too many controls and mechanics? It is up to your corp to organize themselves and be careful about spies.
Would you want EVE to have controls and mechanics that prevent you from doing half the stuff that makes EVE famous?
Also, balance isn't an issue. Its something people cry about to make themselves feel better. If a weapon is strong, use it. If you can't get kills with it, don't use it.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

actully es I do enjoy the 14 year long skill tree *400 skills* and corp roles of eve online. People can't just join your fleet without your permission, oh but in dust you can but that's ok because HTFU am I right?

Dust has a 45 year long skill tree, only like 80 skills, what BS.

Caeres • 10 years ago

Seems like they know what they are doing. I remember everyone hating eve when it first came out and yet it's still plodding along, just like this will be. CCP have always been good at knowing their niche. Unless another game comes out that follows a similar path better, which is doubtful considering the link to player run corps.

RydogV • 10 years ago

The key thing to remember with Dust 514 is that it will never actually be out of development. Yes, they had to have an "official release" but the reality is this is still very much a work-in-progress. The best part about that is CCP is very open to the input of the player base. As a player you can affect real change in the direction and specifics of the game. You won't always feel it immediately but the title will grow in the direction that players want it to...within reason.

So everyone who has logged on and said that the game was poor and then did not provide feedback really missed an opportunity. As a free-to-play title, your only investment is time. Based on the MMO/RPG elements that exist at the heart of the game, if you feel you don't HAVE time, then Dust 514 was not the right shooter for you anyway. But if you want to see this game live up to its potential then keep playing. At the very least, keep checking back, experience the enhancements and provide feedback. This game is not going anywhere...it is going to be around a LONG time, despite any performance issues in the current iteration.

DerpiestShazbot • 10 years ago

Hurry up and announce a PS4 version of Dust 514.

TaMpA_bLaCk • 10 years ago

They already did it is a 10 year game like EVE and they confirmed it will be coming to PS4. Also the game used to have 5k-9k people playing now it is 40-60k only 2 months later and growing

Nic Rowen • 10 years ago

Everything CCP does is crazy interesting, even Dust. I wonder how that Vampire: WoD MMO they were supposedly working on is shapping up.

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

They have sahred that it will be one server, have elected officals which can all for "blood hunts" to kill a player forever, and have cities that grow as player population increases.

Richard Shenton • 10 years ago

was at the fanfest were they showed us the latest video clip and its looking very nice indeed. I think theres a you tube of how the graphics is worked.

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

Dust is a failure, as it is it isn't a great game. It's ok. But it's nothing special and unless you like serious "grinding" or microtransactions then there is no point. And the majority of people who would have a vested interest in this are on the PC which can't play this. Putting on the PS3 to try and break into the console market is a stupid idea, but CCP isn't known for smart decisions in the recent years anyways so v0v. It's a game built on the requirement of longevity when it will have serious problem out the gate.

I'm off of EvE and it was a lot of fun when I first played and it was a great 2 years, the following years was all bittervet and nostalgia at work :P

SILENTSAM69 • 10 years ago

Shows just how little you know. I personally know dozens of console players who got EVE subscriptions because of DUST 514 and EVE players who got PS3's because of DUST 514.
Going after a new market of people was a lot better than just offering something different to the market they already have. CCP has let the console FPS players out of the prison they didn't know they were in. Many are still back there affraid to go through the door into the light.

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

Are you in a cult or are you just looking for one?

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

hi I'm Dao2 and I'm a sorry excuse for a human being

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

Man I feel sorry for you that you hate yourself as a human being you have to try take the name of someone better :( It's ok.... things probably won't get better for you but you seem like you're used to it.

Josiah Wilson • 10 years ago

o/ I was one of the people that decided to give EVE a try because of DUST 514 development. Both are great games, and I'm very very much looking forward to the future of DUST.

Seagull King • 10 years ago

How do we get more people interested in EVE online?! ... I know! Let's make an FPS!

Lenore LaFiore • 10 years ago

They don't need more eve players.... 8 years ago 60,000 players, 4 years ago 250,000 players, this year, 500,000 players.

That's not even counting trial accounts, why would they make dust to get more eve players....

Guest • 10 years ago

It's been out a month. Calling it a failure is... stupidly premature.

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

Their ideas were bad when they announced em and the game has looked meh since they first showed it and throughout beta, so it's got a proven history :P

Guest • 10 years ago

Their ideas were and are great. But, you've shown you aren't interested so it's going to be a pointless discussion.

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

So that means it wouldn't be pointless even if I was interested? ;p As always the only place their ideas sound interesting is on paper, when actually executed they show that they are bad :/

Guest • 10 years ago

EVE has shown their ideas are fantastic. I don't know what you're getting at. Dust is rough, right now, though. Nothing is that way forever. Unless zero people play.

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

What I'm getting at and have said pretty much the entire time is that castor eve is a lot better then current eve, and it's do due their changes :P

Lucius Exitius • 10 years ago

The last few expansions they have released have been fantastic for EvE. Though Incarna was considered a failure to some, the only reason people didn't like it was because they thought they saw a leaked document that said it was going to be pay to win, which CCP will never do. I have not played DUST514, I may end up getting it if I get a PS4, but from what I hear there are a lot of players that do like it. Why not try to grab more people? If they expand and more players come to the game, either one, that means more money, better expansions, and a better product. EvE was pretty clunky when it came out too, give them a few expansions, it literally costs you nothing to play it (Assuming you have a ps3 and internet connection.) Cry more about a free game with free content...

Dao2-SKP • 10 years ago

Incarna was a huge failure, because it sucked. The captains quarters were lame as hell, so bad as a matter of fact and so many people disliked them that they included the old regular station loading because so many people claimed. And yes the pay-to-win internal newsletter got a lot of people angry, and that's good. But when they circulate such things it's because they want to do it. They don't just go "hey let's do this for shits and giggles". If they thought they'd get away with it they would. Also the email was just so pretentious someones head shoulda rolled ;p

All the changes they do sound great on paper but in the end make the game far more boring and tedious. You talk about EvE from when it first released but honestly I don't believe that you actually played back then. It was far from clunky, as a matter of fact because of it's simpler nature it was LESS clunky. It was massively unbalanced but it was a FUN game. Dual AB/MWDS, 8 HS Armas, torps in standards, the good old days :P

EvE when it first came out was great, and a massive achievement for such a small team (which is why they used python, which is a terrible idea now that it's so big :P). And for years they did very well, however CCP has constantly chipped away at the awesomeness of the game and have made it a pretty big slog. They also know pretty much about it (pretty much none of the originals remain, TomB in china doesn't count cause he doesn't develop stuff :<).

And I'm not saying figuratively they don't know about it, literally they do not. Often when they make changes it breaks something else (i.e. autopilot not working, celestial objects able to be destroyed, gate jump crashes). And they've said it themselves, they don't know why that stuff happened when they did it.

I'm not crying about Dust, I told you I don't play EvE anymore. What kept drawing me back was the good old days like pre-shiva, but nostalgia only got me as far as the brick wall of reality. I don't hate EvE, it was a very fun 3-4 years and a boring 1-2 years. And I even managed to make a few grand when I cashed out (having bought etcs and plexs since they were available I didn't spend that much on the game).

Overally I like the game, just not now. I'd like Dust to be a good game, but I don't think the CCP of present has it in them because they pretty much in general suck. And their plan is a stupid one. I have no vested interest in it's success or not, I'm just pretty sure it won't have the longevity they want. But hey they waste plenty of money on poor decisions anyways (lawls econimist).
