Stay tuned for the inevitable "GENUINE Game of the Year Edition"

Borderlands 2 Game of the Year: Game of the Year Edition

EdgyDude • 10 years ago

More like Game Of Two Years, amirite?

Ein on Shrooms • 10 years ago

Yuarite!

Kevin VG • 10 years ago

Oh yeah, stay tuned for many many more years. Many.

AtomicBanana • 10 years ago

Game of the Decade. Not actually, but that's what it will be called.

Berserkerscientist • 10 years ago

This is definitely garbage. I just bought it and played it through. Half the game is listening to grandma blather about nonsense. I wouldn't mind if it was interesting, but it is crap. Some screenplay she wrote. And if you move slightly away, you fail. This mission is extremely difficult because it is so boring. This is what passes for DLC now? DO NOT BUY!

Patrick Roseberry • 10 years ago

Actually, it'll probably be called:

Borderlands 2
The "OMG-WE'VE-CREATED-SO-MUCH-F@#&ING-CONTENT-WE-COULDN'T-PUT ALL-OF-THIS-S$@&-IN-ONE-EDITION" Edition

Sortascary • 10 years ago

I read that in Torgue's voice

Patrick Roseberry • 10 years ago

That's what I was going for. :)

Dr Mel • 10 years ago

It's like a little kid who doesn't know when it's time to stop repeating that joke everyone laughed at once. Now it's been done to death and everyone one hates that joke.

Gearbox, ask Sega for some more money and get to work on Borderlands 3. I'll see you then.

FFP2 • 10 years ago

Holy shit they are milking this game so much.

lawrencesuperhero • 10 years ago

How is it milking to give fans more of what they want no one is forcing anyone to buy it. And yes games are made as a business and nothing more they don't owe anyone anything for free. People need to get over this give me give me attitude and come to see these guys don't work for free.

Jason E Perkins • 10 years ago

Methinks you don't know what "milking it" means.

lawrencesuperhero • 10 years ago

I know what milking it means and I think its a stupid thing to say, also its I think not methinks which is not a word.

Baines • 10 years ago

It's Gearbox, and Borderlands was their big success. They are going to keep milking it as long as people keep buying it, and Borderlands 3 will be milked even harder for that reason.

Kaboni • 10 years ago

I have the money so I don't care. Plus, most of their DLC is good.

daVB • 10 years ago

They gotta balance the "Aliens: colonial marines" with something, or they will be out of money

KyleGamgee • 10 years ago

I wasn't going to get this one. I love Halloween, so I got the last DLC because of the visuals. But now, after reading that so much emphasis is on the writing (which I LOVE in BL2), I'm going to have to.

dannaz • 10 years ago

man they really smash out the DLC on this game

Bashtarle • 10 years ago

Yeah I just wish more of it had been good or that I had skipped the season pass. Oh well lesson learned :D

lawrencesuperhero • 10 years ago

Season pass was more then worth the money and these packs are only $3 I for one am more then happy to get more to such a great game.

Retrofraction • 10 years ago

Is it me or are they getting quite desperate to make new Borderlands 2 content?

coopdegra • 10 years ago

Wait, so the game forces you to listen to Burch's bullshit soapbox and fails you if you don't? That's it, I'm done, I'm done with borderlands and gearbox, I really liked the first one, but if they continue to let Burch ruin it, man i just don't know.

Conrad Constantine • 10 years ago

Honestly, it's just his grandmother talking about rambling stories for 15 minutes, and telling you embarassing stories about Torgue's childhood. Like how grandmothers do at Thanksgiving - the story about Torque's first exploding gun is pretty neat though.

coopdegra • 10 years ago

See that's sounds completely different from what I thought from reading the review. Thanks, It doesn't sound like the worst thing then, I didn't enjoy the first torgue dlc, so i am probably not going to get this, but good to know it's not like just a video game version of Anthony's twitter account.

Yoshiii • 10 years ago

A little bit of an over-reaction don't you think? You act as if people havn't injected games, movies, books, music, visual art, with their beliefs for many-a-years now

coopdegra • 10 years ago

No yeah I totally agree, it's not a new thing, but it doesn't sound like it's implemented well, it's also diablo with guns, not Gone Home. The closest analogy I can make is when Brian in family guy went from a voice of reason to a preachy mouthpiece of Seth macfarlene. I don't think I'm overreacting, because for me the series went from a paper thin story line where you could fill in a lot of the blanks, to this ham fisted story with obnoxious characters like handsome jack and tiny tina. More story is fine, but not if it's just bad reddit jokes and characters just constantly talking in your ear about nonsense.

CalamityKait • 10 years ago

I'm assuming that the trickle of bite-sized DLC that's coming out now is like Assasin's Creed Brotherhood and Revelations - something to keep the fans interested while they work on the next core game in the franchise.

Bloody Harvest didn't do much for me. A single medium-sized map, well-themed, but with little to do there. Two short missions and you're done. It took me half an hour with my siren and I had no desire to go back with my commando or mechromancer, so no replay value for me.

In comparison to the campaign DLC, Bloody Harvest was a poor value. One third the price, nowhere near a third the content. This one sounds like it was better done, but I think I'll stick with the roughly seventy hours of gameplay in the core game and campaign DLCs and just watch a video of grandma's stories.

I happen to like how Anthony Burch integrates commentary into the game world with a sense of humor about it. Good science fiction is generally a commentary on contemporary society anyway.

But since I can get that for free by watching a video, I think I'll pass on this one.

BoomingEchoes • 10 years ago

When is the Afternoon Special DLC coming?

I want Borderlands to teach me the dangers of drug abuse and promiscuous relationships that end in domestic violence.

Adrian Smith • 10 years ago

I'm almost finished with the story. Which DLC is actually worth getting

Shane Saiyan • 10 years ago

Assault on Dragon Keep is an absolute must.

Opinions differ on the rest. I personally got enough enjoyment out of all of them to feel justified in my Season Pass purchase.

Darren Nakamura • 10 years ago

Agreed. If you get just one, then Assault on Dragon Keep is absolutely the one to get. If you want more, just go with the Season Pass. Though some of the "main four" DLCs are weaker than others, they still provide a good amount of entertainment for the money.

For the Headhunter stuff, I'd recommend skipping Bloody Harvest and getting this one.

failtuna • 10 years ago

The only one that let me down Big Game Hunt, the other three were really good. Personally, I liked Pirate's Booty the most, but that is most likely because it came out just as I was getting bored with grinding the campaign, I think it builds on the Borderland's universe quite well out of all of the DLC.

Occams • 10 years ago

I enjoy these little bite-sized quests and DLC stuff for Borderlands 2. Its a chance to jump back in the game and the bosses are pretty fun. In my dream of dreams, the Tiny Tina DLC was a full game.

KyleGamgee • 10 years ago

Kinda like The Secret Armory of General Knoxx. I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for for the 4th DLC.

Rafael Arbulu • 10 years ago

Would I be the target of a huge shitstorm if I told you I have never, ever tried Borderlands 1 or 2?

*ducks behind cover while thoughtfully waiting for a response*

CelicaCrazed • 10 years ago

No, you're not forced to play anything you don't want.

Darren Nakamura • 10 years ago

No, but if you are interested in FPS/RPG hybrids, then you might want to consider trying the series out.

Slowking • 10 years ago

My girlfriend and I loved Borderlands 1 but we can not stand Borderlands 2 in anyway shape or form.

VitaminShoe • 10 years ago

Really why is that? I could see fatigue of just being more of the same. Or if it got too over the top silly for you

lawrencesuperhero • 10 years ago

No but your missing 2 of the best games ever made

VitaminShoe • 10 years ago

Nope that's just a thing. We don't got time for it all. And borderlands is subjuctive and repetitive unless you got a good co-op group

Altair • 10 years ago

The first head hunter pack, Bloody harvest, was very good. There were funny easter eggs, a secret boss, the pumpkin boss was very fun and challenging.
This new head hunter pack, Wattle Gobbler, is EXTREMELY POOR compared to its 3$ predecessor.
-There are no fun easter eggs (Bloody Harvest had many of them)
-The boss can be easily 1shotted and it's weaker than the trash mobs around it. (BH boss was challenging and fun)
-The enemies do not respawn. After finishing the dlc once, it will stay empty, and only the turkey boss and its minions will respawn. 0 replayability. (BH enemies respawned)
-There is no secret boss, or anything. (there was a secret boss and a miniboss in BH)
-Torgue used to be fun, but in this DLC I never had a good laugh. He was pathetic.
-The dialogues could have been more fun and the grandma mission could have had more depth and interaction. As it is, it's boring, and a complete waste of time.
3.5/10

lawrencesuperhero • 10 years ago

To low a score Id give it a 8.5 so much goofy fun here.

Kaleido-Ruby • 10 years ago

I'm gonna assume it scored that high because of Torgue alone.

VitaminShoe • 10 years ago

I do commend them for keeping those who are still sticking with this game constant fresh content.

But for those who know, where does this DLC model stand value wise compared to subscription based models. ( I've never really dabbled in either)

Bashtarle • 10 years ago

Well the first and only boon to DLC that I can think of over subscription is that if you don't "need" to pay beyond the base game. So if you don't buy DLC your game doesn't stop working. The same can not be said about subscriptions. With those if you ever stop paying you lose access to the game entirely.

However DLC is still hit and miss. A lot of time it feels like DLC is content that should have been in the game but was stripped out to be sold al la carte. As long as the base game feels like a complete game without the DLC its not a bad deal, even if I'm still not terribly fond of it.

VitaminShoe • 10 years ago

I had not thaught of the fact that the core game is over with you stopping subscription. That's alien as hell to me and sounds terribl.

VitaminShoe • 10 years ago

Heh dislikes for asking an Ernest question.
