I think this is totally a non - issue. But we must appreciate diversity. That is how Ugandans show their respect. For Kenyans, you have to earn the respect to be respected. You could be an old rapist. Why expect to be respected just by virtue of age? And it has nothing much to do with a handshake.

Paula • 8 years ago

This is REALLY a non issue. We do respect that Ugandans have a culture of bowing etal but that is NOT OURS(Kenyans). He was well dressed ,shook his hand firmly and gave eye contact including smiling- what more do people expect???In any case his dad is also the president (same as his granddad was) so he has learnt all the etiquette needed when greeting dignitaries!

invictus2022 • 8 years ago

Maybe, as a white guy i cant say much, though due to my experience with african people, i can understand they way the Ugandans are catching feelings on this non-issue. On the other hand .........lets be realistic ...........does the respected Mr Museveni or his respected wife looks in any way insulted by not being shown the respect as claimed ? No ......... they both seem to be ok and maybe they are only thinking " when this young man grows older, he may understand more "

Francis Kibugi Wanjohi • 8 years ago

As far as i am concerned, bowing is not a sign of respect, its a sign of fear! That is why we bow before God because its a combination of respect and fear! Its wrong to accuse this young man of disrespect. Even UK dint bow for President Obama, yet he has great respect for him

Nandongi • 8 years ago

This has been and will be Uganda's sign of respect.

spanner • 8 years ago

It has never been Kenyas, we bow to God only.

Nandongi • 8 years ago

I am Kenyan and I do it.

Mkono baridi • 8 years ago

i dont think he should bow but i hope this muhoho is not looking to be a future president coz i just have but had enough of this presidency being revolved on names that we've heard for years and years .

Mazzdark • 8 years ago

Different folks different strokes...these are two countries with different cultures...and Kenyans DON'T bow to no one....

Henry • 8 years ago

...I see no problem with Muhoho. We should differentiate between fear and respect, and Ugandan and Kenyan culture respectively. Kenyans are taught etiquette in different ways, for example when greeting someone to look straight in the eye, stand upright and always smile, at least that's what my parents taught me.....Ugandans however are trained to bend/kneel/bow et al...all those are forms of respect not fear...Muhoho was just plain respectful in a Kenyan way, his upbringing is different so cut him some slack, he did pretty well with the hand shake....

Felly Ingerty Induswe • 8 years ago

how dare these Ugandan folks demand respect, its only earned in different ways due to diversities in cultures..

Florence Naluyimba M • 8 years ago

Stop blaming the whole country folk just because a few individuals stated that...trust me we have different cultures...some of us hug, shake hands and kneel.
That young man did okay by me and most like minded people and trust me we are quiet a number!

Mchoraji • 8 years ago

He is Kenyan not Ugandan so Ugandan mannerisms don't apply. Neither have I heard rais Museveni complain. Muhoho greeted mzee in a previous trip too

Uche o • 8 years ago

Africans, we are concerned about a stupid handshake instead of holding these crooks (AFRICAN POLITICIANS ) accountable and ergo lift Africa up.

wamalwa luc • 8 years ago

Bowing or not bowing shouldn't be an issue here. Ugandans would have been following the objectives of the Presidents' meeting.. #JustToBeLogic enough....

msemakweli • 8 years ago

Shame on you Kenyans pretending to be dot com! Where are our African traditions? As far as I know Africans (in fact all humans except whites) show some respect whenever they meet an elder and thats that!

Ben Kiriama • 8 years ago

We Kenyans kneel down before God not before human beings, kudos muhoho.

daniel mule • 8 years ago

Kenya is a free country unlike Uganda n in Kenya we do our things in digital manner including shaking hands ..

ReenLizzy • 8 years ago

they should be glad hukugota na kumpea bro hug like his peers here

Davy • 8 years ago

The folks in charge of protocol are the ones who should be taking the heat. Not Muhoho due to ignorance. Muhoho and the entourage always need to be briefed. This can be a deal breaker in places like China

sabirehab • 8 years ago

I am from Nigeria and have been to many African countries. Africa is one with same culture when it comes to respect for elderly people. you dont greet an elderly person so casually even if he's not a president of a country, this young man ought to have shook Museveni's hand with his both hands as show of respect for an elder. I dont support kneeling down down. you can only knee before God almighty.

wakariro • 8 years ago

Bruv, the boy's father is the president of kenya so was his grandfather - what's the big deal to him?

Josefin • 8 years ago

Kenyans only kneels to God.

MicelAngello • 8 years ago

I never kneel. I stand before God.

Edel • 8 years ago

Kneel down my foot. A hand shake is enough and you need to understand that we all belong to different cultures, so if those condemning him need to know that we are not slaves of other peoples' cultures in as much as we may respect them, we are not obliged to follow them.

MicelAngello • 8 years ago

All Bantus came from Uganda, so I guess we lost some values along the way, maybe due to mosquito bites while migrating.

Kaliech • 8 years ago

"All Bantus"?

wagwaan • 8 years ago

But him being 'Muhoho' suggests that the last name betrayed him long time ago. This group of people are known not to have any 'culture' because they are a community domineered by women. Right from the days of Wangu wa Makeri. so treat this young man's behavior not as an isolated issue

Vali Jamal, PhD • 8 years ago

I think he was disrespectful. Bowing doesn't mean falling to the ground or even curtseying - just a bow of the head and two hands extended. President looks casual himself and the parents are beaming.

hakim dada • 8 years ago

COZ EVEN KENYATTA UHURU WAS A BOY WEN HE FIRST MET MUSEVENI ,I THINK EVEN THAT BOYS KID WILL BE PRESIDENT WHEN MUSEVENI IS STILL PRESIDENT.

Simba Richards • 8 years ago

Hahahahaaa, I like this one.

hakim dada • 8 years ago

WHY KNEEL DOWN WHEN HE IS HIS EQUAL COZ BY THE TIME HE WILL BE PRESIDENT MUSEVENI WILL STILL BE PRESIDENT JST 15 YRS FROM NOW
