I must say it has always struck me as remarkable that only 200 odd years ago Australia was a wilderness, and now it has cities with towering buildings and massive infrastructure, farms, mines, industry. In 1962 I attended a public school in outback NSW with a large Aboriginal cohort. There was a half-caste girl who was captured and carted away by welfare. 1. There was no "Aboriginal Civilisation". There were over 700 mutually unintelligible languages. Many refused asylum seekers have been in the UK for years before they're claim decided. Many who appeal, end up winning, especially women. What about the 1400 years of imperial rule under the Arabs and then the Ottoman Turks? Even the Mongols invaded and ruled that area for a while. As you say study of the koran by amateur non believers will get us nowhere. I have been told the contradictions in the koran are mainly between earlier verses which are less violent and later verses which are more violent. The Sisters responded to bogus allegations of child abuse (including child murder) by apologising to the false accusers on the basis that they must have suffered great pain in order to make them say such things. The apology was supposed to "heal the pain" but surprisingly it didn't - even after the Sisters repeated it on numerous occasions. After they paid £20,000 to the parents of a child who died decades before, the parents accused a nun of murdering the baby by burning holes in its legs with a red hot poker. Try Googling the newspaper headline:
"HOT POKER WAS USED ON LITTLE MARION.. NO CASH WILL GET HER BACK; I THINK MY BABY WAS MURDERED AT THE ORPHANAGE, SAYS PAYOUT MUM."

The present position is that the Merciful Sisters blame the Irish Bishops for their problems. Their rationale may be that the Bishops made some (albeit inadequate) efforts to defend themselves - including a couple of successful libel actions against false accusers.

They hanged her but he received a reprieve and just got 14 years transportation. He spent 2 years on a hulk in Portsmouth Harbour and then shipped out on the "Neptune" with the Second Fleet in 1789. When it arrived in Sydney over a third of the convicts had died from mistreatment and starvation.

The reason you heard that is probably because we have about 10 separate Child Abuse "Victims" groups in Ireland, almost every one of them funded by the Irish State and literally every one of them founded after our Taoiseach (Prime Minister) made a public apology to "Victims of institutional abuse" in May 1999.

Of the 10 groups, FOUR were involved in allegations of child murder against the Christian Brothers and Sisters of Mercy. The first claims related to real children who had actually died but later ones referred to periods when no child died of ANY cause. Re the latter, I coined the phrases "Murder of the Undead" and "Victimless Murders". (Google will complete the phrases for you in Ireland and hopefully in Australia as well).

The leader of a FIFTH group wrote an article in the Irish Times in March 2006 explaining that some people believed that false allegations of child abuse were being made against Irish priests but "fortunately" that did NOT constitute a problem. A few months previously, two men had been convicted of trying to blackmail a well-known Irish priest, by threatening to make a false allegation against him but perhaps this gentlemen had "forgotten". His mistake was forgiven however as, a couple of years later he was appointed executive director of Amnesty International in Ireland.

The leader of a SIXTH group declared in a public outburst on national television aimed at a Government Minister that he had been "raped, buggered and beaten" in an industrial school run by priests of the Rosminian Order. The leader of a RIVAL "Victims" group unhelpfully pointed out that he had specifically denied this and praised the Rosminians in a radio interview years before. (The two leaders were involved in a difference of opinion as to how large sums of Government money for Victims should be spent).

The leader of a SEVENTH group was involved in a furious row with his own members regarding Compensation funds the group had received from Religious Congregations. He said he had come into his office one day and found a knife stuck in his desk etc

Possibly the remaining three (or so) Victims' groups are credible OR maybe they are just small and I don't know much about them.

I explained at the time that "If someone accuses you of child abuse 30, 40 or even 50 years ago there is no way you can clear your name. However if the same person claims you killed a child and no child died at the time, then this says a great deal about your accuser's credibility."

At the time I composed the article, I had forgotten about the claim in the UK Daily Mirror (11 October 1997) that a Sister of Mercy had murdered a baby by burning holes in its legs with a red hot poker. One reason I forgot, was that the Sisters of Mercy were so "compassionate" to the accuser that they failed to sue. (The editors of The Mirror employ very high powered lawyers to protect themselves against libel actions, BUT they also realise that decadent imbeciles represent to threat.)

(B) The current executive director of Amnesty International wrote in the Irish Times on 29 March 2006 that "In the past few months a number of commentators have suggested that grave injustice is being done to priests falsely accused of child sexual abuse. Such suggestions rightly concern fair minded people, but remarkably, no evidence of any kind has been presented to suggest that false allegations are being made or that the rights of those accused are being abused.”

Just two months previously, two brothers had been convicted of trying to blackmail a priest Father Michael Kennedy by threatening to accuse him of child abuse. I believe that Fr Kennedy is a relative of THE Kennedys so it is remarkable that Mr O'Gorman had forgotten about the case (or maybe didn't consider it significant?)

On a related matter, several Irish Bishops were also accused of being paedophiles or conspiracy to defend paedophile priests but I won't bother you with THOSE gory details here. (As per normal, the claims were nonsense. ) However that is just Ireland. Perhaps accusers and their Child Abuse Victims' groups are more credible in Australia?

When I was 6 years old I was abused by a Sister of the Good Samaritan. The old bitch flogged me into unconsciousness in a beating that lasted for about 2 hours. She broke two canes on me and finished the job with a third. When my father complained, rather forcefully, to Mother Superior and showed her the 40+ "stripes' I had from the ankles up - including two across the face - she dismissed it as being necessary discipline. Later than night the Parish Priest, an Irishmen as they all were in those days nearly 60 years ago, rang my father and threatened to have him charged with assault for accosting the nuns! That was my last day in a Catholic School.

I am of the view that there were many genuine incidents of brutality and sexual abuse carried out by the Clergy in those days, and up to very recent times, who were protected by the Church and the police and judiciary. But it wasn't just the Catholics as the current Royal Commission into Child Sexual Abuse in Australia shows - they were all in it. So far they've nailed Catholic Priests and Brothers, Anglican Ministers, Salvation Army, Seventh Day Adventists, Methodists, Baptists, Jehovah Witnesses and Jewish Rabbis. It seems that any organisation that had unfettered access to children had its quota of paedophiles. From what has been revealed during the course of the RC, most of the "abuse" was homosexual in nature - especially in Catholic institutions.

Having said that, I recall that in the 80s and 90s there was an outbreak of "repressed memory" syndrome when literally thousand of people suddenly remembered being abused by their fathers who all seemed to belong to Satanic Cults. There was an epidemic across the USA, here and the western world generally - and 99.9999% of it was bullshit. Now it's called "False memory syndrome" because the ideas were planted by zealous "psychologists" who attributed all psychological disorders in later life to childhood sexual abuse. Some American enthusiasts wrote a text book on the "symptoms" of childhood sexual abuse and one of the symptoms, believe it or not, was "failure to remember sexual abuse"!
What's happening in Ireland is starting to remind me of the witch hunts of the 16th-18th Centuries and the epidemic of denunciations during the Purges in 1930's Soviet Union. All these accusations need to be looked at both sympathetically and with much scepticism because there's a very good chance they're not true. If there're large sums of money involved the credibility of the accusers must be proportionately reduced. But it's not just money that provokes denunciators: there's all that kudos and sympathy and victimhood to be milked. For some people, being a victim is the high point of their otherwise worthless life and they really get off on it. Human nature is a strange thing. I live by the theory that if you trust no-one you'll never be disappointed. I have met far more compulsive liars, frauds, swindlers and conmen than I have honest men. Indeed I can't remember ever meeting an honest man or woman.

I might add that for a few years I worked in a Government department investigating theft and fraud. It was often surprising that the people we caught stealing were very well educated, held high positions, and didn't need to steal - and often the theft was so petty. For example, one very senior Civil Servant was caught for stealing the tyres off a Government owned vehicle. For the price of a set of tyres - about $600 - he lost his job and was fined double their value plus has a life-long conviction for dishonesty.

But some people are such accomplished liars that, had I not known they were as guilty as sin and had the evidence of it, I'd have believed their denials. I got one woman for stealing a computer and a printer. When interviewed she denied it, of course, and was so terribly indignant that we'd accuse her! What she didn't know was that we had CCTV film of her loading the goods into the boot of her car. So after her swearing on the life her children that she was innocent, and quite convincingly doing so, we showed her the film.

One major investigation had to do with a Religious School. In Australia non-government schools get subsidised for every student they educate. I forget the exact amount but it was about $2,600 per student per year and the schools have to complete a census upon which the grants, capital and recurrent, are made. In any event, the Principal of the school - a very religious man who insisted on praying for us at every opportunity - had been fudging the census and claiming for 30-40 children who did not exist and pocketing the money for himself. This had been going on for some years. Again, he was a very convincing fraud and liar and, even when confronted with damning evidence in his own hand-writing, he denied having done it! He was so convincing in proclaiming his innocence that a Committee of supporters was formed to defend him against our "false accusations" and "racist" attempts to persecute an honest man. He kept up his charade until the day of his committal hearing in the Supreme Court - then he confessed, admitted it all, and pled guilty when the Prosecution offered to drop a couple of charges.

Never trust anyone, no matter how honest and convincing they seem, and you'll never be disappointed.

Regarding your last sentence, I really think that you are TOO cynical. I know some very decent human beings who - nevertheless- would not be too scrupulous about twisting the truth to get an increased Government grant or insurance payout. I probably wouldn't do either myself but that is partly because I have poor communications skills; on one occasion when I had a genuine insurance claim, I handled it so badly that I know they suspected me of fraud!

Re your first sentence I know a lady who was very badly battered in kindergarten - by a female SECULAR teacher who later was admitted to a mental hospital. My friend also said that the woman could be very nice outside class but should never have become a teacher.

This discussion could go on forever. I believe that the overwhelming majority of paedophile claims are false. In Ireland members of "Victims'" groups hardly ever raise objections when their leaders make transparently false allegations - of child murder for example. (The only thing that seems to arouse their ire, is controversies about money). I assume the reason they don't complain is that their own allegations are equally spurious - and they are making them for financial reasons.

I know less about Australia but I recall a case a few years ago in which the head of the Vincentian Order was arrested amid huge publicity, for supposedly molesting a student 20 years previously. He was released when he was able to prove that he was not on the Australian subcontinent at the time in question. (If he had been, perhaps he would have been convicted?). There was a similar case in Cornwall, Ontario (Canada) when a number of nutcases accused practically every prominent citizen of the town of belonging to a paedophile ring. NATURALLY this included the then Bishop and it's not entirely unsurprising that he had not been Bishop, nor in the diocese, at the relevant time.

While my English teacher may've gone overboard, Lord of the Flies is a superficially simple, but deeply symbolic story; for those erudite enough to recognise it. Biblical allusions abound. Simon is Jesus like, early reference to a snake-like 'beast' signifying 'evil', the initial depiction of the island as Eden-like, "Lord of the Flies" (Beelzebub), good vs evil, Ralph's self-'baptism', naming (Genesis is big on naming people), etc.

There are also allusions to evolution - the boys 'discover' fire, make tools and even form political and social systems, before - given how close after WW2 it was written - it climaxes in violent conflict, death and destruction. it seems to buy into the 'violent savage' myth, and the need for civilised society, law and order and democracy. Yet these features lead to WW2, a conflict between supposedly civilised, advanced nations, more awful than any conceivable battles between primitives.

There's the idea of an amoral instinct to survive at any cost, symbolising Freud's pseudo-scientific 'ID' concept. And political symbolism: Ralph as good liberal democrat; Jack as bad communist dictator? Golding buys into the Cold War threat of nuclear war, setting the story during an imagined one. It can read like a piece of Cold War Western propaganda, playing on, and a product of, Western fears of Communism. Golding, as an Englander, also reflected post-empire fears and paranoia: what would happen, now natives were talking over most of the British Empire? Without us Brits running things, armageddon looms!

Literary symbolism and allusions abound. It can be read as a riposte to Coral Island - three boys land on a desert island and have spiffing adventures! Golding prefers Heart Of Darkness: without liberal democracy, the boys end up like Conrad's awful, anarchic Africans, a hell on earth akin to Hobbes 'all against all' state of supposed nature. He uses a cliched sci-fi plot, and archetypical, rather than naturally individual, characterisation.

So, while Lord of the Flies maybe a literary classic, it's speculative, symbol-saturated fantasy. What if we were like this (sci-fi), more than we are like this (science).

I'm impressed Carl. That comes straight from "Study Notes" originally published by Monarch - or maybe it was Coles. Whatever, there are plenty of "cribs" on the internet these days. I am disappointed that you didn't reference your critique. That's called "plagiarism". Every book is derived to some extent and is full of symbolism if you want to go looking for it. One great example is Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath". Another is "The Red Badge of Courage" and even Dreiser's "American Tragedy".
Despite your pretence at intellectualism you've overlooked the key word and that is "atavism" when the book is considered holistically rather than dissected into its component parts. Deconstruction has its place but the sum is often greater than the parts and too much analysis can bury the main message. It's like putting your face against a TV screen and seeing nothing but dots. It's only when you stand at a distance that the picture comes in to focus.
In Australia the book was a standard text for Year 10 English - and probably still is. In my teaching days I taught that novel for 10 consecutive years.
The main idea of it is to show just how thin the veneer of civilisation really is; how easy it is to slip back into barbarism once the constraints of society are removed. If it was published today rather than 60+ years ago it would be seen as an allegory for ISIS.

I think if by atavism you mean in the social sense of reverting back to more barbarous times, Lord of the Flies does reference awakening the beast within (Jung's black beast?).

I prefer the story of the wreck of the Batavia, this was real, a Dutch East Indiaman was wrecked on an island near Australia. One psychopath went on a murderous rampage with a band of followers against the other survivors. To me this is more like daesh, which does manage to get people to perform atrocities against others not within their 'in group'. The 'outgroups' in the case of daesh, are virtually anyone who is not an islamic fundamentalist. The abolition of Free Speech is a generalisation. Specifically it is the abolition of free speech for white people and is applied to no-one else. A nigger, a curry, a slope, a sand-nigger can say whatever they like about whites - and they do quite regularly - and whites are expected to stand there and take it and actually apologise for the alleged crimes allegedly committed by Europeans in the 15th-20th Centuries against all the poor, vulnerable, peace-loving and progressive coloured folk. We're also expected to ooh and aah over primitive cultures and traditions and pretend that they are not-just-the-equal of ours but far superior. What a lot of bullshit!

Just this week in the state of Victoria, Australia, a woman has been charged under the "vilification" laws with "incitement to violence" for making a comment on a Facebook page shortly after the Paris massacres that "All mosques should be burned down at evening prayers with the doors locked". She faces a possible $10,000 fine, 9 months imprisonment or both. In 2012 Muslims rioted in Sydney and many of them, including children, were holding up signs reading "Behead all those who insult the prophet" and the riot was over the American back-yard movie "Life of Mohammed". Two of the rioters, Khaled Sharrouf and Mohammed Elomar, attacked Police but were let off with a warning. They both left Australia and turned up fighting for ISIS in Syria and famously took selfies of themselves and Sharrouf's 7 y-o son holding up the severed heads of Syrian soldiers. Sharrouf then married his 13 year-old daughter to the 35 year-old Elomar. Believe it or not, both were "Disability Pensioners" and were still collecting Australian welfare for the months they'd been fighting in Syria.

Hizb ut Tahrir regularly hold rallies in Sydney, blocking off streets, where their local leader, Uthman Badaar, calls for the violent overthrow of the Government, the abolition of democracy, and death to all who refuse to convert to Islam. Social media is full of "Australian" Muslims making violent threats against Australia and Australians and yet all that is completely ignored by the Government - while they crack down on a young woman from the out-back town of Swan Hill.

They want to make an example of her to cower the rest of the growing anti-Muslim movements in Australia (and there are many). They want to re-write history and pretend that what the neo-Marxists say about whites being the cause of all evil in the world is really true. Even the Lord Mayor of Sydney has said that the Lindt Café siege a year ago, when a Muslim fanatic held up ISIS flags and executed the homosexual manager of the place, wasn't a "terrorist" attack at all but was just the actions of a lunatic.

Then, of course, we have that Muslim in the White House; gutless little prefects like Cameron; senile lunatics like Merkel all working at break-neck speed to eradicate all European culture and traditions and demonise it for ever more. Well they can all get fucked as far as I am concerned.

So white majority countries, with white majority governments, have abolished free speech for themselves, while granting it to black minorities? There has been a cultural cringe in white countries ever since the "Civil Rights" movement in the USA 50+ years ago and the apartheid period in South Africa. These" contradictions" were ruthlessly exploited by the Soviet Union and their puppets in the west. The idea was promoted that blacks and other coloureds are exactly the same as whites and that it's unfair to rule over them with a firm hand. Subsequent developments have shown that these benighted societies are incapable of running their own affairs. Despite all the de-segregation, bussing, affirmative action, special privileges, thousands of government programs and trillions spent, the niggers of the USA are far worse off today than they were under segregation. The truth is, they can't compete on a level playing field or even one obscenely biased in their favour.
Equality? Nothing could be further from the truth. All races and all cultures are not equal. Islam appeals to the feeble-minded and inbred, the lazy and useless because its essential beliefs are about imposing a totalitarian ideology on everyone and lifting the burden of having to think for yourself about anything. It excuses all manner of crimes as commendable Jihad and Sharia. Islam and Marxism have much in common: totalitarian ideologies enforced through fear; neither will suffer any disagreement with their received dogma and doctrine; and both are the perfect recipe for eternal stasis socially, industrially and politically. That's why the collective "left" are such champions of Islam and Muslims - they know a kindred spirit when they see one.
I am moderately hopeful that the western world is on the cusp of a re-awakening and that we will once more take pride in our traditions, achievements and culture that have created the modern world - a world in which nearly all live far better than anyone else in all history. I am regularly burning offerings to Odin and Thor and asking them to ensure Victory for Trump in America, Marine le Pen in France and the overthrow of the socialist liars who have so damaged the western world with hare-brained ideas about equality. There is no such thing as equality and the white man owes the coloured man nothing at all; we owe the Muslim world nothing. Their intractable problems, self-inflicted, are not ours AND we have no obligation or responsibility to provide any of them with anything - least of all residence in white countries and life-long parasiting on the welfare state. They can all fuck off back to the shit-holes they crawled out of and solve their own problems.

They invaded and royally fucked up the lives of Africans for centuries in countries they named Rhodesia and the like; before buggering off when things got too tough for them to handle any more. They made a miserable bed, then left, to let blacks lie in it's messy remains. But even then, the Brits aided and abetted Mugabe's seizure of, and continuance in, power. As the best choice on on offer? Hey, he was a 'well educated' - six degrees - and a Catholic, so Western 'standards' and tradition would continue as a guiding influence over the 'savages', eh?

Things are and were a tad more complicated than your broad brush, black/white sketch suggests. An awareness of cultural, ancestral and experiential differences, existed in tandem and in conflict, with ideas of universal humanity, that we're one human race, that we're all the same. Integration and equality; yet distinct and multicultural. People on both sides - ethnic minorities and their white 'supporters' - were conflicted, when trying to figure out how best to move things on. Add to that, many whites who continued to oppose integration, equality of opportunity, etc; and it's hardly a surprise that "these benighted societies" are still struggling.

Discrimination and prejudice against minorities - notably African Americans, still suffering a social and/or psychological legacy of slavery - has continued, albeit in less overt ways. They've yet to achieve or be given a level playing field; but then, who has? 'Multiculturalism' and 'identity politics' have hardly helped. They emphasise difference and effective separation, under a guise of acceptance and support; which is at odds with integration and equality. It's Martin Luther King vs Malcolm X?

Islam, as a religion, is one of a kind with it's fellow religions of 'the book', Christianity and Judaism. All three are as likely as each other to find appeal amongst "feeble-minded and inbred, the lazy and useless". They can all be interpreted as having "essential beliefs... about imposing a totalitarian ideology on everyone and lifting the burden of having to think for yourself about anything." Enslave yourselves to 'God', your master, shepherd, creator, redeemer, saviour and other such bollox. They originated with men who imagined themselves their fellows superior, and sought to dictate how they should behave: "do as I command (sorry, as God commands you through me)" Men created gods to get other men to do their bidding.

As history shows, all 3 - and other - religions are ripe for political exploitation. Ready made tools to enslave men's minds and direct them towards serving political ends, under religious guise. 'Marxism' at least, lacking a God, has had to overtly glorify men as stand-in gods: Castro, Stalin, Mao, etc. But whether it was earthly or imaginary gods men were compelled to worship, ideological and religious beliefs take a back seat to those leaders self-empowering political programmes. Highly selective interpretations (along with add-ons) are a given, though, when attempts to put imaginary ideals into practice are made.

Change is the essence of existence; so the most doomed, daft and deluded recipes are those advocating "eternal stasis socially, industrially and politically."

'The left', 'Islam', 'Christianity' etc, are overgeneralised terms, to a point where their meaning is minimal at most. 'Leftists' and their ideologies are as at odds with 'Islamic' ideas as they are in sympathy; and vice versa. As much or as little as they are with almost any other ideological identifier with such amorphous scope.

Western civilisation seems to be waning, while the East wanes. We're wracked with doubt, despair, delusions, fears for the future, and divisions. We're abandoning traditions, questioning the value of achievements and dumbing down culture. We seem increasingly aware that our current rate of resource usage will fail to sustain ever greater numbers of us for much longer. But we're damned if we know WTF to do about this.

Trump and le Pen play on our fears; but all they offer are attempts to bury our heads in sand. That path will lead to conflict and world war. There's one world; we all share it. Are we gonna fuck off out of Muslim lands if they fuck off out of ours? Like fuck.

One excuse put forward for why black African countries are so poor is
that the Western powers, especially Britain and France, exploited Africa in the past to such an degree that it is still recovering.

If it really takes such a long time for nations to recover from foreign
invasions (supposing they were harmed in the first place) then we would expect Germany and Japan, both countries devastated by the Allies in the Second World War, to be rebuilding still today. Yet both countries were doing well just twenty years after the war, and today they are two of the largest economies in the world. It is true that the evil United States of America heartlessly pumped a very
considerable amount of money into these countries after the war; the
contribution towards European reconstruction was known as the Marshall Plan. But the amount donated to Africa since the 1950’s, when much of that continent achieved independence, is the equivalent of several Marshall Plans, and the countries of Africa are no more developed now than they were then. To be specific, real per capita GDP growth in Africa was low, but positive, in the 1960’s and 1970’s, shortly after independence; there was zero growth during the
1980’s, 1990’s, and early 2000’s, twenty to fifty years after independence, (possibly explained by the fact that by then the infrastructure left by the British and French was starting to fall apart); but real GDP has in recent years started to climb, attributed to the emergence of China as a major trading partner. Haiti, which is not in Africa but has a black African population, won independence from France over two hundred years ago, and has also received no
end of financial support from the USA, yet is the poorest country in the Northern hemisphere, with international aid and white relief workers currently propping it up.

In any case, even if the British and the French colonialists went to
Africa for utterly selfish reasons, that is, to make money through trade and industry, they could only achieve this by building ports and harbours, roads, bridges, farms, mines, communication networks, and other infrastructure. When the British and French left, this development remained intact, (whereas much of Germany and Japan had been destroyed by the war), and was left for the Africans to take care of. That they were unable to maintain the infrastructure speaks for the
fact that blacks are inherently incapable of sustaining a modern society, and is obviously not the fault of the former colonialists. One has only to look at pictures of modern day Hiroshima and Nagasaki, with their skyscrapers and modern infrastructure, and remember that these cities were once flattened by nuclear bombs, to see that the reason for backwardness in Africa has nothing to do with “the legacy of colonialism”, and everything to do with the contrast
between the average IQ of Japanese and Africans.
