This just in -- The UK shoe has finally dropped, and it's a size four not a fourteen.

BBCNews, Feb 10
UK to spend £2.5bn on [14] F-35 fighters
The UK is about to commit to the F-35 fighter project, a US-led effort to produce 3,000 aircraft which is set to cost more than £600bn globally. The initial UK order for 14 F-35Bs will, with support costs added, cost about £2.5bn, Newsnight has learned.//

UK has been "about to commit" for eight months and now--

DailyMail, Oct 28
Britain says agrees to order four F-35 stealth fighter jets
(Reuters) - Britain has reached an agreement in principle to order four more of Lockheed Martin's F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jets, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.
The contract, part of a plan to purchase 14 of the stealth fighters over the next five years, will be placed within the coming weeks, the ministry said. The aircraft are due to be delivered from mid-2016.

Comment: UK is a JSF partner and as such it doesn't "contract" for the procurement of useless F-35 prototypes, as a non-partner would, rather it participates in LRIPs and Navy does the contracting. But we'll take the hyperbole as it comes, indicating a UK pull-back in this case, and wait for something to happen "within the coming weeks."

Thanks for the good catch Johnno. So the UK has not actually inked a deal to buy the size fours, it is about to commit, ..placed within the coming weeks...I see a big team of govt lawyers in the background here, using those weeks to phrase the commitment so its an ironclad prenup.

Italy is in deep financial trouble and has a strong F-35 opposition movement. recent news:
Last month: House approves motion to halve F-35 budget
Today:France, Italy trim 2015 budgets to win EU approval

Just read an article yesterday as how Italy is really on the verge of a massive default or massive economic recession....yeah, sure, they will buy some really expensive and useless new toy.....

F-35C is slated to execute its first arrested landing on a carrier deck on the USS Nimitz on Nov. 3

Can't wait to see what happens in Nov!

Also, these new realized price "drops" on LRIP-8 are without engine installed, Amy Butler confirmed it again on AW website blog....

And one can only further expect LRIP 9, 10, 11 and 12 to be cut down from current pre-conceived advertised procurement unit numbers... There's simply no evidence as of today that Congress will increase combat aviation procurement budgets as substantially as will be required (even more than currently estimated), to procure the currently advertised units on the 'order books'.

That's the critical piece of the puzzle the pre-conceived F-35 proponent camp has always failed to properly calculate... i.e., the inability to authorize the extreme unrealistic and unfortunately flat out unaffordable pre-conceived budgets required to procure anywhere near the high level of numbers of annual units in mid-to-late LRIP, or early FRP FY buys. God speed.
