You should study up a bit on US history. Lincoln founded the Republican party and there were about 1500 blacks in state and federal offices, including senators, representatives and governors. However, the unrepentant ex-civil war veterans who were mostly Democrats, decided to get things back 'under control' and they founded the KKK. After they had driven the backs back into the shadows of society, they enacted the Jim Crow laws to keep them there. The Republicans had nothing to do with it.

Democrats were the small government conservatives at that time. Republicans, from Lincoln on, spent their time growing the size, scope, and power of the federal government until FDR caused the parties to change. Republicans were the big government party. If you were alive at that time you would probably be in whatever party is opposite to your current one.

Not voting for the president does not make one a racist. Having legitimate concerns about this president does not make one a racist. Voting for someone because he is (half) black is at best irresponsible and at worst racist. Remember--content of their character (and in the case of voting for president, his or her background, experience, positions, etc) not the color of their skin.

Some people just can't fathom how anyone who isn't wealthy can be stupid enough to believe the Koch owned, corporate Republican party is better for this country. Conservatism is the racist party. The mid 1800's Democrats were conservative. The 1960's "Southern Democrats" were conservative and most of them eventually converted to the Republican party.
