Am I missing something here?

I read the pastebin link you shared and it seems to me that he used the potion in order to help her overcome her weakness for cute girls, that by interacting with him (which she now views as a cute girl), she can get used to talking to cute girls without getting flustered or fainting.

It was still wrong for him to slip the potion in her drink without her knowing (which he did admit and apologize for, I guess), but he didn't do it with the intention of making her fall in love with him, as the author of this article wrote.

Flanx • 8 years ago

It's just seems to be the latest trend at the moment. Bonus points if you complain about your favourite male character not being playable as female, by the way.

CaimDark Reloaded • 8 years ago

When will the industry stop oppressing me and let me be the male Lara Croft I've always wanted to be?!?

Your comment... is some sort of legend.

.... I tried :(

CaimDark Reloaded • 8 years ago

Seriously, stop. You're Thatguy. Nobody likes Thatguy.

Thatguy • 8 years ago

D:

CharlieWhistle • 8 years ago

Well don't just sit there and fucking mope like a dope! Try again!

Thatguy • 8 years ago

Yeah, it was my reaction as well.

I saw a lot of *this shit is offensive and IS need to burn into the ground because of it*. I thought it was something serious, read their support and was like *What? How is this offensive?*

Doopy15 • 8 years ago

I wish people focused on more positive aspects of the games rather than dwelling on negative ones constantly and declaring the series dead.

Seriously, I'd like an article about the gameplay and story itself. Not whining about optional features.

Thatguy • 8 years ago

Erm... no.
I'll wait for reviews about that one without story spoilers D:

But yeah, just creating one negative article after another (with misinformation like we need it or something) isn't a good thing.

CommanderZx2 • 8 years ago

This is Jed, he writes click bait shit for Destructoid. What more can you expect?

Mokka • 8 years ago

If this is true then the author should update the article.

DeMat DeMat • 8 years ago

I... Wouldn't get my hopes up on that one.

CharlieWhistle • 8 years ago

But....controversy, Luna. There needs to be it.

Gumba Masta • 8 years ago

Doesn´t change the fact that the tone of the male protag becomes awfully possesive of her torwards the end of the support convo. string.

Luna Sy • 8 years ago

Won't disagree on that. The convo ain't perfect. But I think some are making this out to be a lot worse than it is.

Whispering Willow • 8 years ago

Even reading it a bit it's a bit weird, plays to the advantage of the male character. Soloiel is basically queerbait set "right" by her male support even if the ham fisted writing of the support is well-intentioned.

She likes girls. Bisexuals can have a strong gender preference.

Whispering Willow • 8 years ago

I'm trying to not spoil everything for myself. I already spoiled Shara.

Luna Sy • 8 years ago

I do find it weird that there's no option to also romance her as a female character (is there?). You could have more or less the same storyline, minus the potion stuff.

Whispering Willow • 8 years ago

She's locked to male characters romantically going by that diagram posted a few days back. Shara and Zero are the only two that can be romance by either gender as far as I know.

Chist • 8 years ago

Fire Emblem wiki doesn't have anything about her being romanceable by ladies. Which is weird. It's like those old animes about all girls schools where at the end it turns out despite all the innuendo and sexual tension, all the girls are totes straight.

Whispering Willow • 8 years ago

Yeah, which makes it weird since Shara and Zero don't get put through this kind of teasing. Well, Shara is queerbait in another incarnation of herself, but they outright admit she was bi this time.

Whispering Willow • 8 years ago

She's locked to male characters romantically going by that diagram. Shara and Zero are the only two that can be romance by either gender.

Handy • 8 years ago

Except for the part where she’s made aware of the situation immediately after she takes the potion and it’s for training purposes because she keep getting distracted by women (as she’s basically the opposite of Lon’qu).

There's no attempt to “cure the gay” or seduce her in that state. Stop projecting.

LOGNATR • 8 years ago

It's sad that I had to scroll this far down to find a proper explanation. Thank you. Jed is, as he'd put it, a gross author.

Stormworm • 8 years ago

His source comes from Tumblr, so yeah..

Randal Randerson • 8 years ago

Subtext.

Handy • 8 years ago

Over-analyzation

Randal Randerson • 8 years ago

Anti-criticism.

Hyperspace Mallet • 8 years ago

Anti-criticism? Jed can criticize the game, but that doesn't prevent others from being allowed to criticize his critique. Everyone gets to have their say.

Even you can complain about the people complaining, but then again, I guess that would make you "anti-criticism".

Randal Randerson • 8 years ago

Whining is not criticism.

Handy • 8 years ago

Anti-bullshit-criticism-based-on-false-information maybe.

Randal Randerson • 8 years ago

False information? This isn't something that happens in the game?

Handy • 8 years ago

Nope, not as it’s described in the post anyway. It’s made out as date-rape and an attempt to change a gay character’s orientation. None of which is even remotely happening, it’s like they didn’t even read the dialogue they linked to.

Anonymous • 8 years ago

Based on reading the actual dialogue and other comments here as well, I think I'm done with Jed articles. The guy always jumps to conclusions that his "evidence" doesn't support, or he's posting something just to bait people. Nothing I've read from this man contains anything of value. I'm all for starting discussion about sensitive topics, but not the way this guy goes about it. Time for me to stay away.

DeMat DeMat • 8 years ago

I'm afraid this is all you'll get from Jed, a guy who describes himself saying "I also try to be as politically correct as possible, while also standing up for what is right and what I believe in."

Chirijaraiden • 8 years ago

I'm getting tired of it too.
Does D-toid have a system in place to remove bad authors/posters if the community/population demand it enough?

Edit: Also, I see the comment section on the whole "Triforce Heroes" article a few days back was closed, is that Jed's doing as well?

ChillyBilly • 8 years ago

Whooooaaa.....I remember being part of staff emails regarding the closure of comments and the unanimous decision was to NEVER close comments in order to not stifle conversation. Ever.

Interesting.

Chirijaraiden • 8 years ago

Well, it was closed, you can check for yourself:

ChillyBilly • 8 years ago

Yea, I saw. Sad. Really sad.

Chirijaraiden • 8 years ago

I can only wonder what the fuck's going on with D-toid.
I hope I don't have to end up finding another website.

ChillyBilly • 8 years ago

Same. I've been here since '07 and I'm getting pretty close to just leaving altogether.

Chirijaraiden • 8 years ago

I can't remember when I got here, but it wasn't that long ago, probably like '12 or '11, but yeah, I'm getting super close to leaving as well. One of the big reasons are articles like these, which means that I have issues with certain authors on this site. Jed and Holmes being the ones I have the most problem with. Then there's also the fact some of the more interesting authors have up and left already.

I would have also added "some of the userbase", but most of the 'problematic' users have already disappeared/dropped their acts, so that isn't so much a problem anymore.

Besides that, I just don't know where else there is to go, honestly, I've not really bothered looking for other websites to try going to, not even sure where or how to start.

Gajknight • 8 years ago

I'll just add onto this leaving train.

The quality is fucking appalling recently. I'd say I have no idea why but it's pretty obvious.

I didn't even know that thread was closed. For shame. Just...horrendous.

Chirijaraiden • 8 years ago

Tmai on the quality bit.
Most articles nowadays are either 5 sentence opinions, 5 sentence "the sky is blue" articles, or ... articles like this.

Gajknight • 8 years ago

Tbh, I think Chris, Jordan, Brett, Darren, etc write great articles. They have personality and respect but mostly, just have fun. I don't mind if they're 5 sentences as long as they are cool about it and make me chuckle.

But shit like this...poorly researched lies and shit stirring and plain garbage...they make the entire site look bad.

The minute Holmes became editor in chief, this site took a nosedive off a cliff. I wish he's leave.

Straight up, I don't even care anymore.
