I'm still on a grandfathered unlimited plan with Verizon, so I use my hotspot on my phone. Granted, the most I've ever used in a month is 7GB. I've tried to abuse it, but I'm not away from wifi enough. :-)
I think we've talked before about using a tablet such as an iPad, which I used to do with my iPad 3. Looks like you may be able to get 6GB for $50 with an iPad.
In reality, there are no good options. :-)
A few years ago, I had the mobile hotspot but if was through C-spire for $60 a month with 2.5 GB of data. Now I do not use a mobile hotspot but if I were to need it, I would get Verizon. There are ways around these cellular providers high data fees, although most people know nothing about it.
