For starters, this ad is a perfect way to display just how
much sugar we put in our bodies every day for soda drinkers. This is why I personally
have been trying to cut back on soda and drink more water. When compared,
obviously water has many more benefits to sugary drinks which need to be put on
display more for people to see. Soda and
any other sugars drinks, which include simple fruit juices, need to be revealed
for what they truly offer the public. Sugar has been proven to act like drugs
such as cocaine which has such a negative effect on everyone that consumes it,
especially growing children who should be learning to stay away from sugar. Having
children drink this constantly so young is a terrible influence and shows the negligence
of many people today. It is really shocking that the people that are informed
about how bad these drinks are for us yet they still drink them. It is
understandable to drink soda every once in a while, but every day is just
simply bad. The sugar companies today trying to feed us all of these incredibly
bad foods are acting just like the cigarette companies did. They need to stop
worrying money in their own pockets, and take care of the people they are
serving. Try to come up with alternatives in some way to make the drinks a
little healthier. A change must occur now or our obesity percentage will
continue to grow.

I loved the emotional appeal of this ad. At first I was just intrigued to see what the city was going to look like. As the clip went on it actually stated to make me feel nauseous. They did a good job demonstrating exactly how much sugar we are consuming, by can and by year. Showing rather then telling in this case was very powerful. Many people know they eat unhealthy, but they try not to think about it.
Showing exactly what is going into our bodies is scary. And sadly sugar is not
even the worst ingredient in soda. By the end of the ad, it was refreshing to
only see water, and almost made me thirsty like I had actually eaten all that
sugar. What was also a cool and very visual appeal was having the city be in the shape of a body at the end. I thought it was an interesting and unexpected way to continue with their visual message. I think the fact that the ad focused only on sugar was also good. If they went on to explain other drinks or other things that are in soda we might have lost the point of the message of “drink water”. The simple voice narrative evokes a more meaningful response at least in my opinion. No one likes being told they eat badly or that they should change their behavior. So hearing a voice without a body to be mad for telling us things we don’t want to hear probably added to the responsiveness of the viewer.
