Borderlands 2 has taught me two things:
1.) The game is all about strategy and tactics early on, but that's eventually discarded in favor of players and enemies going nuts as they one-shot each other.
2.) No game is ever so compelling that you can't afford to wait for the Game of the Year edition.

pedrovay2003 • 9 years ago

And yet, the Game of the Year Edition is missing half the DLC.

CK20XX • 9 years ago

It's especially maddening since I'm usually a whole console generation behind everyone else, and that's actually worked out well because once a console finishes its run, I can look over everything available on it and get a new system and all its best games for much more reasonable prices. But I shouldn't have to be similarly discerning with some PC games as well.

BetterCallSaul • 9 years ago

So, you're just disovering PS3/360?

EdgyDude • 9 years ago

To be fair it's a helluva strategy in terms of getting cheap games, better hardware and avoiding duds, but you do need an epic shiton of patience and self control to pull it off.

Personally? 2 or 3 years behind is what I usually do and I'm satisfied with my results.

Seth Wooten • 9 years ago

steam sales are also the bee's knees, if PC is your thing. Dat 5$ GOTY tho

Elmer Llana • 9 years ago

I bought my ps3 on 2012. Got alot of cheap ass games and I'm now buried in my own backlog. Getting a shit ton of patience is not really viable when it comes to gaming. Just a moderate amount is enuf lol.

CK20XX • 9 years ago

Kinda. I follow gaming news regularly, but not only do I not have a lot of money in the first place, but there are so many games across all the consoles that have already come and gone that I'm not exactly hurting for stuff to play, and my backlog on Steam is bad enough as-is.

BetterCallSaul • 9 years ago

Personally, I like to play multiplayer or online co-op with some friends, so it wouldn't make sense to get in on the act at the end of a console's life cycle, because everybody else will have moved on...

But yeah, I get it. After I bought Wii/360/PS3 all at launch to be able to play every exclusive that interests me, I have yet to buy a XBone, PS4 or even WiiU. And to be honest, I've become more of a Sony guy, so I'm content with one console at this point. And buying consoles at launch is dumb anyway.

ajaxender • 9 years ago

As long as the games on steam, I can't see it being a big deal, since generally when a game is heavily discounted, so is its DLC (unless its very new). So, you wait and buy the GOTY editions, then wait a while longer to pick up the DLC whenever it too is cheap.
Or, if the game no longer holds your interest, you don't even bother, which can be a win for your wallet and even time, instead of forcing yourself through content you don't enjoy just because it came with the game and you feel that you 'need' to get through it.

ajaxender • 9 years ago

We need to get over that. GOTY is now just a convenient title for 'game + whatever additional content exists thus far'. Some developers will choose to produce DLC for longer periods of time instead of moving on, as long as its an effective revenue stream (or as long as they can milk it, as the pessimistic will say - as long as the content is worth paying for, I don't care).

Obviously, I understand the frustration at buying something and having a cheaper or better version come out later, but ultimately if you're happy with what you got when you got it, it shouldn't be a big deal. Its then up to you if its worth buying whatever you've missed out on.

Ahr Ech • 9 years ago

More like an 8th. The headhunter packs don't come close to the scope of the other expansions.

R. Hoffmann • 9 years ago

Not really.

Evel all headhunter packs together are not as long as one of the four big dlc's from 2012/2013

-Not knowing they will release it on the PS4 and XBone

Fuzunga • 9 years ago

I picked all of these up during the recent XBLA sale and got all but this one for a dollar. More than worth it for that price. Definitely worth it for $3. They have the most interesting and unique locations in the game to me. It's a shame they're not longer, but that's expected for the price. Love how they started including character dialog in the last two. I'll never beat the bosses from those two alone, though.

Darren Nakamura • 9 years ago

The boss fight in Wedding Day Massacre is doable solo. This one, I got him down to about half health before I was out of ammo. No ammo, no kill revives. Then he flung me off the platform.

Then I bumped down to True Vault Hunter Mode and killed him in about ten seconds.

Mike • 9 years ago

Anyone have any MILK for my cookies? Get it, milking? I refuse to buy the last to "head hunter packs" I supported the game up until that point. I was so tired of playing Borderlands 2 and then we get yet another new Borderlands coming thats actually Borderlands 2 in new paint. I hated alot of things from BL2, raid bosses, 3 guns that actually worked...Actually most loot in BL2 is worthless. So yeah I'm not pumped for the new game since it will inherit all of its issues.

CrazyPrince • 9 years ago

dude, if you think only 3 guns worked then well your build sucked.

Heracles the Whoresbane • 9 years ago

FIRST!! I'm gonna upvote my own comment because I'm so Heracles.

R. Hoffmann • 9 years ago

What the fuck..upvoting oneself is now visible to others?

Weird.

R. Hoffmann • 9 years ago

Hmm. I don't get the 6/10 score really.

I read the review and it sounds like this dlc is a fun and a not too short piece for that price with quite a lot of interesting stuff for fans of the series.

If it is that good, why just a 6/10 and not a 7 or 8?

Darren Nakamura • 9 years ago

It's just as short as the other Headhunter packs. One medium sized map, two missions, and about 30-60 minutes worth of playing.

As for why a 6/10, because I consider it above average, but far from being a necessity. Borderlands fans will like it fine, but it doesn't really go above and beyond.

Kaleido-Ruby • 9 years ago

After DLC 3 pulled that exact same stunt I stopped playing BL2. If it was going to be some sort of expansion I expected something more than a 30 minute romp.

Honestly, this last batch with the DLC has made me second guess buying any new ones in the series because of that fact. I don't think I'll be buying Pre-Sequel day 1, regardless of how good it might be since we all know how GotY will be and in this case you know they'll have a GotY 2 or something or some Ultimate Vault BS pack to tie it all together which will make even the GotY buyers feel bad for getting cheated.

Mike • 9 years ago

Agreed, Borderlands is one of my favorite franchises, until as of late. I really hated parts of BL2 endgame. I fear that crap for the new game.

Kaleido-Ruby • 9 years ago

Well, finding out that the majority of the DLC was outsourced kind of kicked that one in the rear.

But the other half of the equation is that the DLC this go round was poorly done. Yes, the one before wasn't perfect but it was far better done in that capacity...and if you want to talk success with Crawmerax, people need to remember the epic that was the original DLC from BL1, General Knoxx.

Ahr Ech • 9 years ago

General Knoxx has got nothing in Assault on Dragonkeep as far as I'm concerned. And even the worst BL2 dlc is still better than Claptrap's Robot Revolution from BL1.

CrazyPrince • 9 years ago

You know why should the GOTY buyers feel cheated, cause i don't.

Kaleido-Ruby • 9 years ago

Because, as I mentioned, they'll likely release another all-encompassing pack in the future for some Steam sale to coincide with it.

CrazyPrince • 9 years ago

So, we still got a shitload of extra content at a cheaper price, being upset that we didnt get something even larger seems weird to me.

ajaxender • 9 years ago

You get it. You pay for the content available for you at the time. I understand not wanting to pay for more if you didnt enjoy what you got in the first place, but I don't understand being annoyed that you bought something you think you'll enjoy and then they make even more of it. Annoyed that you don't enjoy the additional content as much, perhaps, but not that it exists at all.

Mike • 9 years ago

Extra content or just recycled enemies and maps for skins that are pretty nasty and should have been given to us. IF they added a new gun with each pack then maybe it would be worth the 2.99. Otherwise GBX made me bitter with the crap they call content.

CrazyPrince • 9 years ago

They did add new weapons serphah and pearl weapons.

crackedbat • 9 years ago
Mike • 9 years ago

I would have gave it a 3.0 These packs are shit that GBX throws together to rob us some more. I mean there ZERO originality from BL2, its like they said, "lets pick this bad guy from dlc 1 and then this guy from dlc 2 and some of these and these, DONE! These packs are shit, I wouldnt bitch if they were free. Free to the players that purchased all the rest of the dlc such as myself.

Fwankenstein • 9 years ago

Sweet fuck Gearbox just let this game rest in peace! As a matter of fact ya dragged this out so long, just let the series rest in peace now. I'm sick of it!

tillman211 • 9 years ago

Dude, you really need an editor to look over your stuff before you publish it. "one of the longest tails"? "come to and end"?

Darren Nakamura • 9 years ago

I actually do have an editor; he missed the "and" there. Thanks for pointing it out.

As for "tails," yes that is exactly what I meant. To have a long tail in this context is to continue to be relevant long after initial release. The game released as a big chunk in 2012, and its "tail" consisted of the enormous amount of DLC that released over the following year and a half.

A Modern Drunkard • 9 years ago

Sounds like you need a new editor.

metroid_fetish • 9 years ago

Correction - This is the fourth from last piece of DLC for Borderlands 2.

BobPalindrome • 9 years ago

Wait, so it's a giant enemy...lobster?

Dr Mel • 9 years ago

I'm so burnt out on this game I don't even want the next full release that they announced. I'll skip an entry, gladly.

vinegargamer • 9 years ago

I played this (main game) PC then got on PS+ to see what it looked like on PS3. Made my eyes bleed. (Elite).
