Judging by the number of posts on this website supporting all versions of boondoggles, it is not surprising they found Mainers willing to buy into this risk. Another scam.

Why on Earth does the PUC allow this FRAUD?

Earthling3 • 9 years ago

It's not fraud if they tell you about the possibilities before you sign up. See Mythoughts' post above.

I looked into it once , it was rigged from the get go, all stacked up with fees for leaving , for changing anything, all to save $0.005 per klwh at 700 kWh per month that's $3.50 a month for 6months and if I quit they wanted $24.00 plus a monthly charge for a additional 6 months if I don't renew -- so you have signed up for 12months really

Sounds like a bad cell phone/cable TV plan(scheme), to me.

If there was ever a reason for a State Power Authority to come into being, this one's the case. Its also a major reason why the PUC needs to get off it's collective 'brain's' and get Maine hydroelectric back, and once and for all tell LePage that his idea of Maine going TOTALLY HYDRO QUEBEC, is DOA, and not going to be bothered to be looked at again, EVER !

If you want to see high rates then bring on a state power authority. Anything the government runs is more expensive due to overemployment and corruption. There is no fraud in this situation. Everyone who fell for this was aware that the contracts were fixed for only 6 months and then would fluxuate. It is just the greed of people looking to save a little bit of money in the short term and then whining that it wasn't what they expected in the long term. Serves them right. They should have read the fine print.

"Overemployment and corruption". Spoken like a true anarchist.

Allow me to re-post my previous comments on this story...

I haven't heard about these variable rate plans, sneaky stuff. But, if you plan on shopping around for an electricity provider, you'd better plan on paying close attention to the terms.

When we could first chose I switched to Electricity Maine as they were lower than the standard offer. They said they'd always be lower, but they lied. So, I switched to Fairpoint for a great deal of 6.5 cents, but it was only a 6 month contract. So, when that ended they wanted me to sign up for another 6 months at nearly twice what I was paying. They even offered my $30 to stay. Uh, no.

So, now I'm back on the standard offer, but will shop around if a better deal comes along.
